Does the job but breaks easily

Ive broken 2 of these $100 dollar charges while taking good care of them. They fray very easily, come on apple.

Not as bad as others believe...

While Apple's MagSafe chargers compromise a few reliability details in the name of design I believe that if people are just more careful they won't fray or damage the cord.

The magnet is as strong as it needs to be. Most consumers will not remember when iBooks and Powerbooks used a headphone jack style charger. These would easily break into the port and require charger board/ logic board replacements.

Two pins look burned not charging

It seems like the pins aren't connecting, two look dark like they are burned, The light turns green like it is charged or charging and then it doesn't charge. I've had apple mac products for 20 years, my old computers worked flawlessly for 6+ years before I had to replace but my 17 inch Macbook pro died at 2 1/2 years old and then I got this 15 in macbook pro and now the charger is dying after 3 months! Apple products used to be worth the extra money because the quality was better but not anymore! I am going to buy another brand Dell Windows based instead of Apple if this laptop fails, after 20 years of bing Mac loyal.

Lousy quality for an overpriced and even dangerous charger

This is a device that transforms a household electric current from whatever it is in your country to 85 W and sends that electric current to the battery of your computer. It is not rocket science and the technology has been around for about a century now. Yet Apple has failed to construct a charger that holds up to normal daily use. Let's put aside that this charger has magnetic contacts that kind of work, most of the time. What blows my mind is how Apple let the focus on design compromise the usability and quality of such a premium product. The cables on this charger are way too thin and made from a material that doesn't hold up over time, eventually making this charger a death trap and fire hazard. If I were Apple I would be embarrassed. This is by far their worst innovation.

    Absolutely dire reliability

I'm about to order my third one of these rubbish chargers. The last one once again broke at the point where the cable to the Macbook attaches to the charger block. It's actually just started smoking where I'd tried to patch over the frayed rubber with electrical tape.

Atrocious design, but we're stuck with it.

3 chargers in 2 years 4th on its way!

It's the worst product you can buy from Apple. I had to buy 3 chargers in 2 years. The problem is the pins in the magsafe connector get burned. They are spring loaded but when they won't connect well they get burned resulting in jammed pins, resulting again in bad connection, more resistance more heat. Today I even burned my fingers trying touching the connector. Again I have to buy a charger. The fourth!. Apple why is it so hard to focus on this problem. Seeing all the bad reviews this is a serious problem especially paying 3000 euro for a Macbook Pro Retina.

    Don't trust all reviews.

Still have my original charger from when I bought my macbook pro mid 2012. I know people hate the magnet is weaker but would you rather it unplug more easily or damage your computer because it ripped out?? Id prefer the weaker magnet. Mines actually frayed right near the power supply and not at the T connector. Just treat it well and will last you awhile, don't twist it up tightly which will cause tears.

    Horrible- Didn't last 2 months

Stopped working 2 months after buying my laptop brand new. It shouldn't cost $70 something bucks just for a cord that is horrible quality. Make a new design!

Apple Wake Up and Fix Your Power Cords

When are you going to fix the issue you have with cords? For the price we pay for your products, the power cords with proper care should last the life of the product. Is it so hard to design a cord that does not fray in less than a year?

This is the 2nd power cord I am forced to buy and my cord sits on a table. Owning a MAC should be a complete experience, not like having a Cadillac with a Pinto gas tank.

    Weak magnet bad design

The magnet always disconnects. Especially if you are working with the laptop in your lap. If you sit it down on couch, it disconnects. If you move at all, it disconnects. The T design makes it easy to bump and disconnect.

The good part, it does stay connected, if charging on a desk with no one near it.

    It blew up!

My Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter literally just popped like a party popper! The smell is crazy. No power surge or cause. I have taken great care of it and am really upset as these chargers are expensive to replace. I have read numerous reviews saying the same thing has happend to others. Quite disappointed.

    Didn't even last 9 months

This cord is terrible, the thin part of the cord (connecting the power block to the computer) frayed and became unusable less than 9 months after I got it new with my computer. Plz apple fix this design...

    ANOTHER charger broken

I'm buying another charger for £60. This one lasted 15 months and has now burnt out, just like the last one. It's becoming an annual replacement. So incredibly useless. Poor show from Apple.

Very poor cord for such an expensive laptop

Purchased and it did not work after a couple of used. I spent a lot for this expensive laptop and had to go to store to buy a useless cord again for charging. At least do Sth bout the cord and make it properly to save your customer 's time

    Very poor quality

The wire keeps braking. It is the third MagSafe in 3 years. I love Apple products, but this Adapter doesn't honor the brand... and it is expensive!

    JUNK

This charger has been a complete disappointment from the beginning, and now after just a year it is already broken. This should come as no surprise given that every single apple cord breaks in the exact same spot. The lightning connectors, 30 pin connectors, and this one most of all, are all complete junk. with 217 Billion dollars in cash you'd think they could spend a little more on some R&D to make something that actually lasts. I prefer the old style L connector to the new T design as many others have said.

How many "terrible" reviews before Apple FIXES this?

    Apple,
Its bad enough the stupid things DIE on an annual basis but now we get to go BACKWARDS in physical design as well?! Shortly after the original MagSafe adapter with the square body at the magnetic connection came out, the right-angle version of the original MagSafe power adapter became available which at least allowed you to USE your LAPTOP computer on your LAP without the stupid thing disconnecting! But now, with the advent of the MagSafe 2 adapter we HAVE gone BACKWARDS to the design that DIDN'T WORK the first time it was employed! Now, Apple hardware has gone the way of Microsoft software. Yes, its true, the original MagSafe and MagSafe 2 adapters are NOT interchangeable making the new one NOT backward compatible to older machines and the original adapter incapable of charging a newer machine! But if that isn't enough to be frustrated about, the design HAS gone backwards matching the design of first generation MagSafe adapters which makes it all but impossible to keep the power adapter connected while you USE it! I only regret that I am not able to give this LESS than one full star because for a company that otherwise makes such good and reliable hardware, ya done screwed this one up... completely... again!

    FIX THIS

I loathe these adapters. It is no longer a secret to anybody that these things are a heinous piece of embarrassingly bad industrial design. Truly odious in the face of the brilliant IDEA of having a magnetic plug. It might actually be that departure that I find so utterly insulting, come to think of it. I have now taken to repairing them over and over and over from the same frayed cable housing problem to the point where my current one has now been repaired five times (including with bits from the previous one) and the parts of the plug are so worn from this that the stupid little metal tongue won't stay in place anymore and I am having to glue it with superglue. Obnoxious in every way that such a well-designed and thoroughly excellent laptop should come at the cost of such an insulting cash-cow of a charger scam.

    Good quality charger!

I've absolutely no idea why this product has so many negative reviews - I've had my MacBook for more than two years now and haven't had to replace the charger at all, it is still in great condition (apart from the white colour being a bit darker now obviously).
