    Really weak. Really expensive. Non-ergonomic.

I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro Retina. My first adapter stopped working after 2 years, and my second stopped working after about 15 months. There was a tiny spark, so probably a power surge that it couldn't handle. I do take care of these things, but they should have some semblance of durability.
It costs about $100 in stores in the Philippines, and stocks are currently on the low. $100 is around a third of what many people earn in a month; it's a weekend out of town; it's a shopping spree; it's not one shoddy adapter.
The adapter itself is a horrible overheating square block attached to a thin spaghetti-like strand. People would ask me why I had an extension cord in my bag, and I'd say, "Try plugging this into a wall socket."
One day when my macbook retires and people ask me why I have a different machine, I'll tell them the charger sucked.

Overheat, expensive, and disposable. Not what expected for 80

I had to replace my charger because the wire just broke, I do take really good care of the cable but this disposable one will cost 80 dollars to replace! It overheats and when working on my lap it easily gets disconnected.

    Cable frays easily

Really awful quality cable, especially given the price. It literally just starts disintegrating after a certain period of time.

    This adapter is killing me

I have bought 2 power adapter until now and I am going to buy soon (tomorrow) . It is not durable. and I have not idea about the lifetime of the new item . The warranty is 1 year and its lifetime is about 14 months :) I am not kidding. I am talking about a person using his laptop for at least 6 hours a day. Anyway for apple this item is a shame. Anyway. I m losing my belief in apple.

    Great Charger!!

I'm not sure what the other reviewers have been doing with their charger but mine has lasted 3 years so far. Much better that the terrible ones I've had with PC's over the years. I can recommend from the other reviews that if you regularly charge you Macbook in 2 locations that you get 2 chargers as no cables like being wrapped up in a bag!

    Hate this cable

Mag Safe 2 is the worst charger I've ever had! Magnet is very weak and mine broke within a year. So I had to buy new one. I hope Apple will refund for it and change the design to the better one.

shocked at all the horrible reviews!

Wow! I can't believe all the hate for this power cord! I have no problem with this cord or the design of the magnet. The only thing I don't like about it is how hot it gets when charging. I've had my cord for the 2 years I've had this laptop, and the only reason I needed a new one was because my foster kittens chewed up the rubber and it stopped working. I don't like how expensive it is, but I come to expect that with apple products. This power cord works fine for me. No tearing, no fraying, and when the magnet comes off because I bumped it, I just snap it back on. No biggie.

    Don't bother!

Honestly...Some of the shoddiest excuse for a charger I've ever seen. I've gone through 3, yes 3 chargers in 2 years. That's £180 down the toilet. Of course Apple will say it's down to how you treat it, I treat my very well and it eventually dies within a few months...No visible damage, tears or burns, which is surprising as the power pack gets so hot I'm worried it will burn a hole through my couch. The charger alone is enough to put me off MAC's pretty much all Apple products, your phone chargers are awful too. If I knew what I know now 2 years ago I would not bother getting it and would have gone for a more reliable windows computer.

Deserves all the one star reviews.

As many, many others have stated, Apple's current Magsafe 2 Adapter is defective in design. I am careful to the of point of being OCD with my gadgets, yet I have had three of the Adapters replaced due to burnt out connectors, and even the power board in my Retina, because they eventually burned it out.
Now the same thing is happening with my second macbook Pro Retina. It has gotten so bad, I bought the older L connector MagSafe 85w Adapter, and Magsafe to Magsafe 2 Converter. Seems to work better, and if the connects start to burn, I can just replace the $10 converter instead of the whole adapter.
I am surprised there is not a class action against apple on the these adapters.

    Weak connection, flimsy cable

This is a very low quality product that is unfortunately the only one available. My original cable that came with my retina macbook pro is utterly mangled after two years of moderate use. I have resorted to masking tape to reinforce the weak areas where the wire has become exposed, but this is a lousy solution that should not have been required for such an expensive product. Also, the connection has always been temperamental and is now getting worse, not to mention how weak the magnet is on this thing... Its super annoying. I did not have such problems with the older version. Its like a downgrade. Please improve this thing Apple.

My adapter still works fine, but frayed within about a half year's use.

    What aesthetics???

Why is no one complaining about the huge perpendicular to the wall brick portion of this charger? Geez Apple, could you not have engineered a more elegant solution than this monstrosity? Here's an idea--why don't you design a brick that snugs up flat to the wall instead of perpendicular to it? Maybe include a couple USB ports as well. Now that's a killer app.

    Never had a problem

I've been a buyer of Apple products for years, 3 MacBook pros, 4 iPads & 6 iPhones. All there cables have lasted the life and probably longer of the product. I've always been carful with any cable leaving some slack when winding, having duplicate cables and chargers for work and home, so there's no wrapping and rewinding. And as for overheating never had it, may be there product is using the wrong rated charger.
So I'll stand up for Apple & say "jolly good show" if you look after it, it'll look after you. :-)

I Bought my Macbook Pro Retina 2015 less than 3 months ago, the charger just laid around at home. I didn't packed into a bag, or streched it, or pulled it.... there aren't any signs of physical damage. Today it simply stoped working. I'm so frustrated, I hope they give me a new one tomorrow at the store.

    Great product

This product has received a lot of bad reviews. Far too many for what it deserves. Personally I think that apple has done a fantastic job in the designing of this product: I love the magnetic charging that makes it effort less to insert in to the port and prevents you macbook from becoming dragged if the cable is tugged. The ability to change the cable size is another fantastic feature. However there are disadvantages including that the pricing is a little steep ( It should be reduced to £50). The white cable becomes dirty after a prolonged time. With all this being said my charger has endured 3 year of constant transportation and ravelling. At the end of this review I would conclude that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and the product is worth buying.

    Genuine Apple

I am writing this review to tell the world how superficial most of the reviews for this product are (or at least seem). To be fair the only star missing here is due to its price. I got my laptop in the winter of 2012 and the charger had absolutely no problem until a few days ago. What happened? I miss-packed my wire and the insulation layer slightly opened near the power box and it has a small angle at which it does not charge the laptop at all. I ordered a spare one for when this will totally break down. It really is about how you handle it. Wrapping the wire around the power box seemed to be a pretty bad idea as the tension built up and teared the insulation (the temperature had a role in this too, but that's understandable). I really like Apple's chargers, they do not tangle and seem to be pretty sturdy too. Just remember to take care of your stuff people and they won't last for only 2 years :P mine is almost 4 years old.
