    Another negative experience

I have taken extremely good care of my cord/computer. I am on my third cord. This one is the flat magnetic bar that lays along the computer and I am noticing the difference in the material the cord is made from. Apple has changed the cords, thankfully, but to me that is an indication that there were problems with the previous design. Some compensation for this would seem appropriate considering the sheer number of repeated occurrences of this problem.

3 out of 3 have failed in 2 years

I've purchased 3 of these power adapters. In the past 2 years they've all burned out. That's less than a year each!

The really sad part is that the generic 3rd party adapter that I purchased at the same time as my MacBook Pro is the only one that's lasted all this time. It cost me $17 and it's the one that I've used most often. I could've had 12 generic adapters (that would probably still be working) for the money I spent on these genuine products.

I still love Apple computers and would recommend them over any other but I can't in good conscience recommend this power supply to anyone. You're better off purchasing 4 generics for the same price. :-/

    Pitiful

I've never had good luck with Apple adaptors. They tend to last a few months before dying. I've been through a lot over the years. This was the first one to start smoking before dying. Given the high cost of these adaptors it is unacceptable to have such a high failure rate.

$80! No frayed cord just overheated and stopped working.

Like how it connects and safely disconnects if you trip over the cord, but this is the second one I've had go bad in 4 years.

    Failed product

I have owned several MagSafe power adapters and they have generally failed because of fraying of the wire where it exits from the power unit. It is amazing that Apple has put on the market such a poor product and has not done anything about improving it.

    Flawless laptop; poorly constructed cable

Even with careful usage, the cord has frayed at the charger base, thus leaving a live wire fully exposed. This is an electrical and fire hazard. I've had the same issue with iPhone cables, including the newer Lightening connector. Apple should extend its quality focus to its cables.

    Time for a change?

Well as everybody said it frays at the connection point to the adaptor and that's really frustrating! I had a VAIO for four years and no problem with the power adaptor! But now after 1.5 years my adaptor is failing cause the cord is getting detached ! For God's sake it's Apple ! And I have to pay 80 dollars for a new one?
Puff ! Not cool ! Apple should make a change in the design ! SERIOUSLY !

    Poorly Designed

The metallic piece of the charger that connects to my Macbook charging port has fallen apart. It's rather shocking, considering that the sheer force of connecting/disconnecting it by magnetic force was enough to make it come loose.
Echoing previous comments - no matter how hard I try to avoid the bending and eventual fraying of the wire- it does anyway. Maybe it's time to revamp this product apple!

MacBook is great. Cord is the worst.

We are on our third charger in three years. Computer has been awesome but the cord always frays. Not cool, Apple. Not cool.

    Cord frays

I'd rate this 0 if I could. The cord frays and breaks open. Reading these reviews, I'm one of many with this problem. I guess Steve Jobs did not believe in strain reliefs. Or in user replaceable cords. Or maybe he believed in the recurring revenue from users like me who need to replace their power supplies.

    Very bad

We had to change 3 power supplies in 2 years. Worst product i've bought from Apple. Please fix the issues with this.

    A Lesson in Planned Obsolescence

This power cord is poorly designed and poorly manufactured. This morning, my fourth cord (in four years) decided to give up the proverbial ghost. The MagSafe connection frays, the insulation has melted...I'm surprised this isn't a fire hazard. Shame on you, Apple. The power cord issue alone is enough for me to reconsider purchasing another MacBook. This is your Achilles Heel, Apple. FIX IT.

    Seriously Apple?

Why is it that I have Dell laptop adapters that have literally outlasted the computers they came with, but I have to replace this $80 hunk of junk. about once a year? My current adapter is not only frayed, but the wires are literally burning and turning brown, and whatever insulator Apple has opted to use on pretty much all of its cables is garbage. I can't think of a single Apple device I own that doesn't have a frayed cable, yet literally every other tech company on Earth seems to have overcome this issue. How hard is it to make a wire that doesn't fray and fall apart? It is just ridiculous that such an otherwise strong product can have such an obvious Achilles heel.

    Not AGAIN!?

I am now looking at buying my 3rd charging cable! The first cable frayed (in the exact place many people here have mentioned) and my second one (brought only 8 weeks ago) just made a flash and gave off a burning electronic smell (from the adaptor box) and is now not charging my Macbook Pro.

Really not looking forward to having to buy a new one so soon! I was advised before moving from New Zealand to the UK that it would be fine to use and voltage would not be an issue etc.. :/

The cable cost $120 (NZD) and here in the UK it's about the same £65

    Disappointed.

3 power cords in 3 years

I've been through three of these power cords in as many years. They fail just a few months after the 1 year warranty ends. Apple really needs to address this issue.

    Burnt out

Mine has just burnt out too, leaving a black burn mark and a blown fuse - i'm nervous about buying another as it's obviously a hazard.

I wish I could rate it lower... POS!!

After slightly over a year of use, my power adaptor has stopped working. No reason. There are no frayed wires, nothing. It just doesn't charge the computer. There are no replacement plans for the cord, and an apple representative told me to dole out another $80 on a replacement cord. Terrible customer service, terrible product. I was really happy with my mac, but I'm not thinking its time to go to a more reliable company will less expensive parts or better customer service.

    Worst charging cord ever

This is my second charger. My first one was replaced since it frayed only a few months after I purchased it, I had to beg for someone to replace it without having to pay $80 for it. Now this one has frayed too. I don't mean it got weak and bent, it's a full on train wreck on the laptop end of the charger. I don't take the computer or charger anywhere outside the house so it's not because of the cord getting bent, it stays on my desk, or on my lap. The cord is just a piece of garbage. ALL THE OTHER LAPTOP BRANDS HAVE FIGURE THIS OUT WHY CANT APPLE DO IT!? I'm debating giving up on Mac after this one is retired, the accessories are not worth the price you pay for them.

    Great Idea, Bad Quality

Great designed product, besides the fact that your cord will fray and fall to bits, its inevitable. So when buying your macbook, just remember that every 12-18 months, you will be up for another $99 to replace your power cord because apple is too lousy to engineer a cord that will actually last like every other company in the world.

    Lame

Love Apple - but this product is horrible.

This product needs an immediate revamp.

I've electrical taped my magsafe power adapter several times but it keeps fraying.

    Thank you for your consideration.
