It has less Ports, no support for Hard Drives, and it is theoretically less powerful although it still packs a fairly large punch. It also features AirTunes, which the Extreme and Time Capsule do not.

  • AirTunes functionality which both time capsule and extreme don't support.

  • For the most part, the extreme does have more advanced features for complicated networks as well as gigabit Ethernet vs the 10/100 of the express.

  • It also allows you to Bridge the Extended network while using the ethernet port for an external device, on the previous model it could only do one of the two at one time.
