Oh yes. The last update of OS 10.6 is OS 10.6.8 which was released June-July 2011.
There have been 6 major OS X versions since then. The current version is Sierra (OS 10.12).
Which OS X can run on your Mac depends on your Mac's hardware. OS 10.11 and OS 10.12 are free. OS 10.7 and OS 10.8 can be purchased from the online Apple Store. (OS 10.9 and OS 10.10 are no longer available as any Mac supported by those versions are also supported by OS 10.11.)
To know which OS X can run on your Mac, submit another question: "Which is latest version of OS X supported by Model Identifier ______?"
The Model Identifier is found by going to Apple Menu --> About This Mac --> More Info --> System Report --> Hardware Overview.
PS: A Mac must be running OS 10.6.8 or later and have at least 2GB of memory before any later version of OS X can be installed.
