    About Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices via one simple port and a cable that carries both DisplayPort and PCI Express data. And it’s standard on every Mac.

PCI Express is the technology that links all the high-performance components in a Mac. And it’s built into Thunderbolt, which means you can get PCI Express speed outside the box.

Thunderbolt gives you up to 10 Gbps in both directions, allowing for super-fast data transfer between peripherals. You also have enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without using a hub or switch.

Thunderbolt also provides double the power of USB 3.0, delivering 10 watts to peripherals for improved performance on the go.

      Thought it was my computer

I knew if I finally got my LaCie to finally connect if I even breathed on the cord it would eject. I came here to see if there was a way to get a new cord for mine but after reading that others are having this same issue...I was happy with mine until it did this and I've had it for 3 years or more. Very sad.

      Absolute nightmare

"Rugged"? Not a chance. I used it purely as an archive drive, i.e. copied files to it and put it away in a safe place. When the critical day came that I needed "Rugged"? Not a chance. I used it purely as an archive drive, i.e. copied files to it and put it away in a safe place. When the critical day came that I needed to restore lost data, the drive was corrupt. 100% data loss. Appears to be a hardware failure, as I can't even erase the device successfully. From the looks of the reviews, I'm not the first. Plus, the warranty expired a few months ago. Total waste of money, time, and it left me feeling burned. I will never trust a LaCie (or Seagate for that matter) product again.

Good Product - Brilliant After Sales Support

I had one of these for nearly two years as a time machine backup - it worked flawlessly for that time, then just failed. These things are advertised as being in I had one of these for nearly two years as a time machine backup - it worked flawlessly for that time, then just failed. These things are advertised as being indestructible and capable of being run over and surviving a 5ft drop. Well mine was just sitting on my desk and it still failed! Which was annoying, but not disastrous as it was just the backup so I had at least two more copies of my data. But the wonderful thing was that it had a two year guarantee. I went through some of the troubleshooting guides on LaCie's website (very good) but it was obviously a mechanical fault, so raised a ticket on LaCie's website. I had a few quick emails with a technician at LaCie who soon agreed to replace the drive - I posted it back and within a week a new drive had arrived. The new drive is working well. The quality of this service and the seamless running of the drive before it failed is why I have given four stars. I would definitely buy a LaCie drive again simply to get this level of after sale support. Well done LaCie!

Very, very, very disappointed in this drive!

It had problems begin I purchased this drive to use as a backup drive for my MacBook Pro, and purchased it along with my new Mac less than a year ago (in 2017). It had problems beginning in the first couple of months of use. It would eject itself before a backup was complete, then it seemed to work fine. Then it decided to eject itself before I could even start the backup with Time Machine. Now I can hear its disk spinning when I connect its cable to my Mac, but the drive will not mount and does not appear in the finder or on the desktop. This is my backup drive! It sits quietly in a padded bag inside a locked file cabinet. It has never been dropped. It is used once every few days for backup. It just died for no apparent reason. I will not purchase another LaCie drive after this experience. This is not a reliable drive.

      Works for me

I'm on my 4th Lacie 2tb rugged thunderbolt drive and just happened to check reviews here as a new one was just delivered from Amazon. Shocked is an understateme I'm on my 4th Lacie 2tb rugged thunderbolt drive and just happened to check reviews here as a new one was just delivered from Amazon. Shocked is an understatement. I've never had a single issue with mine. My only complaint actually is about the Thunderbolt connection which is just not firm. Definitely have to make sure the cable isn't being tugged even slightly while in use. Otherwise, no issues.

It has been fantastic and LaCie 1TB Rugged Portable Hard Drive - Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 - we bought one of these for our small firm to work as the main drive. It has been fantastic and worked much better than the previous G-Drive. The purpose of having it was so that we could take it away and do offsite back ups every week. It has been great for this and performed without any hiccups or problems. It has also been better than the previous G-drive which occasionally seemed to hang due to a USB bus fault. No problems with this Lacie drive so far bee really great and reliable.
