Too bad "0" is not an option!

Bad design, terrible quality, and expensive...I think that sums up everything that is wrong with this product. Pros? Yes there are pros but not for the consumers only for Apple!

    Worst charger ever

After one year of usage it started falling apart. Magnet is barely holding, the cord is total rubbish, to replace it shops charge you $80. The worst part of my MacBook.

    USELESSS

    1. My charger split and both ends leaving exposed wire, I am very careful with it i have had just over a year.
    2. it sparks every single time i plug it in and has burn marks on it.
    3. the end of the charger gets so hot to the point it actually melted my S key on my macbook.
    4. another one costs 79 whole British sterling, it has a gone up in price every single year by around £5.
    5. I am appalled at how little apple care about their consumer as year after year people complain and the wire is still poorly made.

Power Adapter Is Not Representative of Apple Quality

Everything Apple produces is great except the simple power adapter. I bought PC laptops every 2-3 years for a long time due to various reasons. I was tired of doing this and was very reluctant to spend so much money on an Apple laptop, even though I have been very pleased with my iPhones over the years. When my latest PC laptop failed after only 2 years, I went all in and bought an Apple Mac Pro with Retina display. The laptop is now 3 years old, performs flawlessly every day and looks like I just took it out of the box. However, Apple should be ashamed of their power adapters for their laptops, specifically the sheath that contains the wiring. It is poor quality and tears up within the first year. Since there have been so many complaints, it does look as though Apple is patting themselves on the back in having designed such a poor quality adapter that peopl keep buying year after year because their laptops are such high quality. Shame on you Apple.

    Worst product ever

I have found that Apple's chargers and cords (phone or laptop) are always horrible to begin with. I always spend a fortune replacing my iphone charger cords each year, so much so that I have stopped buying Apple brand chargers and have gone on to purchase generic ones off ebay and amazon. But this macbook pro charger was the last straw. I just spend $2,000 on a laptop and when the original charger frayed, $80 for a replacement!! Atrocious! I want my money back!!! I am so regretting buying the macbook now. Save your hard earned dollars, go buy a decent PC for much much less. It is not just the cost of Apple products but the maintenance after that costs consumers an arm and a leg.

The same issue as multiple other people.. cord frayed .

I am so disappointed .... having the same issue as multiple others have stated. The cord to the Power Adapter split and frayed exposing the wires... shortly after the 12 month warranty had expired. Since others have stated, that very likely the costly replacement Adapter will also fray.. I have repaired the fraying area with electrical tape. But for the cost of the Mac Book Pro.. to have such a chintzy cord on the Adapter is a huge disappointment. I hope the next generation of Mac Book Pro will have this apparently common weakness ... addressed .

    Useless

Same problem as everyone else. Cord starts to break down after a year leaving exposed wires, very dangerous and could prove a potential fire hazard.

A rip off. Unsafe and expensive. Apple should be ashamed.

Apple probably has the worst charger design of all brands. Both ends of the cable start exposing the wire in no time. It's unacceptable to be given such poor quality accessories when you spent a couple thousand dollars on a computer. Not mentioning that buying a new charger costs 100 USD in Australia... doesn't really make you want to buy 3.

    Horrible!

I bough my MacBook pro less than 3 years ago, and I'm going on my 3rd charger. This is unacceptable. They all fray exposing the wires. When you spend nearly $3000 on a computer, you expect more out of it and the accessories that come with it. I've always been a huge apple fan, but lately ALL of your products have been lacking in quality! Very disappointed.

    terrible, weak, waste of money

The chargers are terribly weak. I have used many windows computers and never had a problem with the power cables. This design needs to be changed.

    Garbage

For $80 this charger should last more than a few months to a year. Once my current macbook dies I will not be buying another one because I'm tired of having to shell out $80 every time my charger stops working.

    Horrible Quality

I wish I had a choice for purchasing a different cable, because I have had to replace it once a year since I purchased my computer. The cable rips open and warps without being moved. I don't want to risk setting something on fire because the cable rips open and has exposed wires.

    Worst thing on this earth

I love my Macbook, but this charger is the most infuriating thing i have ever experienced in my life. Ive had one macbook pro before, and the one i have now ive had for a year and the charger has lasted the entire time. However I will NEVER understand why they changed the structure of this charger! the fact that the cord stick straight out is the MOST annoying and frustrating thing EVER! I preferred the old charger, where the cord stuck out parallel to the macbook. I can't charge the dang thing and have it in my lap or on my bed or anything without the cord clicking out at every angle. I hope they reconstruct this back to the previous model, or make both versions because I will tear all my hair out if i have to keep dealing with this piece of junk.

    Terrible Product

This charger is the bane of my existence. My first charger broke while I was doing research in a foreign country and my Mac battery was also tripping out. I lived in constant fear of losing all of my work if I accidentally moved my computer the slightest and my charger frizzed out. I bought a second charger for $100 which also has frayed to the point of being useless a few weeks over the 12 mo. warranty. Very convenient. Will definitely reconsider buying an apple product in the future.

    Not Durable

Unfortunately, I've had to buy several chargers for my macbook pro. The cable is weak, and the plastic sheath breaks down fast, revealing the inner shielding. The chargers should last at least as long as the computer lasts! Seeing as so many people have this issue, apple should replace them for customers having these issues!

I've had issues with Apple chargers in the past, but this one takes the cake. As someone who is very careful with their charger, I am disappointed in how quickly the coating of mine wore down.

    It's a rubbish product.

The laptop end of the cable split in a couple of places after about 2.5 years' use. Most other laptop power supplies live 5-10 years. I've used this power supply very carefully. It appears that the splits have occurred at the point I've most often used the integrated plastic clip to keep the cable tidy and out of harm's way. So the product has basically broken itself, exposing an electrical hazard, being used in the way it was intended.

No way am I paying almost 80 quid for something this poorly designed. I'd like to own my laptop, not rent it from Apple at the £40/year it'll cost to keep it powered. Sheesh, Apple.

Anyway, electrical tape has been keeping me safe for a couple of months, but I'm going to try Sugru next. I'll make sure I choose a nice visible colour so people who see me using my laptop in public know that some of Apple's stuff needs patching up with sticky tape after a bit of use.

I'll also say that the material the cable is made from must have been carefully designed in a lab to attract all nearby dirt. Takes about a month for it to look like a 30-year-old printer cable.
