If your laptop has more than one USB-C port that supports charging, then yes. If it has one port, i.e. the 12" MacBook, then no; you should purchase the HDMI or VGA multiport adapter--those have a full-size USB port like this adapter does, and also provide a USB-C port that can be used to charge the MacBook.
