    Killed My Battery

This power cord frayed by the charger head after about a year of use, for absolutely no reason. The cord was not mistreated in any way. Before I was able to replace the cord, a few months, my Service Battery warning came on. My (Macbook Air 2011) battery life declined steadily from there. The battery was then "Replace Soon", even though I had switched chargers, and I needed to replace the $180 battery. This charger is horrible, it ruined itself and my battery. The fact that Apple hasn't addressed these issues is appalling. I'm switching to Windows and Android.

    Horrible, falls out constantly

The charger itself works fine if its sitting quietly at your desk hooked to a dock. But take it on the road and at every little bend of the wire too close to the plug and the thing falls out. I can hardly hold it in my lap for accidentally bumping the stupid connector and off it comes.

    Hate this product.

The MacBook chargers are NOT WORTHY of the Apple name.

I am a loyal Apple user and 99% of Apple's products are designed beautifully, which is why it is mind-blowing why Apple has not fixed the poor design on their MacBook Air power charger. I will summarize the big three items:

1). It is too big at the end unless you want to lug around the extension cord everywhere you go. It is so big it takes up two spaces on the power strip. You bought an air for a reason - so it is light. get a clue product manager who runs this product line!

2). It breaks due to bad design. The whole wrap around the brick design puts too much pressure and wear and tear on the cable at the end of the brick which over time breaks the wire off. This is really expensive to replace at $80 a pop. Please please fix this!!!

3). No short three pronged option. Again, have to use a two pronged version unless you want to lug around the ginormous extension cable.

Please forward this to the PM running this product line. You have a one star rating on your own website - is anyone listening to your customers?

Third Replacement of 45W MagSafe Power Adapter

I've just purchased my third adapter. I take good care of the cord but it just stops working after a year or so. There are no visible signs of wear and no kinks in the cord. This is a serious issue since there's no other way to charge the MacBook. I expect reliability from my Apple products as I rely on them for work and the adapter is the only item with which I've ever had a chronic problem.

If I wadded up the cord or otherwise abused it, I could understand but I've always been very careful with it. If there is a secret to extending the longevity of the adapter's lifespan I'd love to know it.

    Don't. Buy. This.

I've had my MacBook for 2 years. And everything has been fine EXCEPT the charger. The charger is complete trash. The rubber deteriorates. The wires fray. It stops working so quickly.
I've worked to take good care of the charger-- hardly ever taken my charger out of my home. AND IT STILL BREAKS SO QUICKLY.
This charger is worth nothing, CERTAINLY not the $80 they charge for it.
Apple needs to fix this NOW. I wish I could give this negative stars.

Died After 14 months of use

So the adapter for my Macbook Air has died after just 14 months of use. Judging from the reviews, this seems to be a normal occurrence.
Now, I just spent 80+ dollars on a brand new adapter. I hope I can get at least 2 years out of this one. If by some miracle, I do get 2 years use, it still means this thing cost me 40 bucks a year to use.

For a company that prides itself on the customer "experience", this sure is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. In recent months, I've already migrated to Windows Phone and a Windows tablet. Perhaps, I should just go all the way and just get a PC laptop next. All this coming from an ex-Apple employee too. Talk about being a detractor!

    Me Too!!

I've also had problems with the Air power cord. It has worked continuously for 4 years, but the covering on the cord started fraying almost immediately. I figured I must have pinched it or something and put some electrical tape on it. Then over time, it kept disintegrating and I'd add more tape. Finally it got so that about 1/3 of the cord was covered in electrical tape. I took it in today and they, while being polite, seemed to think that I had abused it or my dog had chewed on it. Neither is the case - it is just cheap, thin material. They gave me a new one for "only" $61, their cost. Lucky me! Needless to say I'm not happy with Apple. I've never had any other cord covering simply disintegrate!

Broke for the second time in a year

It's a shame for apple. It happened again: the wire had separated from the charger. And i now a lot of friends that have the same problem.

    I want a recall!

    Terrible. Poorly built. Will FAIL

These chargers are plain awful. They will last less than a year. Apple should be ashamed of this poor construction.

