    Mac Charger

I love my Macbook Pro but the charger doesn't last long. I have had my laptop for a year and a half and the charger has already "sliced". I love that it is magnetic, but if you charge your laptop with the wire going straight down toward the key board it turns a brownish color from the heat coming from the usb ports, which can cause issues. If you have it going in the opposite direction it curves toward the left causing wear, which causes it to "slice" over time.
These chargers are expensive to replace.

Can we have negative markings please?

Apple - you don't need yet another review to tell you how awful your adapter is. Neither do customers. But maybe, just maybe, if our numbers continue to swell, you will listen. Besides ripping us off, you are also contributing exceptionally well to the world's environmental problem. And many of this electronic waste heads to developing countries. Even better! (Sarcasm intentional).
I am onto to my 7th adapter now for a Macbook Pro 13 inch that I bought in mid-2010. Since I cannot afford to buy another laptop, I am going to stick with Apple. Which means I will replace the 5th charger that has come apart (frayed wires, I lost one at an airport). Guess what? This means I can't afford to buy your iPad. I keep setting money aside for your adapters. You are losing customers in more ways than one.

    Suggestion for improvement

I don't know if anyone from Apple reads these reviews but in case anyone does, it would be much less expensive to replace just the cord and connector rather than having to replace the adapter every time. Rather than making the connection on the power side, which probably never breaks, make it on the computer side of the adapter, and just sell that cord and magnetic connector separately. That way the replacement cost would be much less and people wouldn't be so upset about having to buy a new one so often. For the record, I'm on my second one this year and it's only June.

    3 frayed adapters

This product is absolute garbage. Can we get a class action or something? I have gone thru THREE adapters. ALL of them have frayed just below the sleeve and magnet. I took the chord to the Apple Store in Greensboro, NC and the manager looked at me with a straight face and said that three frayed chords is MY problem because, according to the "genius," I didn't wrap the chord properly when not in use. I told him about the numerous complaints on apple.com and he said customers complain about everything. To be fair I have Apple Care so they have replaced the chord each time (last time I had to mail it in because the manager refused to replace the chord). Shame on Apple!

This is my first and last apple computer! I've had to buy 3 chargers!

I will never spend money on another Apple laptop or computer in my life. The chargers are worthless and only last 1 year! I'm tired of apple trying to take our money and not listening to what we have to say. I won't pay the $80 for a charger that's junk.

I received my apple laptop for college 4 years ago and this is my third charger... what the does that say? The quality is worthless... don't buy this!

Apple shame on you! You lost a customer.

    Biggest cashcow ever

I've had my Macbook for a little under 4 years and I'm on my 7th adaptor (4th L-shaped one) and will soon be purchasing my 8th. I only bought this 7th adaptor a few months ago and for the last month, it worked intermittently and now it's stopped working entirely.

I share the same frustrations and disappointments of all the other negative reviewers on here (read: I am furious) but Apple knows that its customers will continue to buy their shoddy products, and therefore, they know they don't really need to change anything.

I really like my Macbook but $80 twice a year is quite a big investment for a product that depreciates as much as it does.

    Dangerous, expensive Unsafe Adaptor

Today finally my 3rd Adaptor broke down. I t started melting at the cable 5 weeks after I bought it, as did my others. I don t live in a very hot climate or I am carless, but I have to use my Laptop for longer times. Now I find very concerning that this thing could lead to fires, so I will have to look for better ways to charge my Macbook.

Absolutely fine - don't know what all the other reviews are talking about!

As far as I can tell, this is exactly the same power adapter as the one you receive in the box when you buy a MacBook Pro. I asked at the store for them to compare them for me and they confirmed that they are the same.

I'm not sure why all of the negative reviews, I can only imagine that the reviewers bought the chargers for their laptops with the wrong wattage.

The adapter comes with a year guarantee also.

I'll report back in a couple of months with an updated review.

    unacceptable

Have had to replace the power cable twice in less than 2 years due to the faulty design where the wire attaches to the magnetic head. This is completely unacceptable given the price of the cables. Unless this gets fixed, will probably not purchase a Mac laptop in future.

