    Pretty much terrible

The cable always breaks right where I plug into the phone, because it bends while I have it plugged in and use it. There should be a sturdy base, like a nice aux cable. The casing breaks open then the wires get bent and it's done. Don't be ridiculous about it, be good innovators- you're already making a fortune off the phone, guys. Come on... Don't make me buy 5 new cords a year.

Apple, we know you can do better

How can the makers of the iPhone and iPad also be responsible for these charging cables? They're great at tech, their cables are dreck!

Amazon Basics makes a better cable at a fraction of the price (not to mention three dozen Chinese off-brand companies), and Apple's response isn't to improve their overpriced product by to ensure we get "Product may not be supported" messages if we use the rationally priced cables.

Poorly done, Apple. Customer care still matters.

    Cord still going...except casing

I got a free replacement cord near the end of 1 year of nearly daily use. I am just now ordering a new cable after more than one more year of use. The cable still works totally fine despite the torn casing and 2-3 frayed strands. (The same issue as before.) I do use the cord moderately hard because I am in and out of my iPad all day long for project management, research, and relaxation. I often use it while it's plugged in. My charger, after more than two years, still works fine. I love that we can buy the cord separate from the charger cube!
1 star off for poor quality cord casing material. Why not use something studier?

    Pure garbage

My iPhone/iPad cords didn't last more than a few months. The plastic covering split and the wires inside frayed. They are not made to be used as a normal hand-held item is used. I have tried many sturdier cords that aren't Apple products and they work wonderfully. One I have had for about 5 months with no sign of wear. It has a braided covering instead of the thin, cheap plastic that Apple uses. The only trouble is the iPhone keeps Donking at me, even after it is connected. It doesn't seem to be a problem with my iPad. This is so incredibly stupid! Steve Jobs ghost must be fuming. Apple, this probably costs you 20 cents to make and yet you charge $20! Scam artists in the extreme. I just will keep buying non-Apple cords and if it blows up, oh well. There are always Android phones and tablets out there.

This don't deserve one star, deserve less.

I love apple products but the usb charger is the cheapest thing ever they damage too fast, instead of doing updates to the iphone you should make a new charger that doesn't damage that fast. Too expensive for what it does.

    Default is the Best

This is the Cable that comes with any iPhone or iPod. It is the standard that most Lightning Cables look up to. They are sturdy, fast to charge and amazing. One of the things that Apple has also done is made it safer for the environment and removed elements that harm the environment. For example it doesn't use PVC. Go Apple for being Environmental.

    Great cable

Not sure how these other people have managed to destroy theirs, but I just gave a way a two year old cable to my wife and I can't help but think how well it has held up.

    Doesn't last long

I've gone through 4 of these. 3 of which literally sat on a desk to charge devices. Handled with care, never pulled on cable just the jacks. The rubber/plastic shrinks over time and pulls/frays the fragile wires inside, regardless of how you care for it. I put electrical tape on my newest cable the day I bought it, and it has lasted a little longer than the others. Way too expensive for this low level of quality.

    Satisfied customer.

I bought four of these in October 2014, for home, for work and for the car, with one spare; it's now May 2017 and I still use three of them because they are in perfect working order. Only one failed, but that was after over two years of being the one that was used most. The rubber at the 'lightening' end started to come away and expose the wire within, so, although the cable still worked, I binned it. I'm now back to buy a replacement.

My advice may be a little patronising, because it's common sense. Don't treat the cable roughly; when plugging or unplugging it, handle the plastic lightening or USB connecting parts, not the rubber cable. Also, when holing your device while the cable is connected to it, do so at an angle that does not strain or put bending pressure on the cable within about a couple of inches of the device.

Great charger, but there's one problem.

So, as I said, there's one issue. The charger will burst open over time for some strange reason. I think the actual wiring generates small amounts of heat under the rubber casing, causing the rubber casing to swell (bubble), and then eventually it just bursts open.

It's the end that goes into the phone, it mostly happens at that end. I don't pull it out of my iPhone by the cable, I take great care of my Apple products (because I love them).

But, the point is that I think Apple should think about the charger and recreate it, fully or just fix the issues. If Apple does this, please upgrade the USB to 3.0, for more efficient charging and syncing. Apple is all about performance, sleek designs and efficiency.

If you all keep complaining and hating on Apple, just stop moaning about everything and move to Samsung or something. Apple doesn't need people like you.

    Cheaply made

It would be so easy for Apple to reinforce the cable where it enters the plug part of the cord, but then they wouldn't have you over a barrel. Every single one of these eventually frays/wears out in the exact same way in a relatively short amount of time. Even being careful to grab it by the plug itself and not the cord, they still fall apart. I'm willing to risk the "warranty" on the iPhone at this point because these are just a poorly made product and Apple refuses to address it.

    The worst

This cable is the worst, mine just broke and I don’t have the chance to get a new one, and nobody in my family owns an iPhone expect me, so I’m guessing now I will not have a phone, fix this problem or I will be switching to Samsung