    Angry

I have been through 3 of these in 3 years. At this price I expect them to last years or forever. I will now be buying the much much cheaper alternatives

    Dies way too quickly

I love my Macbook Air 11" (2011). It's been a little over 2 years and it's still going strong. I wish I could say the same for the power adaptors. None of my power adaptors have lasted over a year. My second power adaptor has just failed me after becoming ridiculously frayed, and I'm on the Apple store website to begrudgingly buy my third.
My family have laptops from other brands older than my Macbook Air that get frequently used and not a single one of their power adaptors have needed replacing in the 4 or 5 years that they've been in my family, being used on a daily basis.
Now, my Macbook Air is far from ready to be trashed so I'll replace the adaptor, but $99 for a notoriously low quality product that I will inevitably have to pay for again next year? Talk about a scam.
It's both consoling and disheartening to see that there are already hundreds of negative reviews on this product and I'm not just an unlucky one-off.

    Poor quallity

Before I went on this page and read other reviews, I honestly thought something was wrong with me! Had my adapter for just 2 years and the cord broke near to where the connector to laptop is. I've fixed it with a cable tape but a month or two later it broke in a different place, just below the old one. Poor quality and a ridiculous price for a replacement!

    Failed... again

I have to purchase my 3rd charger in a year. This is the only apple product I have ever purchased that continues to be a fail.

    Absolutely Ridiculous

My first 45W MagSafe Power Adapter that came with my new MacBook Air stopped working just before warranty, got it replaced for a new one and I remember the guy wasn't very happy to do that.
Now just over a year just stopped working again, this is unbelievable! Why Apple doesn't take action and fix the problem which is clearly out there??? (like the time they gave free iPhone 4 cases when they realised they had failed with the antenna??)
I find that after you pay thousands for a Mac, then every year you should basically pay over 90$ to replace the power adapter…absolutely ridiculous!!!
    Think about that Apple!!!

    HORRIBLE

I've had my computer for two years and my charger has already stopped working. Not to mention I've had my iPhone for less then a year and that chord has begin to unravel. I just don't like the fact that I'm spending so much on these products and have to replace these pieces so soon. And the fact that its darn near 100 dollars.. Thats RIDICULOUS . Please invest time in making better chargers for your products instead of coming up with a new version of a product every year.

    Nice Chinese-quality product

But seriously, this product is horrific. It lasts about two or three months before you have to put duct-tape on it to cover up the fraying. And the great thing is, that's even taking into consideration that you baby it.

I realize that Apple doesn't even read these, but nonetheless I find it cathartic to express how bad a product can be from a company that makes decent products sometimes.

This is my third one so far. It has no business being this highly priced if it's such a shoddy product. To say I rate it a 1 is a mercy; this product doesn't even deserve it. I realize how trite the previous expression is, but really, words can't express how disappointed I am, like a father who finds out his son listens to Madonna all the time.

Can I lease a magsafe power unit for my mac air...

I absolutely love my Apple products, don't mind paying for superior products but does the magsafe charger really have to be close to 10% of the cost of a new Mac Air. (Cdn prices) Mac Air 11' base model is $999 and a local retail store is asking $94 for the charger so that is dam close to 10%. I'm looking for an after market or selling my first child for another apple 45w mag safe charger.

Your one of the smartest and creative companies out there, I'm sure you can improve the longevity of these chargers. Its all over the forums how bad these things perform. If you know anyone that wants a 5 year old well behaved kid, I'll consider a trade.

    Cheers..

    Good laptop, bad charger

Even with hardly any use, this power adapter stopped working. I'm using my Cinema Display to charge the laptop and waiting for a recall.

    Garbage

I have two macbook airs, and both chargers failed after a few months. I bought replacements -- one of them has failed too, after only 2 months, only charging when it wants to, mostly not at all.
also BTW, the price for the replacements is just stupid.
    Bad experience from Apple.

    Power cord issue

For those who have a problem with the cord not working after a period - Try cleaning (with a Q-tip or tooth pic) the end of the cord plug where it attaches to the computer and the plug on the computer. Dirt can become stuck to either of those and prohibit good contact. The plug on the computer is magnetic so small metal particles can attach to that. The cable itself is an extremely poor design. Apple and it's engineers should hide their heads in shame for letting this issue go on for so long. They were kind enough to give me a new charger just before my warranty expired last August but it's starting to look like that one is beginning to weaken. I extended the life of the original cord with electrical tape. Common people, where's your work ethic? Where's your sense of pride? When I do a job, I take care to do it well and I expect you to take care of the people who you are selling these "known" cheap power cords to. A product is only as good as it's weakest link.
