There are no cosmetic differences from what I can tell, but the audio (to me) is noticeably different. Much clearer and the switching between my iWatch and iPhone is seamless. Before it required turning them off and on and other unpairing/pairing options. I can't say if the one thing that has plagued my other two pairs has been fixed or not: The hinge. I take care of my electronics and they get charged every night, but gym use takes its toll. I've replaced the headband on the other pairs so many times that I lost count. Time will tell. These are expensive, even for a techie like me, but I don't buy them for the name. I like the bluetooth connectivity, the clear audio, and the noise cancelling. The over-ear works for me for comfort so to each his own. Whatever they did inside more than makes up for what they didn't on the outside. I would have liked to see a lightning or USB-C charging port, but hey maybe for Studio4.

      Convenient, but not great sound

If sound quality is not of interest to you then this review will not be for you. I am obsessive about the sound experience of the reproduction devices I use, l If sound quality is not of interest to you then this review will not be for you. I am obsessive about the sound experience of the reproduction devices I use, looking for those that duplicate at home as much as possible the same experience that I get at a concert. My tastes are eclectic, having heard in concert Philip Philips, André Rieu, the Mariinsky Stradivarius Ensemble, Joshua Bell, Yo Yo Ma, Arlo Guthrie, to name just a few. Some weeks I can attend 2 or 3 concerts. I occasionally score a great seat where I seat just 10 feet away from the performer, such as at the Philip Philips concert, but I am never more that 75 feet away from the stage. I have searched for a long time to find headphones which will give me this same experience at home. Ultimate Ears custom in-line monitors, Bose Quietcomfort 20 as well as over the ear, Phiaton PS210, Etymotic ER-4P (with custom ear plugs), Grado GS100i have all been tried. What I am listening for is the sound of the hammer hitting the strings on a piano, the sound of a symbol or drum being hit right in front of me. My Oppo PM-1's (wired) and Sennheiser RS 195's (wireless) give me that experience. The Studio3's do not. If you have ever needed to tone down the decibel level of a concert that is 105 db or higher (the point at which ear damage occurs within minutes) with earplugs you will get the same sound as the Studio3's. I have custom Etymotic ear plugs which I reluctantly use when needed. The bass is not affected, but the presence of the percussion instruments, particularly, is lost. Bass comes through fine, but those sounds which tell you that you are at a concert, the sound of the bow hitting strings, are gone. It is like listening to compressed 256 kbs streaming music. As for other features the Studio3's look nice (better than the Sennheisers), but both are almost all plastic which seems to be the default material in this price range.. The lights which indicate startup and shutdown are attractive. The pairing with apple devices is certainly very easy. I haven't really compared the noise cancelling with my Bose Quietcomfort 20's, but I do find it annoying to have to keep turning off the ANC every time I start them up. I use them in a quiet environment at home where I want to hear what is happening on the stove. Even though my house is cold (upper 60's), they still are sweaty. My wireless Sennheiser RS 195s give me a bit better bass, and have the presence that the Studio3's don't have for about the same price. But this isn't totally a fair comparison, as the Studio3 is for use on portable devices connected via Bluetooth, and the Sennheisers are used for television viewing and have a combined stand and broadcast base station. So I may be unfair, possibly this lack of presence is a bluetooth limitation. I put up with the sound when I'm moving around since they are so convenient to use, but for real listening I use my Oppo planar headphones or my home theater stereo tower speakers. So my ratings would b4: Convenience ***** Appearance **** Sound *** Price **
