I have just upgraded my iMac to Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6. Can I upgrade to Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion straight away.

Once you are updated to OS 10.6.8 and have at least 2GB of memory, you can upgrade directly to OS 10.8 by using the App Store app.
However, OS 10.8 does not support iMacs older than mid-2007.
Go to Apple --> About This Mac --> More Info --> System Report --> Hardware Overview.
If the model ID of your iMac is iMac6,1 or less, your iMac is too old.
If the model ID of your iMac is iMac7,1 or higher, your iMac meets the system requirements for OS 10.8.

Before upgrading to 10.8, select Software Update from the Apple menu and install any available updates. Keep doing this until there are no more updates available. At this point your iMac should be running 10.6.8, and you will be able to launch the Mac App Store to purchase and install 10.8 Mountain Lion.
