I love most of what Apple does, but do they really need to sell you an entire Power Adaptor when all I was looking for was the extension cord. 85 bucks for a new power cord seems a tad excessive to me.

And I agree, the product needs to be better conceived. Make the product a little more durable, perhaps make a rotating mag so you can position it however you choose, and then make it bomb-proof. I'm sick of getting nickel and dimed by this company. I've spent thousands of dollars on this company's products, music, movies, etc. over the years.

Burnt my 13' 2008 Black MacBook Power Connector

My original Power Adapter died and I decided to buy this brand-new & slicker design charger trusting Apple's quality and care for compatibility.

What a disappointment and frustration when after the (supposed to solve all problems) firmware upgrade the charger:

1/ Keeps being on-and-off depending on the connectors' position (?!?)
    2/ Becomes ultra-hot at the metallic-connector level
3/ Sometimes, don't decide to start charging (keeps being green whereas I'm 5% battery)
4/ Makes my MacBook connector smell like (and indeed it is) burnt/melt plastic!

Solution: Few months later I just bought an "old design" charger model and everything came back to normal.

Conclusion: I'm sorry to say this but I think this product doesn't even deserve a star.

Terrible fit, wiggles up and down all the time causing the computer to charge then not charge. While I haven't seen any ill effects on the battery life, it's rather annoying seeing the screen light up then darken as it registers the charge, or lack there of.

    Not worth the price

Apple makes great laptops and desktops but I don't understand why they can't make a STURDY, LONG LASTING ADAPTER to charge our MacBooks with. This is by far the worst power adapter I've ever used. It's definitely a downgrade from the original adapter (which lasted a good year for me). This new one is already shorting out, not holding a charge and over heating barely three and a half months after purchasing it. That's inexcusable.

$79.00 for a product like this is unjustifiable and way overpriced. Apple needs to either bring the price down so I can be able buy another one every time it starts shorting out or come up with a better design that is worthy of paying $79.00 for. I would strongly suggest the second choice.

    MagSafe for 13" book

Started with the old one, the cable wore at the magnetic plug, like others have said. Went to the updated one; first one, bought at BestBuy, didn't last a year, has quit working. Bought 2nd one from a local authorized Mac repair guy, buys his stuff from Apple. Will see........

    Not durable.

This is the second time mine has broke. It seems like this is an issue for a lot of people too. Why make a product if it isn't going to last? It is kind of frustrating because I am a student, and I can't do any work now until I get my new charger shipped in.

The most awful product from Apple

I've had my MacBook Pro since late 2009 and this is the second charger I have gone through. The first died on the day my warranty finished and I got it changed from Apple. Basically the problem was that MagSafe was showing yellow and blinking orange colour but not charging at all.

NOw after 6 months of changing the second one to a L shaped, It is showing some sort of weird problem. It shows yellow on one side and orange on the other side and it takes twice as long to charge the battery.

I am really upset by this and hope Apple come up with some ownership of the problem. I'm now out of warranty and have to fork out £50 for a new one.

    Too expensive to replace

I resent the fact that a simple (but ever-so-very necessary) replacement part should be so expensive. This is my third power cord in less than 4 months since buying my new computer (I left one somewhere, and my cat chewed through one). My computer is useless without it, but it doesn't seem like it should have to cost $80 to get get electricity from the wall into the computer. Thanks to apple's tweaks (the little magnetic connector), I can't even substitute the power cord I have from my old ibook.

    Good product

I've read all the other reviews and each situation may be different, but as for my experience, I love the product. I've had my MacBook Pro now about nine months and the charger has worked perfectly every time. It doesn't overheat or get warm at all and I love the ease of connecting it to the machine. I would love to buy a second one for the office, but the $80 is a little steep for that luxury.

    highway robbery.

Honestly I don't know where this company finds the nerve to charge $80 for replacement chargers. I have had my computer for about a year and have gone through 2 chargers. The last one didnt last me 3 months before it started its rapid decline. It's ludicrous that they havent come up with a more durable product at this point. As a student I can't be worrying if my computer is suddenly going to be rendered useless because my charger is a piece. I have neither the time or money to be wasting going back and for the the store for new chargers...espercially when I did nothing wrong to make it stop working. Absolutely ridiculous. Awful product.

This is the most Horrible product of life they break so easy and overheat
Iv had to buy more then two now. Apple should make a new stronger product.
The life span is horrible for the price. If this is how there made they should be marked down to AT LEAST 20 dollars. Come on Apple.

    Bad quality

I bought my MacBook Pro in June and I've already had to buy 2 battery chargers because they are always broking, I'm already on my way to buy the third one.
If it wasn't for my MacBook that I love, I would had changed my computer long time ago.

    EXTREME Heat

Just a caution not to allow this adapter to be inadvertently covered up. The adapter body got covered by a misplaced couch pillow. When I uncovered it after about 20 minutes, the adapter was so hot that the plastic began to give off a burning smell. I think if it had been there much longer, it may have caused a fire. Oh and by the way, this is my second adapter since June 2010. HEY APPLE....IT'S TIME YOU DID SOMETHING ABOUT THIS HORRIBLE PIECE OF HARDWARE.

    Surprisingly awful product

I purchased my MacBook Pro for college. Naturally, I expected great things from a company who advocates so strongly for education. The MagSafe Power Adapter has NEVER worked properly. Each time I connect it to my MacBook, I have to play around with it before the light goes on and my computer charges at all. Now, after reading MANY reviews, I fear that soon it will stop working altogether. I'm extremely disappointed in Apple for its failure to produce a dependable product. As a student, I depend on my computer for my education, and if my computer has no power, what am I supposed to do?

    poor design

The magnetic piece looks strong and durable, and the power brick is fine, but the cord connecting the two is terrible. It just disconnected from the magnetic piece and there is no way to buy a new cord without buying a whole new adapter. If the pieces were designed to come apart so easily, couldn't they be designed to at least come apart in functional parts that can be bought separately? Please, Apple, make things that are made to last, not waste money, time, and resources. I switched to a Mac just a few months ago thinking Apple was overall a more thoughtful company and I'm already starting to regret it. Its just more expensive. I was hoping that came with better quality or standards.

The one thing apple can't do

I love my MacBook and had my first pier cord for 20months. (the old style) this then due to it's frequent use wore out and broke just as everyones has. As it was not under warranty I replaced it with one of the new L MagSafes in the USA this one lasted little over 6months with little more than average use. I bought a new one last week as the apple person wouldn't accept a replacement as the first L connecter was bought over seas. This new one has stopped working today... This better be replaced because I am beyond angry

APPLE can NOT make power cords.

I have had a macbook pro since august (it is now february) and already replaced my charger once and it has broken again. For no apparent reason, it has just stopped charging my laptop, no damage was done, it simply just stopped working.

Impossible to keep from damage if you have cats

Clearly the designers of this expensive cat toy do not own pets (or at least cats). I'm about due for another laptop and will get a different brand solely because I am tired of doing the dance of trying to power up my Macbook while keeping my cats away. I am tired of dragging around cords full of gashes, wondering if I have some sort of hazard on my hands, and trying not to inadvertently pull apart any of the numerous tears on the cord. It only takes a minute of distraction for a cat to destroy the cute soft stringlike thing that Apple actually believes is a viable power source. Is a pet-safe cord really too much to ask for?

    Adapter design

The design of the new adapter blocks all the ports. I've got a speck cover on my laptop so adapter only works in one direcion
