14 Months gentle usage and Broken

Got the charger with my new laptop about 14 months ago and have been very gentle with it. always wrapping the cords according to the instructions on the apple website and still have the cord separating from the block and have to wiggle the cord to get any charge. it's hit and miss and as someone that works from home, office and classroom, not having guaranteed power is a huge issue.

Reading the other reviews on here, I see its not a new issue or something apple isn't aware of; charging $80 for a replacement about every year is insane.

Thinking about a pc for my next laptop.

    This is completely ridiclous

the point of making a genuinely good product is that everything in its entirety works. this is the third time I have had this issue of having to replace my power adapter - both the plug and the long adapter dies out.

does anyone at apple customer service read these reviews!? it is ridiculous that i have to spend 80 dollars on an adapter 3 times in the course of 3 years. it seems that these adapters coincidentally decide to burn out right after the manufacter's warranty ends.

your customers are NOT HAPPY. READ THESE REVIEWS!

    Short life

I have this charger with machine. After exactly one year and a half, the charger dead.
And it sold 80 dollars! What else can I comment?

    Why.

You really need to do something about your chargers. I'm about to buy the 3rd charger for this computer. With the old T style charger, the cord sheared off at the box. I rewired it because i couldn't afford to pay the ridiculous $80 for a new one. When I finally did obtain the new charger (with the new lay flat style), it is now shearing off right at the part that connects to the computer. I'm starting to get a bit tired of this. For as large and "technologically advanced" a company as you are, I would think that you would be able to come up with a more durable solution for your chargers. Shame on you, apple.

    Poor

You look online and see poor reviews on 3rd party chargers but at least they don't cost $70-80. My charger breaks down without reason after about a year a half; it's clockwork.

    Cable Frayed

As with the other reviewers, the cable breaks right at the power brick, but worked fine before it broke. It costs way way to much money to replace economically.

If I could give negative stars (would that be a black hole?) I would...

I'm about to go and buy my 4th charger in 2 years. That is a big design flaw Apple! Do something! Do you read these reviews? Nobody likes this thing.... It spends most of it's days plugged in, attached to my laptop, it doesn't travel, it doesn't get flung around. I'm a 54 yr old woman that works from home.

It begins by the rubber sleeve the cord is housed in starts fraying near the L connector, then it spreads up the cord, crumbling as it goes.

THIS IS DANGEROUS. THIS IS EXPENSIVE. Yes, I was yelling.

I am now going to go and spend $80 dollars on something I hate. This does not bode well for this long time Apple devotee, I'm jumping ship on the next laptop if you guys don't do something. I paid a premium for a well designed product and world class customer service.....::sigh::

Cable sheething went soft and started to crack.

After a little over year of use, during which I was very cautious to never bend the cable in any harsh angles, the sheeting starting going soft and eventually crack. These cracks have been spreading down the cable over time. When I took it into the store they said I should buy a new one. Very disappointed given the price of the product and the fact that the power adapter that came with my first Macbook lasted four years. I genuinely hope this problem has been solved as it could discourage me from buying a Mac in the future.

    Poor Quality

Power adaptor cord finally wore/broke in two after 9 months. I don't expect things to last forever, but 9 months? There goes another $80... (Or should I buy a counterfeit one for $15?)

Nice, but my DC cords ALWAYS wear through

I've been using adapters of this style since the original (2006) black MacBook, and while they have excellent industrial design and are clever and beautiful like everything that comes out of Apple, the thinner DC cord coming out of the transformer block is the product's achilles heel. It will wear through, no doubt about it - and even faster if you bend the cable sharply to wrap it around the fold-outs "as intended." I'm about to order a replacement adapter for my 4-year-old MBP13 due to this problem. I've seen it enough times that I'm ready to call it a "design flaw," even in front of Ive himself. Sturdier construction at this critical point would be wonderful, as everything else about these adapters seems perfect - as does everything else about the laptops that outlive them.

    Randomly Breaks

Mine just randomly stopped working one day. I had the charger for about a year, now I have to spend another $80 for absolutely no reason. I love apple products, but seriously this is absurd.

    Faulty design

The magsafe adapter isn't tough enough to withstand even a few months' use. I use my laptop for work and must constantly coil the wires to carry with me. I've had three adapters die in the same way: the rubber coating splits and the wires fray where they enter the adapter. This is very dangerous - had it spark once. Having gone through this the first time, I took extra care not to pull on the wire or twist it up too hard. No matter what I do, constant use is simply too much for this piece of equipment.

    Horrible quality

I love my macbook pro, it was pricey but I splurged and spent my hard earned money to buy it. Fine, it works great. But, I am about to go out and BUY MY 4TH power charger. The things are $80 dollars a pop and they are completely garbage in terms of quality. The thin flimsy cord frays and breaks and you're lucky to get a year out of one. Unbelievable. How can one of the wealthiest companies in the world put out such a bogus product and not fix it. Do they not care about the customer? I just can't stomach spending the time and money to buy another. If you're going to sell such a low quality product fine.. but not for $80.. $20 max is what it's worth. End rant.

    I am MADDDDDD!!!!!

SERIOUSLY this is my second magsafe that gets broken within couple months of using it....It would be better if you start making a new design I've had my macbook pro for 2 years and it's still performing as if it was brand new but the adapters arghhhhhhh I hate my life right now since I have an EXAM in 3 days and I can't use my laptop becuase the adapter is not workinggggggg!!! Good job APPLE!!!!!

    Going on my 5th charger

This charger doesn't even deserve one star. I've had my laptop for approximately 4 years and have gone through 4 chargers so far. Completely unacceptable.

    Awful, very unreliable and overpriced

I've had to replace this power adapter twice in a few years. It's way overpriced; please change the design!

I thought it was only me....

So I came to this page wondering if I was the only one with horrible luck for Mac chargers... turns out I'm not!

This is the third charger I am going to have to buy. My second one died on me a few minutes ago and I am using what I have left on my battery to write this review.

It's ridiculous how much they charge for such bad quality!

    Absolutely Terrible

I am currently on my second cord. This one barely made it 6 months before the wire started to fray. I am completely disgusted. Not only is it annoying not to have a properly functioning power cord, its unsafe and completely ridiculous that I have to spend another $80 to replace it. I don't understand how apple can provide this product in good conscience to consumers. It is especially frustrating considering that it seems like a simple design flaw.

Why does this product still exist?

Apple, have you even taken a look at these reviews? It's outrageous how many people are having to replace their charger. Even with a 4 month old charger, it will turn off when jiggled. It's time to rethink your charger, unless of course this is all intentional and you take pride in charging Apple Users a semi-annual fee of $80 to continue to operate a Macbook (and if that's the case, you're criminals). Release a new and improved charger that will work after a year (hey, why not even try 4 or 5 years of functionality?). And to make up for this excuse of charger, why not set the price a little lower.

Cord works but casing becomes frayed

For the most part the L-shaped adapter works perfectly, it's lasted me two years so far since it came with the Macbook, but what I've been having issue with is the casing around the cord. The power is still carried to the computer but the plastic casing around the actual cord (not the L part) constantly is breaking apart. Maybe next time use a sturdier material than flimsy plastic because I carry my power cord with me everywhere and it seems wrapping it up with the square portion of the power cord causes it to eventually break apart. I've got more masking tape on the cord than it came wrapped in. If you want to keep selling these things for $80, maybe make sure it doesn't break apart. Many people with MacBooks are university students or working professionals who carry their Macbooks with them, we need something that can handle travel.
