No for two reasons: firstly, this adapter only provides video output from USB-C to HDMI, not input from HDMI to USB-C. Secondly, regardless of the adapter, the 4K/5K iMacs do not support Target Display Mode, so you cannot do this on the 4K/5K iMac with *any* adapter, the only thing you can show on the iMac screen is the iMac itself.
If connected to an Apple 87W USB-C power supply, will this pass the full 87W?
I’m getting only 55 watts. I noticed this when my MacBook Pro 15 2018 starts to drain the battery being connected to the original charger throuh the adapter. I looked in the iStat app the power source abd it shows 55W. Connected directly shows the full 86W and never drains the battery.

As far as my experience has gone this only passes power. If you plug in other items you are likely to burn them out (has happened to me)

No. The iPhone 8+ does not have a USB-C Port, in fact no iPhone has a USB-C Port. You are looking for the Lightning Digital AV Multiport Adapter, though it will probably only support 1080p, not 4K.

No. The MacBook Air 2019 is limited to DisplayPort 1.2 because it uses Intel UHD Graphics 617 (instead of AMD graphics or the newest Intel Ice Lake graphics).
DisplayPort 1.2 allows 4K 60Hz with four lanes of DisplayPort but this adapter uses two of the four lanes for USB 3.0. The adapter supports 4K 60Hz only for computers that support DisplayPort 1.4.
To achieve 4K 60Hz, it might use chroma sub sampling 4:2:2 with HBR3 (requires DisplayPort 1.4) or 4:2:0 (requires DisplayPort 1.4) with HBR2.

According to the apple support page "About the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter", it does NOT support "Apple USB SuperDrive model manufactured before Fall 2010" - I guess if your SuperDrive is manufactured *after* Fall 2010, it will work.
