    extremely disappointed

    • Written by Mark Q from El Segundo

Okay Apple, why are you selling these Belkin USB-C to Ethernet Adapters (F2CU040). I bought it for my new MacBook Air with (USB-C) and it does NOT work at all. I can see the lights on my switch turning on so it sees the device but I shouldn't have to deal with drivers and stuff to make this work. This is Apple after-all and all things sold by you guys in "theory" should have been tested and compatible.
Seriously....I would pay twice as much for something that just works...now I have to go back to the store and figure out why this isn't working (and I don't want to deal with all the drivers...that's why I moved away from PC's !)

Belkin says it's not compatible with MacBook Pro 2017

    • Written by Derek L from Newmarket

After my 3rd Belkin adapter burned up and died, I reported it to Belkin and received a call back. Belkin confirmed to me that this adapter is only compatible with MacBook Pro up to 2016—not 2017. I noticed that the Genius Bar uses a beefier unit. Apple, please start selling those. Surely they have a better regulator!

    does not work

    • Written by Greg G from London

I bought a new MB Pro with Touch Bar. I need ethernet to connect to our enterprise network. Was recommended this dongle at the Local apple store. Long story short: it does not work. After going through all kinds of troubleshooting with my local IT group, we concluded that it was a piece of junk out of the box.

Why is Apple selling a faulty adaptor in stores?

    • Written by Kurt H from Bolton

I've used one of these adaptors for nearly two years now on my MBP 13,3 and occasionally it wouldn't be recognized but when I removed and re-plugged it worked. Now it fails to be recognized so I went to the Apple Store in Ginza, Tokyo and brought a new one, which also is not recognized at all. Every other USB adaptor I have works fine. I left the box in the store because it was overpackaged bulk and now I have a new adaptor that doesn't work at all. I can't believe this is sold in Apple Stores.

As others have said, piece of junk. I bought a second one after the first one failed, more fool me. Both stopped working after about a month.

Do not buy this product. Period.

    slow adapter

    • Written by Theo H from Amsterdam

This adapter is not worth the purchase and misleads customers. It does not work at the promised speeds. Max speed is around 350-400, but fluctuates all the time. Even wifi is more stable than this adapter.

    Slow performance - inferior product

    • Written by Colin R from Bellevue Hill

For the old Macbook Air, Apple sold an excellent Thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor. That no longer works with the new Macbook Air Retina, because the new MacBook Air does not accept Thunderbolt (only Thunderbolt 3) -- unless you double dongle ... and Apple does NOT make a Thunderbolt 3 to Ethernet adaptor (which is simply ridiculous). So, instead, I purchased from the Apple store this Belkin USB-C (not Thunderbolt 3) to Ethernet adaptor ... even though it gets an appalling rating on the Apple store (most users give it 1 out of 5 stars).
I then measured transfer speeds using the Belkin adaptor, and in every test, the Belkin USB-C adaptor has been slower on the new Macbook Air Retina than using Apple's Thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor on the old Mac - an appalling outcome. That is going backwards ... not going forwards. Action needed: bring out a Thunderbolt 3 to Ethernet adaptor. Do the same for HDMI too. It is absurd bringing out new Macs supporting Thunderbolt 3, and not even offering adaptors that support them.

    • Written by Elias A from Sundbyberg

Compared the old macbook dongel that has thunderbolt with this one. Got close to 1000Mbits. With this Belkin USB-C dongel I get around 200-300 Mbits

So avoid buying this official dongel!

    stopped working after 2weeks

    • Written by Tomasz S from Wrocław

this is just crazy, it is a 2nd connector that stops working shortly after buying... Is Apple blocking non-Apple products connected to USB-C ? It is just crazy how the non-Apple stuff is not compatible with Apple Mac products. Can't be a coincidence I think. In Windows world I could plug literally anything to USB and it would just work like a charm for years.. even Chinese manufactured devs worth 3$! For Mac everything costs at least 60$, even the very simple hardware, like connectors... non-Apple converters are also far more expensive than the PC counterparts. Non-Apple connectors seem either not working at all, or are very unstable, to the point you can't rely on the connector.. Shame Apple, shame... I think this is going to be my first and last Mac Book Pro - all shiny and powerful but can't do stuff that 200 $ laptops can do reliably which is essential for getting work done..

Garbage, doesn't work. The Moshi adapter I bought works perfectly on first try. Many people here whining about Apple but Belkin needs to get their stuff together on this one.

    Not working after 3 months

    • Written by Preston T from Orlando

Since Mac is so advanced that everything needs an $80 to $150 dongle rather than using the standard connections (sarcasm intended), I had to buy this in order to have a wired connection. So glad that it stopped working after 3 months (again sarcasm intended). Maybe its time to start looking at Android phones and Surface Pro laptops that don't require so many add-ons in order to work properly? I don't know that my company can afford the true cost of owning a Mac as its higher than its ever been only minus the quality.

    Avoid!

    • Written by Bengt-Erik O from Mountain Lakes

So, wired Ethernet is sill required in many situations and the Belkin adapter is the only USB-C Ethernet adapter in many Apple Stores. Got my first one with my new MacBook Pro 13" about a year ago and never got it to work, so returned it. Instead got a cheap one from eBay that worked fine until I lost it somewhere, like so many other adapters that are required to connect modern MacBooks to the outside world. Went to the local Apple Store and again, the Belikin Ethernet adapter was the only one available so I took a chance and bought it. -Even this adapter did not work! One would think that if it was a driver issue, it should have been included in the latest OSX 10.13.5 so I don't think thats the issue. It is also stated on the Belkin website that no additional driver is needed. The device still gets hot though, so probably it will drain battery even though it is working. Please remove this adapter from the stores and provide us something with higher quality!

    Drains battery when plugged in

    • Written by Michael D from New Westminster

For me this adapter manages to drain the battery of my laptop to 0% even when it is plugged-in! Definitely a no go.

I exchanged the first one I bought thinking I got a lemon but about to bring back the second one which has the same issue.

Failed to work out of the box

    • Written by E Riley C from Silver Spring

I have two dongles for the 2016 MBP, one a full dock and one a portable Ethernet & USB combo dongle but the Ethernet on the smaller device is apparently a "bridged connection" which won't work for my application. The vendor of the software that requires a non-bridged Ethernet connection specified the Apple brand dongle but when I asked for that at the Apple store the only option they had to offer was this Belkin unit. The adaptor showed as available in the network control panel when first connected but with a "no cable attached" message regardless of which cable or device I connected to it. On the third try a day later it would not show up in the network control panel at all. It has been returned but I still need a portable Ethernt adaptor for this MBP that isn't bridged. Can anyone recommend one?

    crashes mac

    • Written by David D from El cajon

I have a macbook pro late 2016 and plugging in this adapter causes a kernel panic and crashes the mac....I even tried a different one to see if I had a bad adapter but after looking at the reviews I see that this wouldn't have mattered because as you would suspect, it happens to the other adapter as well. Someone needs to fix this.

Terrible product. Should have read the reviews first. Bought it last year when I got my new MacBook but didn't start using it until last week. Well, in under a week, it's dead. It's not being recognized anymore.
