Cable is too stiff, resulting in shearing.

I'm now purchasing my 3rd adapter in 5 years. The first one was the old design where the wire came directly out of the magnetic plug. The wire for that one broke off at the junction with the magnetic plug. The second one I bought was the current version with the wire at a 90 degree angle with magnetic plug. I was optimistic that this would correct my previous problem, and it did. The problem with the second one was that the smaller wire that goes to the computer sheared off at the base where it connects to the main adapter. IMO the problem is primarily with the brittleness and/or stiffness of the wire Apple uses for these cords. I have experienced the exact same thing with the iPhone cords which have a similar feel. The quality of these cables is probably my biggest complaint with Apple products across the board. It's almost like they design them to be disposable.

WORST CHARGING CABLE IN THE GAME.

I've gone through 4 chargers in 2 years!

There is a serious flaw with this product and apple has yet to acknowledge it. Typing this as I sit in an apple store in Bridgewater, NJ waiting for them to replace my 4th charger. Fingers Crossed. Shaking my head!

    Worst product

I love all my apple products. But I have to say this charger is their worst product. I had to buy 2 of these chargers within 3 years. The first one melted, the skin of second one has split in just 14months and from my past experience I fear that it will break in few months. I took lot of care while using the second one and let me tell you I use this charger mostly as a fixed charger because I hardly carry this laptop anywhere. Please discontinue this and design a new one.
    Extremely disappointed.
    Buyers: take lot of care.

    AWFUL!

Woke up this morning to finish editing a paper that's due this morning for finals. To my surprise the charger stopped working yesterday and did not charge my MacBook.. Thank you Apple!!

    Please rework this design ASAP...

I love my MacBook. I really do. But I despise this power adaptor because of its ridiculously high failure rate. I'm writing this review on a non-Apple device because my MacBook battery is dead. Why? Because the power adaptor failed, without warning, AGAIN (third one). Please, Apple, read these reviews. I absolutely REFUSE to continue shelling out $79 for this horrendously substandard product. Please fix this before you lose me back to a PC....

    Rethinking This Design Flaw

    PLEASE FIX THIS DESIGN PROBLEM!

Apple really needs to focus on redesigning this charger. I love the macbook and I've always gone back to a macbook no matter what but they really need to do something about this charger. Since 2007, I've owned a macbook and since then, I've paid for about 5 different replacements for the charger. I try to be very careful but in the end it fails and breaks at the ends of the charger. I'm getting really tired of spending upwards of $80 for each charger; just because my macbook has important information on it, I can't afford to just go with a generic brand fearing the worst might happen. So Apple, please fix this problem, you've had many years and countless complaints.

    Horrible.

I have had horrible experiences with these chargers. I have had my Macbook Pro for about 4 years, and ive gone through probably 4-6 chargers. The last charger i got, I wrapped the parts that usually break in electrical tape. Today, it broke again. I have to get another because if not, I cant charge my laptop, but I would give it 0 stars if I could. Bottom line: These chargers stink, and break often.

Major fail - too expensive to replace with the more of the same Apple junk

Apple blew it with this one. Extremely weak design. Hard to not have a negative opinion of this item. Complete fail and they should have recalled this adapter and replaced it at their expense. Fat chance right?
While the failure is not rare, it's less common with Apple where you just pay more. Isn't that their hallmark?

Finding it hard to keep loving you, Apple.

I have been an avid apple lover since the day I bought myself a MacBook Air after struggling with life with a Toshiba brick of a computer. Even when my iPhone electrocuted me I stayed staunch. I had just spent half an hour wrestling with this adaptor, trying to get it to charge my MacBook, when for some godforsaken reason, literally sitting on the adaptor was the only thing that would make it work (as apparently they get too cold and won't work, according to one Apple forum.) So imagine my dismay about fifteen minutes ago when I was about to fall asleep to the soulful sounds of Modern Family playing off my laptop when suddenly, I smelt smoke, and opened my eyes to see my adaptor was about to catch on fire. A thick stream of putrid smoke was billowing out of the square white box thing. Enchanting and mystical, yes. Reassuring and safe, no. I might just be a picky customer, but the threat of being burnt alive has the potential to sway my loyalty somewhat, and this plus the electrocuting incident means I will probably be investing in something less...flammable.

    65 pounds is a lot

Far too expensive for something that I need to replace because it wasn't strong enough. Can't buy the two cables separately, which is also annoying and wasteful.

    Awful and expensive

Really badly designed and adding insult to injury buying a replacement is horribly expensive.

Our laptop rarely gets moved around much; with such light handling the cable should not have failed.

I only wanted to give this product half a star, but the lowest you can give is a whole star....

This irritating hassle and expense is what puts people like me off apple products - esp now when there is a lot more choice in the shops

    Disappointing.

I love my Apple devices but I don't understand why they there isn't a better charger. The material coating is too thin and I have had 3 chargers break because the plastic melted! It's pretty ridiculous. I love my macbook but a $1,000 + computer should not have to have the charger replace every year!!

I wish I could use a negative star

I have TWO failed power cords and I'm expected to shell out another $80 but for yet another new one. This thing needs to be recalled!!

Poor build quality.. No more apple for me

Simply put, Apple keeps producing flashy products that don't hold up to normal wear and tear.

This cord failed me after a year of use, and during this time I was conscious of how these consistently fail those who have them and made sure I always wrapped up and appropriately packed the cord up after use. It still failed. The fact that apple is asking me to shell out $80 for a replacement is laughable. For a product this flawed, there should be a recall, or at least reasonably priced -and improved replacement parts offered through apple. Rather than fixing this problem and supporting their clientele it seems apple just wants to milk us by forcing us to buy one at a ridiculous price, else lose the function of an expensive computer. I'll grab an aftermarket replacement before giving another dime to this company.

As a consumer, this was just the last big disappointment for me regarding my feeling toward, and loyalty to apple. It's safe to say my next computer will be a PC, and I'll never go back to apple again.

    Worst quality

the worst quality of apple products... is the charger for the macbook pro. Lasted for about 16 months, and it's super expensive to replace. Very unhappy with their adapter quality. The wires broke off right at the base of the adapter :(

    Bad Plastics

After all the problems with the G4 series adapers I was really hoping you would get it right this time. Nope. Same issues. The intersection points on the adapters fail over time (fraying and splitting). I could understand a bit of wear at the insertion point for the laptop, but the terminals failed at the same rate, (the damage was identical on both ends of the adapter). I am not one of those people who pull the adapter out of the wall with a yank, most of the time my adapter stays plugged into one place. To me that means the plastics used were inferior (eroding and changing color). At $79 to replace, this feels like a kind of extortion. Very unhappy loyal customer.

    Really bad quality!

I love my macbook but every 6 months I need to buy a new power adapter because the cable breaks. And it's not the cheapest of cables. Every time I go to the Apple Store to buy a new one I feel like buying another computer brand altogether. This is not up to Apple standards!!!

Terrible! 3 Chargers in 4 years...

I have had to buy 3 charges in the past 4 years... All of them keep ripping on me and eventually just stop working. At $85 incl tax, per charger, that is a high and unreasonable cost to pay - especially as I'm having to buy a new one almost every year!!!!!! If the chargers would last, they would be great, but they don't - so big thumbs down.
