    Awful Quality

I bought my top of the range Macbook pro last November (2013) and am delighted with the machine. It is beautiful and has worked flawlessly from day 1. I cannot understand why Apple have supplied such a beautiful machine with the shoddy tat that is the Power Supply. The cable began to fray after around 6 months and over the past couple of weeks the magnetic connector began to get extremely hot to the touch before simply stopping working over the weekend. This seems to be something of a theme with Apple products. I have had to buy at least 5 charging cables for my iPod classic. Apple equipment is extremely expensive (£65 to replace the Macbook power supply) is it too much to expect quality peripheries.

    Very disappointed

    Poor quality design

I am now on my third Power adapter for my Macbook Pro Retina. After 12 months the cable frayed and split next to the adapter. I took extra care with the second however after only 9 months the cable melted next to the adapter while the battery was charging and I was running an intensive 3D application. Fortunately it was replaced under warranty.

The adapter gets very hot while charging and running when the laptop is in use and the cable appears to be too thin for the max power consumption.

Apple need to up the spec. of the cable and improve the design of the adapter.

    Only lasted 1 year

disappointed that I've just had to replace my power adapter because it died on me. Same has happened to my business partner. No wonder these have such bad reviews. Come on Apple lift your game!

    Weak and Fragile

This cable is a design failure!

If you are using a laptop, there is a significant chance that you are a mobile person. That means you need to carry the cable with you for most of the times to charge the device. You may not have all the world's time to pack your cable and here comes the trouble: The end point of the thin part of adapter is so weak and fragile that eventually it frays and becomes useless!

I am surprised how Apple overlooked when they designed this adapter. I am sorry but you cannot present such non-durable adapters to your customers!

    Pathetic

What a woeful charger. Very poor quality and overheats at the drop of a hat. I got 4 years out of my old charger and it never even looked like breaking! After spending $2500 on a great macbook pro, I would have hoped that the charger would have lasted at least longer than a miserable 14 months. And $100 for a new charger? You have got to be joking. If I could rate this less than 1 star I would. This is the worst charger I have ever had the misfortune of using. For shame!

    Terrible Quality DC Cable

Product gets too hot and the DC cable split in normal use after a short time (less than 2 years) in light use. Clearly a product which is "not fit for purpose" but Apple refuse to accept responsibility. Disgraceful.

After 14 month every time I replace a fuse it blows up. Clearly badly designed and a disgrace when buying a mac book pro which doesn’t really come cheap. Not sure why I have to pay £65 to replace when it was clearly badly engineered. I would rate 0 star if I could.

    Wire covering always peels off!

I would buy another "brand" if possible. Im so angry that all my power cords plastic layer gets always broken.
I have always been very carefull when handling it and in no more than 6 months cracks appear in the cable.

This has been my 3rd macbook with the same problem.

Please apple look after the quality of this cables please!!!!

    Unsafe and Overheating!

Apple needs to take some major notes from Dell on how sturdy their chargers are, i've had 3 chargers since i got my Mac Book Pro, thankfully i have the apple protection plan and just get a new one without having to pay. That being said, on 3 occassions, the wires have come off and completely naked, and there's a burn stain from overheating, you can smell it. This is really unsafe! It's not about making the charger look cute, but really spend some time to design a quality charger that users can depend on...Really disappointing Apple!

    Rubbish

It dosent even deserve a one star rating, the insulation on the cable near the adaptor split after 18 months so I had to shell out $99 for a replacement and now after 9 months the replacement has stopped working. The insulation is not broken but you can see it has bunched up so the wire inside must be broken.
You pay top dollar for Apple products its a pity that you don't get the quality that you pay through the nose for.

    Absolutely Horrible Product

    1) The charger is easily disconnected form the laptop. Even a small brush of the hand is enough to do it.
    2) The rubber coating of the wire is easily frayed and this compromises the whole charger. It will stop working.
    3) The body of the charger gets unbearably hot, and so does the charger pin.
    4) The charger will randomly stop working, even is nothing is wrong. You have plug-unplug it several times to get it working again.
    4) A replacement for this charger is equally ineffective, and also very expensive.

    BEWARE!!!

OK I paid £2000 plus for Mac. Im proud to say I'm on my 3rd charger. These chargers are not fit for purpose.....Im not saying don't buy the Mac because of that because its only the charger I have a problem with.....Not good apple!!!

    Keeps failing

We have dozens of these at my office. The failure rate is incredible. 1-in-3 power adapters have failed in less than a year. Coming from Apple, I'm very surprised at the poor quality.

    Weak Cable

The thickness of the cable is too thin, Just by having the cable on the floor and accidently catching it with my chair wheel split the insulation and is showing the metal wire. Not Good

Not an improvement: can no longer my laptop in lap

I had the previous generation MBP, with the l-shaped MagSafe adapter, and loved the charger. It saved my laptop from being knocked off a table or desk countless times. I was excited to get the new, improved version of this charger. Unfortunately, the upgrade seems to be in most ways worse. It's much more easily knocked out (due in part to an apparently weaker magnet, and to the extra leverage provided by it's more protrusive shape), to the point of being extremely inconvenient. Using the laptop on soft surfaces, frequently causes the charger to be angled in such a way that it will connect intermittently or disconnect altogether. This can't be good for the charger, never mind how frustrating it is to plug your laptop in in the knick of time before it dies just to knock the cord out and have it shut down anyways. Most frustrating of all, I have a very hard time finding a position for the laptop in my lap that doesn't knock the charger out. There's irony in there somewhere. Other than that, it gets significantly hotter than the previous version, and the material of the cord feels "cheaper" (although this might just be colored by my other experiences with the product.) Hopefully they'll release an l-shaped charger compatible with this generation of macbook, but knowing Apple, that seems unlikely.

    ANNOYING. Knocked out too easily

The head of the charger protrudes from the socket, and with the weakest magnetic force keeping it in place this thing gets knocked out. A LOT. You would think the designers would improve upon last generation's design, but it's only gotten dumber.

    bring back the old!!!

This is possibly the worst change apple have made to their computing products... you literally pick your laptop up while it's on charge, and out comes the flimsy T shaped cord.... most irritating thing, especially when purchasing a new macbook hoping for it to be tip top in every aspect!!

bring back the old chargers that actually offered some support and held in place which is their only job!!!!

Also, not sure why i can't give a big fat 0/5 stars...? they should fix that too

    A downgrade...

This Magsafe 2 connector is a tremendous stepback in design and functionality. The original Magsafe was great because it didn´t stick out and protuded to the side, but was sleek and the cable went back and around the chassis (dependable which way you stuck it in). This new one could be cutting edge in 1995. I am constantly knocking it off its socket, and magnet seems to be weaker as well. Jobs would NEVER allow this horrendous redesign. The excuse of changing it due to their new thin macbook retinas is something i refuse to believe. CHANGE IT BACK!!!
