I read somewhere that it might actually charge the iPad Pro 12" slower than the 29W USB-C power adaptor. The reason is the 87W USB-C charger outputs specific voltages and currents designed for the MacBook. To fast charge the iPad Pro 12" an output voltage is needed that isn't provided by this power adaptor, so it will pick the lowest common denominator (which I believe is a 12W output).

  • Nope, but it won't charge slower either. Apple products draw as much power as they're capable of from any Apple charger, and the 12.9 inch iPad Pro maxes out at drawing 29W. It'll draw that amount from any of the Mac chargers, including the 87W. All the other iPad's and iPhones (including the 9 inch iPad Pro) max out at drawing 12W, even if the Apple charger is capable of going higher.