    Unacceptable!

I have been using macbook since 2006 and bought another macbook in 2010. I have bought a total of four magsafe adapters (one T shaped and three L shaped) during this period of time! And I have got one claimed under warranty. Almost an average of 1 per year! This is really ridiculous as the macbook lasts longer than the power adapter. Be prepared to waste more money if you wanna be a mac fan :-(

    TERRIBLE

Worst charger of all time. I have had to buy 2 new ones already since I got my 15 inch MacBook Pro back in March of 2013. The laptop is great but the charger horrible. And it is way over priced for how terrible it is.

    I feel cheated by Apple.

WOW. After reading these reviews I have come to see that I am NOT losing my mind in thinking that my one-year-old macbook cord (bought with my computer) has already "bit the dust". I went Apple, after years of being strictly PC, because I thought Apple was a superior product. I'm honestly starting to rethink that. Lower the ridiculous $79 replacement for starters. If we have to be buying a new cord every year that's ridiculous. I have a five year-old HP whose power cord I have NEVER had to replace. Improve this Apple or you're going to turn away a lot of new customers. I know I'm already turned and now stuck with my $2000 investment!

    Poor Design!

I'm going on my 4th 60W MagSafe Power Adaptor since I do not have an alternative for my MacBook and MacBook Pro. I do enjoy Apple devices and accessories, although they always seem to break often.

    60W MagSafe Usage Review

I use Macbook Pro 13-inch 2008 Model. The first 2.5 years of using it, didn't face any problem. After 2.5 years, the jack of 60W MagSafe power adapter used to get extremely heated up while I used to do any powerful work(Photoshop & Illustrator) / or multiple work.
At a point I had to start shaking the charger port quite a few times to get the red light (charging) . As the port gets heated up, I thought the problem was may be with my laptop or its battery or the port. This problem continued for 7-8 months when suddenly 1 day it completely stopped working. No shaking could fix it. Then I went to an Apple store in my country and tested my mac with a new charger. So the problem was with the charger, and compared and found that , Due to extreme heating, one of the very small thick pin inside the charger jack melted down (now it cannot touch the Mac port and so the charger doesn't work any more.... ) .
Other users should be aware of this heating issue for which I posted this review. Still a proud Apple user :)

    Power cord is the worst

The cord only last a year I am going on my third one and paying $80.00 for a cord that only last a year sounds about right for Apples money hungry don't car for their customer attitude. I think that when it charges it heats up and weakens the thin cord going to the computer were it connects to the big box. This last one I bought I was really careful not to be rough with it and it still broke in the same area as the last one. For $80.00 dollars this should last more then a year.

    Incredibly disappointed

This charger lasted me six months before falling apart (which, based off of the reviews I've read, I feel lucky it lasted that long). Now I have to buy a completely new one at nearly $80, a ridiculous price for something that works so poorly. The L-shape is to blame for splitting the cord, too. Bad design and awful price.

    Does't Last + Expensive!!!

I have a mac book pro which i bought in 2011 for $1000+. This power adapter just died yesterday and I am extremely frustrated. Took it in to the apple store, the "tested" it and it was indeed dead. They couldn't tell me why it died or what component inside caused it to fail. The also said it was not repairable. All the "genius" bar could tell me is i could buy a new one for $90. They could not replace mine because my laptop was out of warranty. I have had this adapter for less two years. This is a poor product. By reading all the negative reviews it seems like they should be recalled. Buyer's beware.

60W MagSafe Power Adpater - Redesign needed!

I own a MacBook Pro, an iPad, an iPod, and an iPhone. You would say I am a Mac fan, but this power adapter is by far the worst designed item I have encountered. I understand that compared to other laptop power adaptors, this is lighter and thinner, but the thinner half of the adapter (that connects to the laptop) is too flimsy, small, weak, and poorly designed. Plus, Apple does not offer to replace half of the two part adapter, instead it costs you a whopping $80 + tax.. Disgusted.
