Great laptop let down by dreadful power supply

My 15" MBP Retina is now just over 2 years old and I am on my third power adapter. This is not a computer that is used every day - it comes out for an hour every Saturday morning to make some changes to a website. So many other people seem to be having unsatisfactory experiences with this product I'm surprised Apple haven't redesigned it and recalled older ones.
My main computer is a 9 year old white MacBook which is still on its original charger. Something is wrong here.....

Poor quality, 3rd power adapter so far.

This is my 3rd Power adapter since purchasing my 2014 MacBook Pro. The power adapter gets incredibly hot! The last two started to smell of burning and you could actually hear them fizzle inside before burning out.
As a potential hazard and simply been left unable to do my job, till i've coughed up another £80. As a professional user, the disappointment i have in the brand after being a loyal customer for 20 years continually grows.

    Poor Design And Expensive!

I leave my laptop on a desk almost all the time and even I'm annoyed at this adapter. Just moving it slightly will case it to disconnect from the laptop. The slightest nudges from the top or bottom unplugs it so easily. Every time I move the laptop elsewhere, I have to hold the charger in and make sure it doesn't disconnect. BIGGEST flaw ever! And it sticks out way too much. I didn't have a MacBook back when the first L-shape chargers were standard and wish they didn't change it to this one. Lastly, it's too delicate, and it's EXPENSIVE to replace or even have an extra for convenience. I don't even feel confident bringing this charger anywhere outside fearing it'll break.

    Works fine

No complaints, works as expected. Love the magnet and the quick disconnect design.

5 years old & just now frayed at adapter end

Have had my MBP since 2012; traveled to Europe, Japan and all over US frequently, so cords were jammed in tight. True confessions: I did wind the cord a bit tight at times. I lifted the adapter by the thin cord more times than I will admit. Dropped it. That being said, the cord performed very well for 5 years. I gave 4 stars only because it did fray....eventually and wasn't completely bulletproof against me!

    TERRIBLE

I'm on my 3rd charger in almost 3 years and once again I have to cough up $85 (tax included). For such a wealthy company, they sure are quite greedy to feed on our desperation for a charger that doesn't promise you a year.

    doesn't last long enough

The power cords for all Apple products wear out way too quickly... it is such a disappointment. I love my Apple devices and expect much more from the Apple accessories

If I could rate this 0 Stars I would!

    Buys Macbook Pro late 2014.
Charger 1 dies February 2016 - out of warranty.
    - Buys replacement -
Charger 2 dies May 2017 - of course, out of warranty.

What is it with these chargers... Not badly handled / hardly left the house, never wrapped to travel, not stepped on, jammed in doors, no fraying cord or exposed wires it still looks new!
Apple it seems like your chargers have an issue.
They fail AFTER warranty is up - which I guess is a good thing for you.

    Junk Product

Out of all the technology and design efforts put into Apple products, this has to be one of the worst. No thought was put into the cable material, the connection port and or the use of transporting this to be able to use your portable laptop for its intended purpose. Very sad that you buy a 2k computer, to get a piece of junk charger that breaks quickly. In addition, the cost of replacement for this product is ridiculous. For that price, you would expect a product that would last. Very disappointed and a continued display that Apple is losing its touch on quality.

Breaks so easily one would think it's made out of paper

The title says it all. It breaks so easily it's ridiculous. This is for a laptop that many want to bring with them every day. Try doing this and bringing this magsafe with you. I dare you. Count how many days it lasts. If it's over 100 days, you're as lucky as no other man or woman has ever been throughout the history of this earth.

    Truly Terrible Product Design

Sure, the connector sticks out way too far and frequently disconnects under ordinary use, for example, when you place the laptop on your lap. But the absolute worst design failure here is the cord itself.

I have never worn out a cord on any device I have ever owned... except this one. I've gone through at least seven of them. They just disintegrate, no matter how delicately you treat them.

In fact, with the one I got just four months ago, I made a point to (almost) never take the cord with me. But despite being nearly stationary for its entire existence, it's actually starting to turn YELLOW and deteriorate.

Seriously, Apple! Why do you stick with this fragile cord plastic? Especially when it's so high-friction that it seems to tangle itself. That's another big design fail but self-tangling seems trivial compared to self-destructing.

    Fire hazard.

I have had this adapter since I purchased my laptop about 5 years ago. As I take very good care of my things I was lucky not to have to replace it, but I always noticed that the adapter was fairly hot. Two days ago I noticed a weird chemical smell in the room but didn't think anything of it. Yesterday I noticed that my computer was not charging even if the adapter was plugged in. When unplugging my adapter from the wall I noticed that the smaller permanent cord end (the end that attaches to the adapter and not the end you plug in the computer) was burned and looked like it had caught fire. Thankfully I have hardwood floors in the room, otherwise it could have been much worse.

    TERRIBLE!

There's another 266 reviews I can see, and this product averages a rating of 1 star. That should tell you something.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro (11,5). This is my 3rd charger. First one melted the plastic inside the magnet AND the cord itself, the second one developed burned contacts inside the magnet and has damaged my MagSafe charging port on my machine (it eventually stopped working after only 4 months), and the third one - which is brand new - is sparking like mad every time I connect it to the MagSafe 2 port.

Apple really needs to solve this problem badly. Really disappointed about this - after all, it's a Eur3100 piece of hardware.

    CrapApple!

Would give this zero stars. Major fail. This accessory is rotten to the core Apple. To charge my laptop while you charge an arm and a leg ... for what? If Jobs saw these reviews he'd be all over this, and several heads would roll. Fix it, and then ship FREE replacements to every owner.

    Apple - FIX THIS PROBLEM.

I have been a user of Apple products since the 1990s. The design of this cable is FLAWED. As with almost all other reviews written by customers, I found the insulation substandard. I keep the cord in the SAME place and do not even disengage it very often and yet it's frayed and just stopped working (I assume because of the risk of electric shock!).

I have no issue with the magnet and the ease with which it disengages, if pulled. That's good. BUT why is the sheath around the wires so substandard? I never had problems with the previous cable durability. What is going on with Apple? It's not as if the company is fiscally strapped and can't afford to design and manufacture a descent product. FIX THIS PROBLEM! And give loyal Apple customers a good deal on a better cable when it becomes available.

OFF TO BUY A NEW ONE, I GUESS :(

This charger keeps overheating. One time, it actually got so hot it the plugs melted and bent to the side (becauae the power brick itself is really heavy). Now, my charger wont charge anymore (it has only been a 1 year and 7 months since purchase). Disheartening.

    Great Product and Excellent Design

The vast majority of individuals giving this product a poor review are not using it as intended! I went to the apple store to pick up a new one today because mine has gone missing.

I do not know how many times with my previous laptops that if someone were to trip over the cable, the laptop would come crashing down! With this MagSafe 2 PA, theres no need to worry about something like that. My MacBook is now 5 years old and my cable was in great shape!

To avoid the issues individuals post, just avoid wrapping it into a tight ball or yanking excessively hard hundreds of times. You should never do these things with any cable or cord from anywhere. Oddly, it won't break if you treat it like it is a cable/cord and not like it is rope.

    Common sense :)

One of the worst Apple products

I do not actually understand why is so BAD. They can make it much more repairable by letting all two cables be detachable. Praise Jesus for USB type C charging on newer macs!
