I gave up!!! I switch Charging Cable Companies

I know just use Belkin charging cables. Although almost the same price, these cables last a whole lot longer. I use to replace my cables almost every month. However, I've had my Belkin cable for about a year now with no issues. The cable is like a hard wire inside it. Hope it works for you. I love Apple, but I don't want to just keep wasting money on something I don't need to.

Horrible- Apple should be sued over this

My family owns 3 iPhones, 4 iPads and 2 macbooks. Plus I bought 180 iPad Air 2s for work (I work in IT). These cables are terrible. They break after just a few months of occasional usage. I believe Apple made them this way to make money off of replacements. I love Apple products, but these cables are a stain on Apple's reputation. I have to buy all new cables now every 3-6 months.

    Guess it wasn't just me

Thought maybe it was just my charger but 4 pages into the reviews and not one over 2 stars. I've had two iPhones and with both phones their cables have crapped out after the first year. Unacceptable! you're charging $700-1000 for a device yet the charger can't even deliver? It's bad enough that the battery on these phones are weak as sin. I had my phone charged at 100% and within an hour of taking it off the charger and not even using it I was down to 92% on top of that my original charger is broken. I refuse to spend money on another item that will not last and thank goodness I checked these reviews before fixing my fingers to order one. Apple really needs to do better. Instead of coming up with all of these useless updates that take up an unnecessary amount of space why not use that time to come up with a quality product.

You'd think Apple would fix it.

These cables break so quickly. They wear away where the cable meets the head of the lightning port. I've gone through at least six of these since I bought my iPhone last year. I've spent more in cables than on the phone itself! Generic cables work even worse. I've never had a generic one last over two weeks.

You'd think Apple would actually make a quality charging cable. And these are ludicrously expensive.

    Apple Cable Breaks Easily

Every Lighting cable I purchase for the three iPhones and one iPad in our house break within 60 days. I have spent at least $300 replacing these cables over the last 2 years. I am so frustrated! Apple needs to fix this. It's a huge problem. How about a recall?

This is simply unacceptable quality, especially considering the premium price we the customers pay for Apple products!! I see these damaged cables everywhere now. How is it possible that this has passed Apple's quality control and still in the market? Fix it Apple!

    High price, Low quality

I'm not going to leave a lengthy review as others have. I'm on my 4th or 5th cord. I use them normally and I'm not putting them through any harsh situations. The cheap white rubber/plastic cord cover ALWAYS frays apart from the metal conductor interior. This is the most basic of fixes... What’s going on Apple? This is terrible quality. You have thousands of people complaining about the same problem. Step it up.

    Too weak

The cables are way too over priced, if they actually lasted more than 3 months I wouldn't be so disappointed but alas I consider it a miracle when my cable functions for more than a month only. Wish they'd fix this problem rather than releasing new iOS updates all the time.

    They break too easily...

I'll say that I baby my cables I keep them in the same spot, never tug them or mistreat them and I've had two break on me that came with my last three iPhone's. My whole family have iPhones and iPads and we're short of them, we only have two cables to share between all 5 of us and a dozen Apple products that originally came with them. I've just finally bothered to buy cheap third party ones from eBay, if they last more than 10 mins it's a result...

I've never had a single Micro USB cable break on me, in fact I have about 500 sitting in a box from over the years, Apple's Lightning cable however is useless.

Awful product that is really a serious problem

I love the quality of Apple products. I've got everything - iPad, iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhones etc etc. Love them.

However, these charging cables are the absolute worst, and are the complete opposite of the usual apple quality.

They last for about a month before problems set in. Suddenly, you'll notice errors like "not an authorised cable" and suddenly you'll have to move the cable around to get the phone to charge. Connections within the cable connector or the cable itself tend to degrade very quickly just with light usage.

The dreaded constant phone buzzing when you know the cable is on the way out will drive you crazy. The phone will wake you up at night with its buzzing because the cable has decided it's time to die out. The phone will buzz every 15 seconds until you swear and rage and unplug it.

Worst of all, aftermarket alternatives don't work for very long as apple has implemented some sort of profit protection so only their cables will work for any length of time.

So you're basically up for a $30 hit every couple of months maintaining a "usable"cable.

Absolute disgrace. I've never written a review that's negative of an apple product before but this is beyond a joke.

Omfg can you please make chargers that wont die

seriously as soon as my iPad karks it I will never replace it with an apple product, this is the 7th charger I have had to purchase in 2.5 years! I think you make them cheap on purpose! A heads

    Horrible quality!

If apple wishes to remain on top, perhaps they need to reconsider the basic necessities of owning their products - the charging cords. I replace these every few months. Their quality couldn't be worse! Hmmm.... I hear Samsung has chargers that last and last.

Apple should come up with a solution

Terrible product & no alternative in sight

I must have gone through 10 of these cables. It's always the same - you buy them, they work fine. But after a few weeks the center contacts start to discolour until they actually physically disappear. They basically rot away. I think this must be due to high humidity where I live. The cable itself is fine, never had any problem with the cable (no frailing, kinks or anything), but it's the connector itself that just stops working after the most 6 months (sometimes much earlier).

I have tried alternatives and they perform the same. Some lasted me 5 days, some (MFI cert) would last me a few weeks. These will not last longer than 6 months in a humid place.

I change cables more than some people change razors

I've only had my phone since April 2015 and I'm already on my 4th cable. If you're going to sell a terrible but necessary product, the least you can do is have the price reflect the quality. Here is what I do with my cables that apparently is too strenuous for them. The cable sits in my home next to my TV for charging while I'm here or it sits in my car to charge it when I'm not here. I guess if I want my cables to average more than 5 weeks of life I shouldn't even touch them. I got knock off cables now and they lasted as long (longer in one case) than my first apple one. Basically apple is selling you a product that is the same quality as what I found in a gas station rolled up and rubber banded for $5. The lightning platform is terrible, 3 years later and it still has it's "teething issues" seems more like serious platform flaw at this point.

    Are you kdding me?

I barely touched that 2 days old cable and the housing for that microchip behind the lightening plug came of and then was like a pearl on a necklace. tried to gently get it back in place and thanks to that the red cable ripped of the plug. my grandma can make better cables. sorry..but a new cable for 25€ ? Are you kidding me?

If only I could give negative stars

I have been an Apple fan since the release of the iPad, but I am sorely disappointed in the quality of the charger cables. Within 6 months to a year, the coating around the wires begin to fray and disintegrate. Wires are exposed and the chargers stop working. We currently own 8 Apple devices that require chargers in our household. I purchased multiple cables and plugs so that I could leave 4 at the office and 4 at home. I thought that the cables would last longer if I didn't transport them from site to site. I was wrong.
Not only are Apple devices at the top price bracket, but now it costs even more to maintain them. When you look at the cost of an iPad or iPhone, you can add $40+ per yr just to use your iPad or iPhone.
