Can I upgrade to mountain lion from snow leopard 10.6.8 on my early 2008 Macbook Pro?

I have searched the web and it seemed I could upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard on my early 2008 Macbook Pro. However, having just received Mountain Lion, it tells me that my computer is not up to it. I have 2GB ram and run 10.6.8. I understood that to be the requirements. Any help???

  • I am currently running OS 10.10.5 on a late 2008 MacBook Pro 15" with 8GB of 1067Mz DDR3 RAM (2 x 4GB), without any problems.

Hope that helps: you may wish to increase your RAM (try Crucial RAM) and see if that prevents the error messages. I think you will need at least 4GB of RAM (2 x 2GB), more if you can, to have a sufficiency.

You may also wish to know that the App Store keeps offering me an upgrade to El Capitan so I suspect your chances of running 10.7 are high :)
