This monitor can be controlled by a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014, NVIDIA GT750M) at 4K resolution instead of 5k?

Clearly my Macbook Pro does not support the 5k resolution even through double thunderbolt 2 connection.
But, using a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, I could use this to monitor at 4K resolution instead of 5k?

    Yes, I have the same specs and it works just fine in MacOS. Can't get it to work in Windows though.

    You could get 5K (but without speakers, camera, microphone, USB ports) using a GC-ALPINE RIDGE card in a IT-GO "ADP-099-31" enclosure connected with two mini DisplayPort cables, but macOS Nvidia drivers don't work well with MST displays so 5K probably won't work with your MacBook Pro. An MST display is a display that uses two DisplayPort streams (either through a DisplayPort cable, a Thunderbolt 3 cable, or two DisplayPort cables). One stream is used for the left half of the display, and the other stream is used for the right half of the display. Currently, all 5K displays are MST (except maybe the iMac built-in display). All 5K displays support a 4K SST mode.

    The Apple support document HT206587 "Using 4K displays, 5K displays, and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac" shows which Macs support MST displays (including Dual DisplayPort displays). None of the listed Macs have Nvidia graphics.

    macOS Nvidia drivers work with the Dell UP2715K 5K display, but you need to set a boot argument "nv_spanmodepolicy=1", and you may need to turn off the display and turn it on again after boot to get it to switch to 5K. I don't think this workaround works with the LG 5K display or the HP Z27q 5K display.

    AMD graphics is better supported in macOS with MST displays and won't have those problems. Your MacBook Pro could use an AMD graphics card in an eGPU enclosure.
