Will this adapter work to connect a 2015 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 2 to a HP USB-C Dock G5 connected to 2 additional monitors?

I was hoping this is a simple solution to connect to a my MacBook Pro to a dock and use monitors that I have set up separately. If it does work, will it also charge the MacBook Pro?

  • No. The HP is a USB-C dock, not a Thunderbolt dock. The Apple TB 3 to TB 2 Adapter is only for connecting TB devices. TB 2 ports cannot be used for charging. A USB-C dock can be connected if you add a USB-C port that includes USB and DisplayPort Alt Mode such as by adding a TB 3 device with two TB 3 ports. The HP uses an MST hub for multiple displays. macOS does not support MST that way. Use a TB 3 dock for 2 displays (or two TB 2 docks).
