    Disappointed

I have to join the bandwagon of unhappy customers. I have has this charger for one year and the cord has split and it no longer works. I expect more of an Apple product, especially considering the cost!

    Very Delicate

First let me say I am very careful to never crimp the wire and rarely travel with the charger. But recently I have noticed that when I connect it the light fails to come on and I have to flip it over, I am assuming that one of the wires has started to break.

Externally the plug could pass for new, too bad Apple really cheaped out when it came to actually putting quality components into the charger.

Going to research aftermarket options as I do not want to reward Apple and have to replace it with another inferior charger that will likely break after a year of light use.....

    Cord tears

I have been using my charger for around 3 years now. It coped with low-travel usage in the first year and a half, but in the last 18 months the cord has torn completely, which I can only attribute to the style in which you're recommended to travel it; coiled around the pop-out arms, causing the wire to bend at the stem. I've splinted mine, to try and reduce damage, but really this is a terrible design feature, which has resulted in my charger being un-usable.

The cost of a replacement is ridiculous. Not happy.

    Ripped Cord

I've had this charger for about 4 years and surprisingly have had no issues until now. The cord ripped and still worked for a few days if I placed it at a certain angle. When I was moving it around to try and get it to work sparks started shooting out from the open wires from them being ripped. Definitely a fire hazard. As a broke college student, I am not looking forward to spending $79 on a new charger.

Cord keeps ripping and falling out

The cord rips at the end and the charger just falls out so easily all the time and all that for $80???? This charger doesn't even beat half of the chargers on other laptops and those ones are a lot cheaper...

    Defective Adapter

Like the two adapters I had previously - all different heads and the other two were MagSafe first generation - this charge adapter never worked right out of the box new. Sometime is wouldn't start charging for a few seconds. Sometimes I'd have to reinsert it. I never knew what to do to get it to turn on the light. Then, suddenly, one day it just kind of severed at the sleeve just behind the magnetic head. It was only about a year and a half old! I've had extension cords for all my other electronics without issue for years! But, all 3 of my Apple MacBook Pro 13" cords have been duds! I went and got an adapter and tried it with someone else's old MagSafe, and it, too, wouldn't charge without jiggling the head. Sometimes even when the light said it was charging, it wasn't. Sometimes it just wouldn't work - but the cord was in pristine shape. Come on, Apple! Stop saying there is no known defect! This is ridiculous!!!! We should not have to pay $80 plus dollars to replace your defective junk!!! This should be a recall and replace! They are safety hazards! They get hot and there is obviously a short inside the magnetic head and/or weak electric lines both inside the housing and cable.

Third class charger is being given Top class Industry (Apple)

It's only 2nd year and charger's cord has gone like anything. Never expected such a cheap material from Apple for MacBook-Pro Retina.

    Terrible Cable

Like everyone else, I've had the same problem with this cable tearing up. It's probably a fire hazard by this point and I need to get a new one, just not excited about dropping the money on it at the $80 price tag. I've used exclusively Apple products since the IIe, and this is the first laptop I've ever owned that had this particular issue. Disappointed.

    Ripped core showing wire inside

After having this for 3 years the charger now is tore for this reason I have to purchased a new one. Hope Apple improve their longevity of the charger in the future as MacBook is not cheap to buy and the replacement for the charger is costly.

Disappointed in lifespan and the potential hazard it posed!

I've had my 13" Macbook pro for a few years now and the laptop itself has been amazing, but this charging cord is terrible. After about 18 months of normal use the cord developed a short in it and I could not get consistent charging from it. Come to find out the sheath on the cable had pulled out of the housing to the plug and that may have been the cause. Then just yesterday after the cord becoming even more finicky, I looked over to see why my computer wasn't charging and saw that the power cable was totally exposed because the charger got too hot and burned. This could have started a fire! I am really frustrated with Apple charging accessories and the ridiculous price that they charge for a replacement. $80 for a charging cable is far too much.

    Indecent build quality

The charger fell down on a carpeted floor on a plane from max 2ft height and stopped working. Had the charger for 3 years and most of the time it was plugged in and disconnected laptop for taking on trips may be 50 times.

    Poor Quality!

I've noticed that my Power Adapter started splitting within 2 years after purchasing my MacBook Pro. I totally expected much more from Apple! As expensive as the MacBook Pro is, I'd expect that Apple would give an adapter that was longer lasting or at least more affordable. The way that Apple prides itself, I'd expect better products that give its customers longevity. I'd rate this product a "0" if I could.

    Pretty good

I've had this charger for over 4 years and there were no problems until recently where the rubber broke right below where the charger meets the computer and now it's starting to fray. This is definitely because of constantly bending it so I'm happy with the way it has lasted so long. It does stink that it's going to cost $80.

    A pile of junk

For £65, I could build a much better charger/PSU in a one-off prototype, let alone the millions apple churn out. Very obviously deliberate low build quality to keep you buying this trash. In the first few months of use, grommet near where the Mac power cable leaves the charger body started splitting open, then within the year it completely severed, so onto my second charger. This time, the same cable broke down mid-length, so had to snap it, repair and insulate. I'd have used crimp connectors, but it would make the cable impossible to wind, so the repair kept severing. Finally, it gave up the ghost completely, and went up with a bang and smoke from inside the charger (literally) - I have it in pieces on my test bench to do forensics on and trumpet the undoubtedly nasty results and root cause analysis. I have to now go and purchase yet another one, so cost of ownership in chargers alone over two years is the best part of £200. Bah Humbug Apple!! what a con and fraud!!.

Too bad there's no ZERO stars rating.

    Top Notch - Zero Issues

Totally blown away at the negative reviews on here. I'm looking to buy a second charger for my wife so she can leave one at the office and one at home. We own 4 macbooks... 15" 2015 MacBook Pro Retina, 13" 2015 MacBook Pro Retina, 13" 2013 MacBook Air and my old 2011 15" MacBook Pro. All still use the original magsafe chargers that came with them at purchase... All work perfectly with zero issues.I have never experienced fraying, dry-rotting, or any mechanical or electrical issues. Clearly the majority of users are ABusers.

    Do not buy this!!

This is a horrible product. I've had mine for 1.5 years and the cord started fraying exposing the bare wires. You'd think for such an expensive product, apple would deliver good quality. However, this is clearly not the case, as seen with most of their products. Definitley go third party unless you like having sparks emitting from your charger.

Terrible - It Frays and Rips in Four Places

I've had this charger for nearly two years and it has rips in the rubber coating in four places. I mean - completely torn where there are large sections of the wires exposed. I have it wrapped in electrical tape but it looks terrible and god only knows when it will completely go out. I'm not paying $80 for a replacement of the same thing - so until Apple changes to a better quality charger, I will buy third party replacements.
