Can this adapter be used with a normal Lightening cable and the Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter to charge my iPad Pro (12.7") faster?

I travel a lot so I'm trying to keep my cables to a minimum. I'd rather use an adapter like this in addition to the 29W adapter to charge my iPad Pro (biggest size) much faster. Of course I'd also save a few bucks.

Will this work?

Yes, you can charge the 12.7" iPad Pro with your 29W USB-C power adapter. However you will need to use the USB-C to Lightning cable, also sold by Apple in 1M and 2M lengths. As of today the 12.7" iPad Pro is the only iPad that supports fast charging. However, the convenience of carrying one power adapter makes it a nice solution for all of your Lightning devices.

  • Probably not. There are resistors that have to be in the male plug of any USB-C device that signal the power source about the maximum power it should try to supply. This prevents a cable from trying to carry more current than it's designed for.

I may be wrong but I would assume that this adapter is wired in such a way that it will not ask for more power than a standard USB port would supply, since its receptacle would put it outside of the spec otherwise.
