I ordered a 2nd charger and it doesn’t works either

    • Written by Stephannie V from Punta Santiago

I have a Macbook Air (11 inches) that I bought on 2014. The original charger that came with the laptop worked perfectly until the cables broke and all the wires became exposed, and eventually stopped charging. By 2017, I ordered a new one, convinced that the problem was the charger and it didn’t work: the orange/green light never worked. Doing some research online, I found very bad reviews about the model and that the deffect was the charger’s impossibility to warm up and do his work. The major tips were to sit on the charger to bring the heat up with one’s body. As ridiculous as it sounds, it worked! Since I discovered the problem, now everytime I want to use my laptop, I use a HAIR BLOWER for 5 minutes or so, just to produce the neccesary hear for the charger to work. I’m SPEECHLESS, the WORST inversion of my life.

    Doesn't Last

    Good product!

    • Written by Hannah R from Fresno

I received my Mag Safe 2 charger with my MacBook air when I first purchased it back in July 2014, and I am just now buying a replacement charger. I never bothered to fold the wires correctly, so it finally frayed where the thin charge cord connected to the power adaptor...4 years is pretty great, and my laptop still functions fine, so here's to another 4 years with my next charger, hopefully!

    Utter Garbage

    • Written by Jake B from Boulder

I honestly cannot believe they charge 80 bucks for this charger. I try to take care of these chargers, but every time the cord becomes frayed on the power block and breaks off. It would be an insanely easy fix to make that part of the power block detachable so you can just buy a new cord instead of the entire charger just like the outlet cord. This is why I'm selling my Macbook and buying something else instead of buying a new charger. Like seriously, this charger is 18% of the cost of a new machine I am looking at, and I can guarantee it would break. That ain't right.

    Great Charger! Good Quality Product!

    • Written by Zachary K from Sioux City

I've been using this kind of charger to change my MacBook Air and usually never have an issue with it. It charges great and being 45 watts is easier on the energy bills and doesn't blow a fuse.

I have no idea why a lot of people are giving this great product a 1-star rating. Most of the 1-star ratings are from users misusing the charger or just not winding or storing it properly. Whenever I needed to replace a charger, it was my own fault when I didn't wind it properly or anything like that. Seriously guys, don't place the blame on Apple if you're misusing it or not taking proper care of it. My charger works great, and Apple worked extra hard making a quality product.

    Third cable

    • Written by oceana M from London

Mine only lasted a year before it completely fell apart and started severely fraying and looked like it wasn't safe to use anymore. I know I could take it into the genius bar and get a replacement, but I just don't have time to wait for one. There is no reason the quality should be so terrible, apple needs fix this!

    Strange Problems?

    • Written by Liam L

So I've had mine for about a year and I'm pretty heavy on it as I sleep with my Mac Book so sometimes I get my leg stuck in the cord and tug on it, but I never have problems with it falling out I do get the other reviews say any force on the top or bottom makes the cord fall out but I never seem to have problems with it. My only problems is that my cord is slowly turning yellow and the LED just shuts off randomly and continues to charge my Mac Book.

Workaround: Use Original MagSafe cord with MagSafe 2 Adapter

    • Written by Joanna W from Clinton

The best $10 you'll ever spend is buying the MagSafe 2 Adapter, and using it with the original MagSafe power cord. (The original connecter looks like a small straight stick with a tiny 'brush' sticking out at the side). The adapter simply snaps onto the original connecter, easy peasy. While it's still not ideal, it's MUCH better than the actual MagSafe 2, and could well prolong your getting good use out of older computers. Good luck.

This truly could have been designed wayyyyy better. The wire frays fairly easily and the unit almost always overheats. I am frustrated and I don't know what to do. The laptop is great, the charger not so much.

I’ve had my MacBook Air for 2 years now and I’m using the same adapter that the box came with. Still in great condition! I recommend it!

You have to use this is you have a new MacBook Air, but it is frustrating to the max. It absolutely will not stay plugged into the laptop unless you are not using it, and not breathing and there is not a fan on in the room. Only slightly exaggerating. It is the worst. Impossible to use while you are using your MacBook on your lap. The slightest move makes it come unplugged. Slightest at all. I miss my old MacBook Pro and it’s charger plug.

    Bad. Bad. Bad.

    • Written by Angela S from El Prado

Ok. I own the MacBook Pro and a newer Mac air. On the MacBook Pro, I had to replace my cord 3 times in6 yers. On my Mac air, I have had to replace it 2 times in 3 yrs. Now I’ve experienced major crackling, sizzling sounds from 3 of the different cords. They all get VERY hot after a couple hours.
These things are over priced for what you get. No Apple product should snap crackle n pop and I’ve experienced it several times with different cords. They burn out quick. Surge protector or not- it doesn’t matter. I WISH WISH WISH they would come up with a better design. I love me some Apple but these chargers are sh#!

I absolutely love my MacBook Air, it's helped me through the trials of High school (6 years old) but, the charger is rubbish, please please redesign this product as the cable breaks merely too easily, precisely at the beginning and end of the thin side to the wire, the cable has broken on both sides during one week. My cord stays nicely wrapped up all day every day; I don't throw it around or carry it to work with me. Make it thicker or a different material or something, because they are simply not lasting!

    45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter

The price of replacement is a big negative. $99. The first cable is sensitive to any damage (the extension cable is more robust).

Awful quality and don't last very long.

    • Written by Izzy H from Aylesford

Lasted for about 3 years which is good i suppose and why i gave 2 stars but for £79 i dont expect wires and the rubber to easily peel off and expose wires. Mine is breaking and i'm forced to buy this one. Way too expensive for the quality and the charger length is not very long! I hate it but it did last for 3 years but i was hoping it would've lasted me until i needed to buy another computer.

    Love my MagSafe 2

    • Written by Colin L from Edinburgh

Seeing all these negative reviews has prompted me to add a bit of balance. I've had my MBA for about 5 years and power cable looks and works like new. It is fairly light and compact and plenty long enough. I just love the magnetic connection and the little light on the connector indicating whether the battery is fully charged. Definitely a design classic and a shame that it has been superseded on new MacBook models.
