With the new AirPods , you can charge the earphones wireless by putting them into the case and with the old ones, they are not wireless you have to charge them using a cable and with the newer ones you can either charge the case using a charging pad or the apple cable. But, if you do not want to purchase the £200 AirPods , you can just but the £80 wireless charging case and put the old AirPods earphones in and make them wireless

Yes. Your 6S Plus can be updated to 12.2 which work best with AirPods second generation.
It does and charge for 24 hours
Yes it will as long as the protective case in under 3-5mm thick and not made of metal or magnetic material. Magnets and metal will not allow for the wireless charging to work.
AirPod temperature tolerances
I work landscaping in the sun and my air pods have held up quite well no issues at all in the sun or when I sweat a lot. In winter they also work just as fine here in Toronto
Depending on your ear shape, these should not come out of your ears. However, if you are planning to use wireless earphones mostly in a gym scenario, I would recommend the Beats Powerbeats Pro - Totally Wireless if you can afford it, as these offer better grip and sweat protection. However, in most cases, AirPods should do just fine.
I believe they have the same coating as the 1st gen AirPods. They’re not at all slippery in my experience, but I think that seemed on use case.
Essentially all skins and cases will work. Wireless charging will work through 3-5mm thick cases (so most will work) and it cannot have metal or a magnet on the back, otherwise, wireless charging will not work.
Yes.
