Horrible product, especially for the price!!!

The brick gets really hot when it's charging and stops working if left plugged in. Eventually it stops working all together even if you seldom use it. You know it's a shoddy product when it stops charging altogether after a year of actually using it.

For $80, I expect at least some level of quality control. I'd say get third party, they last just as long but at a fraction of the price!

    What garbage

I've been through two chargers in a year. Very disappointed to know this isn't a fluke. All the chargers on Amazon have low ratings and terrible reviews as well. Do something Apple PLEASE!!

Badly in need of quality control

The design of these chargers is great. They look nice and charge your computer. Thats where the positives stop. I've been through four chargers over the life of my 4 year old macbook pro. They WILL stop working, or the rubber covering will fray away leaving metal wire exposed. These are absolute trash. I'm writing this review on my dying laptop waiting YET ANOTHER replacement cable. If only Microsoft made Apple compatible chargers....

    come on

seriously apple, this company need to design a better charger or make the current charger cheaper. 80 dollars is to much. 1 star

    Jeez Apple,

I thought you put out GOOD products. Judging from the overwhelmingly negative reviews of this product, I really have to rethink my loyalty to your brand.

    Preplanned Obsolescence

Buying my fourth replacement in eight years. These things are way too expensive, and it's so painfully obvious that they're only designed to last two years. I wish there was a 0 star rating, 1 just isn't low enough.

Solid, until it's time to go...

Love my MBP 13"! The MagSafe ran like gold until today, when it decided to die on me. A suggestion to Apple, put a shock-mount on the ends of the cables that allow it to flex so it won't get damaged. My assumption is also my brick is dead...

... will have to get a new one but totally going to be worth it, as this machine is my life.

    Poor and unreliable

It's ridiculous how short of a life these things have. For something so expensive I'd expect it to last longer than two years. The design is nice, the magnet is helpful, but overall I am not satisfied.

    Built in obsolescence

I am going on my third replacement, there are two points where the wiring is very fragile, no matter how much you take care not to bend. Really frustrating that Apple charges so much for these replacements, and a strike against their good name that the cords are so fragile. The magnet is great, but if you can't get power to your Mac then all the cool gizmos in the land won't get you online.

    Great idea!

Love the magnet connection! Easy to pop on and off. I have had it for 1 1/2 years and no issues or need to replace (luckily it seems from others). My daughter has had her Macbook for a year and her cord has lasted too. So I'm not sure if there was a bad batch of orders or luck, but I'm completely happy!

You can add me to the growing list of broken Power Adapters

Couldn't believe my MagSafe power adapter cable broke (where it attaches to the square adapter). I have had my macbook pro 13 for a little over a year, so was very surprised to see this happen, plus the $80 for a new one is a bitter pill to swallow.

Apple needs a new design for this adaptor. I have had my macbook for 6 years, and have had to change my adaptor 3 times. Fortunately, I had the AppleCare, so it was replaced for free the first two times, but now that it has run out, I am forced to buy another one. This is ridiculous! I never had a problem with this as a PC user. OR at least give some directions on how to avoid damage to the adaptor!!!!!!!!

    power adapter

i've had my macbook pro for 2 years now and the power adapter has been playing up for a few months, today the end came off, i think its a disgrace that this vital part is a consumable item,i've read many complaints about past and present power supply cables and apple are just not getting it right.. i have laptop adapters that are over 10 years old and show no signs of failure, i now have to spend £65 on a new power adapter so i can use my macbook...not impressed, ive given it 1 star but only because i have to...if the next adapter fails in such a short time, i'll be going back to pc.

    The Poorest quality product

It's the poorest quality adaptor I ever have, broke just after one year. Kinds of quality is totally NOT worth such a high price!!!!!

Apple's suggestion that you buy an EXTRA one of this is hilarious: You'd better have an extra because yours might just stop working at any time. By the time I buy a new computer I will have spent the entire value of the one I already have replacing these chargers.

You have got to be kidding me!!

This is absolutley ridiculous. After being a convert to apple products because of reliability and features. I have now lost faith after going through 2 adapters for my macbook. And now with the let down in features with the iPhone 5 I am thinking about going back to a PC and Android based phone. Based on features, reliability and cost of ownership.

    Pretty disappointed...

Alright. I love my Macbook. And I'm very impressed with Apple as a company and the customer service is great every time I call or have any questions. However, my one disappointment is with the 60W Magsafe charger for my white 13" Macbook. I've had my computer since Oct. of 2009. After about a year and a half, I replaced the charger. Granted, I use my computer all the time. I'm a full-time college student--all online. Plus, I use the Macbook for my business as well as for personal stuff like media (music, movies, photos). The system is great. I'm always on the go so I must say, where the description for this charger says, "Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage," I feel the need to add a disclaimer. Where the thin cord branches from the Magsafe square, the perpendicular angle is the issue. It does not wrap and I am very careful with my stuff since I need it for about everything I do. Plus, the cost. I can't afford to be purchasing a new cord at this price when it is a design flaw! I'm very frustrated. It's another year and a half later and I'm replacing the cord again! Where the first cord simply started fraying at the connection point to the Magsafe, this second cord completely broke off--and I even reinforced it with electrical tape so it would add some structural support. Please fix it, Apple.

I have owned at least 8 Mac laptops, since they first came out. We bought 3 MacBook Pros at the same time - The adapters for the 13 inch ones (60W), the ones for sale on this page, have both frayed terribly at the Mac connection. BUT, the 15 inch Mac's (85W) adapter is just fine. No, it's not user abuse because we all use each-others, and I have never seen this happen to any Mac adapter cord! Plus, the fraying is in the same spot. Same fraying as the recalled T adapters... The 85W works fine with the 13 inch (and no, it won't charge faster), so buy that one instead!!! 85W has zero signs of wear.
