    Unusually shoddy for Apple

I have had my macbook pro since 2010, and during this period I have been through 3 of these chargers (luckily the first 2 were through my AppleCare). I am ALWAYS careful with my charger, winding it up carefully when travelling with it, and unplugging it when done charging. Poor work Apple.

    Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter

I had to purchased another 60W Magsafe Power Adapter today. This is the 3rd Adapter I had to purchase in 2 years. Apple you need to improve on the quality of the cables on the power adapters you manufacture !

    Broken again

This is the third time that this Mac power supply has broken. It is always the same problem: the connection between the thin cable (from the computer) and the adapter (right at the adapter) has torn. I wiggle this to re-connect the cable and the current. Occasionally, as expected, there are sparks between the two torn parts of the wire. This has been a problem in the past for me and thus was incredibly careful when handling the adapter. I want to look for another manufacturer of the adapter since I do like the Mac computer.

Weakest link in a great product

the macbook has served me well, but the charger is terrible quality and the price charged is egregious. the T-style was actually much better than the L-tip in terms of usability and lifespan.

    A laptop without a charger...

I'm a student, saving up for a Mac Book Pro was a struggle enough now i have to replace the power adapter constantly! Not only that but to have them just rip and break all the time means that I can't hand in my work! Thanks for making my academic career that much more of a struggle Apple. Thank you.

would give 0 stars if I would

I've had 2 of these. The insulation on both near the connector to the laptop started falling apart in less than a year on both. I've got an appointment with a freaking genius on tuesday - if they don't replace it I'm going to scream. Plus, why do they cost so much anyway? Especially if they don't last anything like a reasonable amount of time? And going by the other reviews here, this is a known problem, Apple. Looks like you're out of ideas on this one. If the next power cord I have does the same thing, my next laptop is going to be a thinkpad.

1500+ bad reviews vs. -200 good? Yes, there is a problem!

The original T style adapter quit working after about a year. I was lucky enough to get a free replacement with the new L style one. From day one I have hated the "sticky" insulation on the new cords and now the insulation on the DC cord, about 2 inches from the L plug, has split and exposed the wiring inside. So, I am now in the market for a 3rd adapter in about 2 years. Come on Apple, more than 1500 1 and 2 star reviews vs. less than 200 4 and 5 star reviews? There is a problem with this product!

    On number 3

I have had my MacBook for just over a year and on my third charger. The last two sparked, and got extremely hot! The last one sparked and got so hot the plastic melted on the charger!!! I am not sure that I will buy another MacBook even though I love apple products!! Seriously, design a new one before something tragic happens! I'm glad it happened when I was home!!!!

    DO NOT MIX AND MATCH

So first of all this is a battery charger we're reviewing, it should not have this many bad reviews it either works or it doesn't the rest of it is how well you take care of your things.

One thing Apple won't tell you though is some parts are just not compatible with other parts just because Apple likes to upgrade things and end up overlooking what is not being mentioned. Chargers especially. If you have a MACBOOK and are using the MACBOOK PRO charger, this will drain the MACBOOK'S battery. If you are charging a MACBOOK PRO with a MACBOOK charger this will kill the charger. DO NOT MIX AND MATCH!

These chargers are made specifically for that computer model, so next time you purchase a charger or battery make sure you look up the model number not just the style of your computer.

This will be my third purchase in three years.

I'll wobble the adaptor until i get that red light, sometimes it will randomly go off again and i'll have to play around with the cord to find that sweet spot... until now. Its gotten to the point where wriggling don't work. Which leads me to the apple store to buy the adaptor or alternatively head to ebay to get a cheaper knockoff given that the shelf life is anywhere between 3 - 12 months anyway.

    Worst design ever award

FOUR count them FOUR of these terribly designed power sources in FOUR years. Given that they cost about 100 bucks a pop, that's almost half the cost of the computer, AND the last time I argued for a free replacement, it took me hours of my time, a lot of anger, and an encounter with mac people that left me frustrated and shaking my head.

Mac should replace these cords free of charge without the high drama required to get them to admit that the cord design is faulty, that they've made a terrible mistake, and that it's insane to charge 80 bucks for a cord.

at the very least, they should charge no more than 20 bucks for a replacement. The bad energy I gather up every time I think about this stupid charger issue is enough to make me decide against replacing my computer (which I'm planning to do soon) with another mac.

I hate it when a company makes a bad product design and then doesn't admit it.

    Magsafe power adapter

Apple should have NEVER changed the design for the magsafe power adapter. The whole reason behind the magsafe technology was to prevent your computer from being thrown off the desk if the wire were to get caught and tugged. These new magsafe adapters do not release your laptop as easily. Also, you are forced into plugging with the wire going behind your computer. The old power adapters allowed didn't block the extra usb space. Apple PLEASE get on this!!! I would have given it LESS than one star, but I wasn't able to.

I'm on Adapter Number 3 now

The adaptor is horrible. It does not last long at all. I've had my Macbook Pro since 2010 and I've already had three adaptors. $80 for an adaptor is absolutely ridiculous especially since it can barely last longer than two years. That price needs to come down to the $30-50 range.

    Eh...

Reading other reviews it seems I get a much better life out of my chargers than the average person, but that may be because I baby them. WAY overpriced for the quality, especially compared to other Apple products. I'm happy to pay for quality but this is definitely not that. Great computers, horrible chargers.

    Not good Apple

I have a MacBook Pro (15), and not too long ago bought one for my wife. I love the computer, but hate the charger. The adapter is way too expensive $80, come on Apple you must do better. If you don't want to fix the problem, then drop the price, I think $30, or $50 will be better than spending $80 for a charger that don't last long.

    Horrible Chargers

I have bought 3 of these $80 chargers in the four years that I have had my laptop. I love Apple like I'm a crazy fan & am highly devoted. But I'm a college student now who needs to save money.

    Terrible, terrible product

When we bought our Macbook Pro, I expected it to be a high quality product with a long trouble-free experience. Afterall, it cost 2-3 times as much as other consumer notebook computers we had from HP that endure much harsher treatment including use by children.

Aside from the malfunctioning keyboard, and battery going dead, the biggest problem that Apple continues to provide such a poor product in its magsafe power supplies is an entirely different issue. We have now gone through three supplies and need a fourth. We try and treat them as gingerly as possible, but they still fray. I expected the MBP to be a high-quality product with good long-term reliability. The power supply is the worst of the issues.

Very disappointed in Apple. You get the look and operation right, but the aesthetics apparently come at the sacrifice of quality. I would leave the rating to 0 stars on the magsafe adapter if I could, but I must give it at least one star to post the review.

    Worst ever

Mac laptop power supplies have always been the poorest part of the Mac laptop experience. This one is the worst there has ever been. At the lightest touch or pull it becomes detached and you are running on battery power. You have to constantly check it is still plugged in place. If you have the laptop on your lap the slightest move dislodges the magnetic tap. This can happen twenty times in a day's work. Really Apple ought to have rethought the design of this before letting it out on the world. Only way to make it work consistently is to tape it in place.
If I could give zero stars I would.
