Dangerous sub standard product avoid at all cost

    • Written by Steven B from Solihull

This product should come with a health warning, poorly constructed and not designed to last. Reading through the countless reviews that all state pretty much the same this is a very poor show. I’ve just noticed that mine has started to fray on the lead that comes directly out from the power block, this could cause a fire or worse electrocution. I’ve looked online and Amazon sell chargers which look far more robust and only cost £19.99 with an 18 month warranty included along with fantastic reviews. How come Apple are unable to do this?

I've had my adapter for over 7 years!! No issues

    • Written by Karistian B from Lynwood

I've had my Power Adapter for over 7 years, and I have had no issues. I recently ran over the cord with my vacuum, and shredded the rubber tubing protecting the cables. Still Works perfectly fine!!! but I am ordering a new one because the wires are exposed.

    0 STAR Garbage cord

    • Written by Peter R A from Gansevoort

This cord is the epitimy of what a quality cord should be. I think I have a better chance of getting better quality at the local "Five Below". It is ridiculous what Apple charges for their electronics and accessories to begin with and then you get a cord like this that doesn't last more than a year. My first one I had got warranted because it was ion the first year. But that meant a 2.5 hour round trip to the Apple store. Now less than a year later again a ripped cord. What a joke. I thought the old saying went "You got what you pay for"?? Because we sure pay for it at apple but we don't all get it.

These are horrible. They break first at the point where the cord joins to the magsafe plug, the plastic tearing away and then the wires breaking. If this reinforced then the plastic tears up at random places on the cord. I am ordering the 3rd charger for my computer; my daughter is on her third, and my grandson is on his second or third. It would not be so bad if apple would sell them at cost, acknowledging the failure rate. This money matters to me.

Apple's corporate arrogance is astounding (I say this as a long-term mac person, an apple user since the Apple 2c). Any other company would have addressed a long-standing problem years ago, but the fact that they don't shows a casual disregard for their customers. Any other company would have responded to negative reviews with apologies and a fix. These reviews drop into a black hole.

    Durable when taken care of.

    • Written by Ryan R from Saskatoon

As the title states, this adapter is durable when you treat it correctly. I have had my current adapter for 5+ years and up until yesterday there was no issue with it. Yesterday I noticed there was an opening in the rubber, but the internal cable had not yet frayed in any way and it was still working as intended.

For context - this was a daily machine for me, going in and out of my bag, wrapping and unwrapping the cable multiple times, and while it showed signs of use, it is functioning as good as new. Now this isn't to say that everyone that has an issue with these cable mistreats them, but as someone who takes care of all of their cables the same way and rarely replaces them I feel that it should be noted that it may be user error in some cases.

Obviously every company has quality control issues and Apple is no different, but I think that it is the responsibility of the user as well to take care of their products. Many people complain about the price to replace the adapter, but don't treat it/value it like that in every day use. Either way I hope this is helpful to people who may be in the process of buying a new adapter whether it is this one or for another device. If you treat your stuff well, it will last and this isn't just Apple products. This applies to everything.

    Lousy, Cheap cords

    • Written by Michael H from Redmond

Always have been of fan of Apple designs and products. However, the cord engineer(s) should be FIRED. Whether its the MacBook Power Adapter or iPhone cord, the point where the cord enters the supply ALWAYS breaks down. Again, ALWAYS! Junk! There is no other way to describe the product. #Disappointed

This is the 2nd time my MagSafe2 charger has packed up on me . The cable has frayed in a couple of places and is showing the wire.I now have to pay another £79 for yet another cheaply made piece of rubbish to get my £1500 lap top working once again .Looking at all of the negative comments on here regarding the poor build quality of the MagSafe 2 power chargers i would have thought someone at Apple would be looking at this and thinking ...This is not very good for our product build image . But i guess we support Apple by having to buy chargers that most likely cost a couple of dollars to make in China. Wake Up Apple and give us some proper customer service. Disgusting ..

    Very Durable when treated correctly.

I have used the OEM chord since 2015 it is still working great. It is not as white as it once was, but that's because I have not cleaned it regularly. But I am very happy with this product.

    Lasted 4+ years

    • Written by Chloe P from Bodega

I can't relate to all of the negative reviews, because I've had this charger for 4 years without any complaints. However, the rubber around my chord has begun to expose the wire, and I will probably have to buy a new one soon. But it has been 4 years so I'm not really complaining about it.

Just like all Apple power cords

    • Written by Gerald B from Spring Hill

Apple makes a great product and they are ALWAYS trying to one up themselves with their iGadgets, HOWEVER they need to spend some money to figure out a way to make a good power cord. It is bad enough the iphone cables only last 4-6 weeks, but so do the cords on these Macbook adapters. This will be my 3rd replacement in 3 years. I still have my Dell Laptop cable and laptop from 2006 and never had to replace the adapter. UGH!

No issues for 4 years now...

    • Written by Brenna O from Peterborough

Not sure what everyone else is complaining about, I've had my original charger with my laptop (MacBook Pro, early 2015) since I bought it (in 2015) and the only problems I've had is yellowing of the cable – but that hasn't affected the cables ability to charge my laptop. I bring my laptop with me all over the place, and tend to cram my cable where ever it can fit – it's still holding together perfectly fine. It's been through college, near-homelessness, and different countries without a single problem. One of the best parts about it not breaking is I haven't had to purchase a new one for $100. My only explanation for everyone else's problems with the cable is I must be lucky.

    3rd time

    • Written by berkay O from barcelona

In 4 years. My MacBook Pro is from 2015 and I bought three chargers, they barely last a year, smell, burn and dangerous. So, unreliable that I charge my computer only after kids asleep and when I can watch it. There are other brands in Amazon that are apple/ MacBook compatible half the price. My wife bought them-- they also last a year, so not particularly better but cheaper at least. I am buying another one today because I cannot charge a non-apple product as an expense- company policy. What a waste of resources for everyone!

    Breaks right away

    • Written by Laura C from New York

The rubber encasing the wire started to weaken and fray within a year, even with light use. This is not my first and these always break. This is clearly an inferior, overpriced product. I wish Apple cared, but there's a clear trend in the reviews of their chargers...
