    3rd cord in 1.5 years!!!

    • Written by Elizabeth D from Timonium

I looked up these reviews because the cord snapped in half at the base again for the 3rd time in less than 1.5 years (plus a friend gave me her old one and that one too broke after a couple months). After the 2nd breakage, I was very careful and made it a point not to strain the cord too much or run over it with an office chair (which is what did the other one in), and yet, it too stopped working. It first didn't look like there was any fraying or breakage of the plastic, and I tried to preserve it by taping the end but then one day I took it out of my bag and the whole thing had just snapped off at the base. These things are so expensive -- $80, and it is ridiculous that they break so easily, especially for the price

Flawed design, ridiculous price, infuriating timewaster.

    • Written by Paul M from Brighton

Now on my third MBA 2011 charger in 3.5 years.

I always use the protective arms, put the charger in a padded bag, and avoid unecessary stretching or twisting.

And it still frays at the connection point between the power block and cord.

Of course, the chap at the Genius Bar says that he's "owned the same one for six years, this is definitely a usage issue and not a design fault". Showing him this list of reviews didn't help matters.

    Anyway, utter rubbish from Apple.

My 2nd charger already and it started to burn

    • Written by Steven N from Berkley

I'm already on my second charger within a year and it just so happened that the flawed design of the cable cracked again and this time it started to burn. I started to smell the very recognizable smell of an electrical fire, luckily I caught it before any major damage was done but the charged was scorched and began to melt. I don't mistreat or misuse my products ever, I still own a working and great condition first gen iPod. I love apple products but this charger has been a huge thorn in my side and refuse to pay $80 for another hunk of junk that is bound to fail and potentially burn down my home. I figured with all of the 1 star reviews this issue would have been resolved by now.

Changed it twice in a year!

    • Written by Celenk M from Ankara

İ have MacBook air and love it, but there is really a huge problem about the charger adapter for the computer, it works fine when it works, but suddenly it stops to working, i changed my adapter twice in a year, and the price is too much for just an adapter, the company really has to reconsider about the price policy.

    Awful design

    • Written by Antony J from Buckhurst Hill

I had this product for about 14 months and it no longer works. The awful design makes it inevitable to break, but why is it not being fixed? If this company is going to spend twice what it gains on technology to help the blind and deaf then surely the company can pay the small cost in comparison to fix the chargers. If you don't care about "the ROI" Mr.Cook then fix this issue immediately.

    Very disappointing

    • Written by Caroline W from Edinburgh

The first one in all fairness did last a few years but the most recent I have just purchased lasted just three weeks. Its way too expensive to have to constantly replace, if i had know this was going to be so costly I would have not bought my Mac air

My charger lasted exactly one year

    • Written by Alexandra C from Raleigh

I never had to replace my MacBook Pro charger after 4 years of use, and before then had a sony vaio and toshiba something, and those cords still show NO wear. I am careful with my stuff so this is upsetting.

Just bought my replacement after exactly one year for over $120 in the Cayman Islands.

The guys at the store recommended buying some electrical tape and wrapping the base of the thin cord to reinforce it (where one would wrap it around the prongs). They unfortunately see this too often. They also recommended first making a small loop, and then proceeding to wrap the cord around the prongs when storing the charger, to relieve any tension that would be caused by directly wrapping the cord.

    Very poor product

    • Written by DAMON G from LONDON

I think anyone who has owned a Mac laptop knows by now that the power supplies are woeful. It is only a matter of time before the thin cable and sleeving starts to split and the wire gets exposed and shorts leaving you with a dead unit. You have to wonder, is this designed in obsolescence? With replace power supplies costing £65 each and with so many reviews of how poor quality the product I think people will be able to draw their own conclusions. Unfortunately we are all captive consumers as there is no real quality alternative, we just have to stump up £65 each time our power supplies fail. You could perhaps forgive Apple if it was an interim issue, but this type of power supply has been in production for a long time now....come on Apple, please step up and address this issue.

    • Written by negin K from NYC

I think apple's accessories are big shame for Apple store! My MacBook charger got hot every time I charged my laptop and again it's broken! This is the second time I have to pay 80 $ for buying charger!! I'm wondering if the company even checks the reviews.? Having too many one star reviews is very disappointment for this product! I wish I had the option zero star to rate this product! And all others apple charger....

    Weak Cable

    • Written by Frankie B from Boarstall

The fine cable of this device has disintigrated in several places and at the price it costs you seriously need to consider a new design or making it a cheaper product. It does not live up to your description

    Why is it so bad?

    • Written by Peter F from Haderslev

It makes no sense to me that these chargers breaks so easily, my first charger lasted 2.5 years which i guess is okay considering i brought it with me in my backpack every single day.. but the one i have now will soon break, and i have only had it for about a year.. it just frustrates me that i have to spent money on this (not very cheap product) when i plan to upgrade my computer in half a year :(( i even tried to be gentle with the power cord this time around..

    Poor quality for the price...

    • Written by Douglas Glenn B from Brooklyn

I purchased my Macbook Pro in 2009. Still running, with some minor upkeep, but like so many users who have posted here, I'm on my third adapter. At $80, an adapter -- one would think -- would last longer than the laptop it helps to power. One wonders if Apple reads these reviews. As it is now, I can see why so many tech-consumers believe that computers, gadgets and their accessories are intentionally manufactured with short-life spans in mind.

    Going on my third adapter!

    • Written by Charles W from Escondido

You would think with hundreds of negative reviews about this adapter, Apple would realize there is a design flaw, an engineering defect.

These adapters don't last as long as they should. How about making them last as long as the MacBook computer that comes with it?!? In just a few short years, two adapters have failed and I am forced to purchase another one. Let's see how long the third adapter lasts, but I'm not expecting much.
