    great but pricey

The only time I had to replace mine was because my dog chewed the cord. I love having the long or short cord option. The MagSafe has saved me quite a few times and just makes me feel less worried that one of my kids will trip over it. I don't understand why it can't cost $20 to $40 less though.

After 2 years - Excellent service

I used my magsafe charger for 2 years and the charging end came off. I took it to a local Apple store in Manchester (UK) and it was replaced with a brand new one - no problem. Inever was aware of any problems with the charger... but i was really impressed with the service i received. Yes - it was replaced free of charge. Thank you Apple.

Not the best, but not terrible.

I've had the same charger for my Macbook Pro 15 inch for 5 years now, and I'm just now having to buy a new one because it's making strange sounds when I plug it in. 5 years isn't great, but I think it's pretty good considering how much I toted that thing around during college.

What are you people doing to/with your adapters?

I have 3 adapters that i have been using for, oh, 3 years or so. i have dogs that regularly bounce them off the the bed and they have been subjected to lots of airline travel and packing and being dragged everywhere.

i have never had one fail, fray, break, wear out, or catch on fire. i am careful not to stress the mag end of the cable when i'm using my Macbook Pro on my lap, but other than that, i haven't been especially careful with them.

Now the freaking batteries are a whole nother talk show

Overpriced but never had any problems

Decided to look at a new charger for my macbook as its started fraying and to see they're £65?, What worries me about buying a new one is the fact my charger has been perfect for the last 3 years, i thought this was good considering my mum went through 4 laptop chargers for her HP laptop within a year and a half, but seeing all the reviews has scared me, only reason my charger has started to split is because of the way I've plugged it in, i also take my laptop everywhere so i think the chargers done good compared to most people.

Works just fine on 2007 Mac Book Pro

The newer style adapter works just fine on my 2007 Mac Book Pro. The photograph is misleading. The connector is the same, it is just styled differently. My original power adapter last 3 years and only gave out to a voracious 14 month old teething baby. Otherwise I had not experienced any fraying or other problems mentioned in the reviews.

Works fine on my MBP 2007

My charger went out on me after almost 3 years of working fine. I was kind of worried about this charger being compatible with my later MBP, but I've had no charging issues and it sits firmly in place. When purchased my MBP I also got the AppleCare Protection Plan so they replace my power adapter free of charge.

    Works As Advertised

I have 3 of the same power bricks. One for home, one at work and one for travelling. As i travel and move around quite a lot, the one for travelling is the one i abuse the most. Take it out, unwind and plug it in, wind it back and chuck it into my hand carry or backpack. Hotels, coffee joints and airports, i like seeing 100% battery status but that is just me so i always use it plugged in all the time. I like the fact that it allows me to wind the cable around the brick nicely and in a compact fashion. Yes i do use the removable cord that comes with it as well because if i do not, there is a certain amount of static charge on the laptop when it is plugged in direct.

Contrary to what others have mentioned, for the last 3 years, i am still on the same set of power bricks. No fraying whatsoever. Perhaps i am lucky but since most of the time people write reviews only when they have a bad experience with a product, i thought i chip in with a good experience on my part.

    Pretty good

This charger offers the innovative solution of magnetism, effectively solving the issue of equipment damage when you trip over the wire. Although this has not happened to me, I am confident that it will work during a real emergency. One point of criticism I would like to make, is that the cable has a certain quote-unquote "memory", that causes the cable, after being wrapped around the charger's little retractable tabs, to stay curled up in a not-so-intuitive-or-useful way. Other than that, another great Apple product!

    Works great

Works great on my old 2006 15" MacBook Pro. I like it how it now runs along the side of the laptop and hopefully will it will not fray like the original charger. $80+ for a replacement charger is very steep considering you can't use it on anything else other than the laptop itself. Should be more priced around $40-$50, so one star off for it being a bit too expensive to replace. Other than that, very nice and works like a charm.

Very good but has a design flaw

Have had my 65W PowerBook G4 mains adapter since Jan 2006 and it's never missed a beat. Innovative design with the detachable extension cable. Also with the ability to plug the power brick straight into a socket which no other manufacturer that I know of has. Flip-out cable coiling hook things (cable management hooks) for the low voltage cable are quite good but a detachable cable would be a better alternative. My 2005 power adapter has a design flaw though and, looking at this latest one, it still has it! The low voltage cable comes out the FRONT of the brick (when it is plugged straight into a socket). If it was on the BOTTOM of the brick it would look better, be less prone to damage and take up less space behind furniture. Apple could take a design cue from UK mains plugs on this, the design of which was well thought out, unlike the plugs in most other countries. Also, as I said, having the cable detachable would be better for transporting the adapter and reduce the likelihood of damage further!

Works well - but DO NO WRAP CORD

I have had the old version of this for 3 1/2 years and had no problems - and I take the power supply home virtually every day in my bag. Also have a new MBP with the new design and have no problems. The new adapter charges the late 2007 MBP no problems (seems like they may have fixed the problem reported by so many others).

The problem seems to be when people wrap the cord around the end of the adapter (as it seems designed to do). I have never wrapped this around - because it seems obvious it will weaken the cord. Love the standard figure 8 end, have plenty of cables to plug it in to.

So I say great product - just never ever ever wrap the skinny bit around the casing. Just put it in your bag as-is.

Needs a bit more engineering to make it better

I agree with a recent review about the output connection needing some rework so that if the cord is damaged it can be replaced, thus continuing to use the main charger.

Further, Apple could put a USB port into the charger, so that iPhones, and iPads could be charged up using the same charger.

This would be of a major benefit to households, and business alike, not to mention people in hospitals, etc, etc

    They have worked for me

I have used the original chargers with several MacBook Pros and never had any fraying issues of the cords. The center block does get hotter than I think it should. If you abuse the cords they will fail on you. Stuffing the cords into back packs and stressing the connector end will result in premature failure.

    it's great!

The best part of the new power adapter is that the stiff metal end can direct your power cord away from peripherals using the other ports, minimizing tangles... awesome. Not sure how it will hold up to my heavy travel demands since I've only had it a week but I'm optimistic so far!

Not sure what all the fuss is about

I have a 4.5 year old MBP and have 3 of these power adapters/cables. 2 for in the house and one on the road. I've NEVER had an issue with the cord fraying near the magentic connector. It's been hit, and kicked at the coffee house numerous times. The rubber collar is in great shape. What are you folks doing to yours that I am not??

    Honest Review

I bought my MacBook Pro in the beginning of 2015. I've had it for two years. With my experiences, the only complaint I have is that the little plastic tabs to wrap the cord around broke. I am very gentle and easy with my equipment. That shouldn't have broken although, it HAS been two years.. I mean wear and tear does exist, right? The charger cord is getting a little bulged up as well. I can't lie about that. I do think overall, this is a very good charger. It DOES get hot, but again I think that's normal. Thank you apple, for always manufacturing high end products.

    Great product!

Great product here! No problems on a 2010 MBP.
Only thing I wish is that it came with a cover for the tip. I'm scared I could accidentally step on it and smash the end.
