No, You can only use "Taget Display Mode" with a 2011 iMac and a 2011 MacBook Pro.

No. You cannot use a Thunderbolt cable to connect to a non-Thunderbolt display. Instead, use a Mini Display Port cable to connect the iMac 27 (2010) to the MacBook Pro.
