No longer am I range anxious!

This is a great compliment to the iPhone 6. Essentially I finish a 14 hour day with my phone still showing 100% battery remaining, and the case only just needing to be charged. I used to get anxious about using the phone at the end of the day in case I ran out of battery, but those days are gone. It makes the phone heavier of course, but not too heavy, and frankly, easier to handle with the rubbery surface.

My phone is now over a year old and the battery has started to lose its charge quicker than previously, and also its lightning connection is a bit looser than it was, so this smart battery case addresses both issues. You charge both phone and case with one lightning connection on the base of the case.

My only negative is that it attracts the dust like a Dyson made of Blu-Tak, but I can live with that with regular cleanings. Four stars - ONLY marked down one star for its Pig Pen dust attraction - this really is a super bit of kit with signature Apple iOS integration to show relative charging levels.

Completely useless if you want to use hifi headphones

The pack may be good - but it's completely useless if you want to use anything apart from apple headphones... I returned immediately.
Bad apple. This is a serious design flaw.

    50/50

I love having extra battery on my phone and not having to think about if my phones going to be charged when I go to walk home.
However, it adds considerable weight to the phone, it's slightly longer to accommodate the connector and of course thicker. But the problem I'm having is when using my phone, both battery's seem to be going down instead of the case battery first, then the phone battery. Not sure if this is a phone problem but it's a bit annoying considering how expensive both parts are.

    Form Follows Function Follows Form

This battery case is a keeper. It does two things very well: protects the phone, and extends how long you can go before needing to charge.

I really like the order it works: When you put the case on your phone, if your phone is not at 100%, it will top up your phone. Then your phone will use power from the case until it's at 0%. Finally, your phone will switch to using its internal battery. What this means is a) you can remove the case for the rest of the day once it has been drained (if you have an alternate case you like to use, such as the spiffy leather case)... and b) your iPhone's internal battery will see less cycling, making it last longer.

The reverse is true come charging time. Your phone is charged up first, then the case. Apple must have debated about this internally, but the priority is on freeing you from worrying about making it through the day, and you can swap to a lighter case for your evening out, if so desired. You can also just leave the battery case on the phone all the time and not think about it.

The integrated Lightning connector does pass data / audio just fine, as my car was able to treat the phone like an iPod just as normal. I played Apple Music without a problem.

The speaker and mic ports work just fine and helpfully direct sound out the front of the phone. I measure no difference in cell phone reception with the battery case, either.

Oh, the hump? Well, maybe it looks jarring in photos. In real life, my phone is laying face up on my desk. The hump makes the phone look like it is magically floating. Practically, it is easier to pick up, and if a cup of coffee were spilled, the phone is literally above it all.

Why knock a star? The headphone port cannot accommodate my Bose QC20i ear buds. I will need an extender. Too bad Apple couldn't figure out a way to either extend the headset jack or provide a new one from the Lightning connector. Even better would be to have the QC20i use Lightning for audio and power, but that's wish for another day.

Great Battery Case but some issues.

This case works well to keep it charged longer. The bump on the back of the case was no issue to me. Case added a little more weight to the phone. The only issue I had was when I plug my phone into my vehicle to play my music as well as Pandora, it would not read or start playing my music. Before this case, when I would plug my iPhone into my car it would show my music on my car screen but since I had this case it said no media found. I returned this case and will be waiting for a new and improved case in the future.

lightning pass through only works while the case has power

originally i bought a significantly cheaper 3rd party battery case. i bought this one because it allows lightning pass through allowing me to use my lightning to HDMI adaptor with the case in situ.

However you should know the lightning pass through ONLY works while the case has power. once the case reaches zero charge and the phones battery is then used the Lightning pass through stops working meaning i am forced to take the case off, so no better off really than i was with my inexpensive battery case. obviously some electrical gubbins in the case enable the lightning pass through but they require power!

This of course could be solved with a software update that told the phone to use the case first but then to leave say 5% charge in the case and then draw on the phones battery.

as is the item gets 1 star, and im taking mine back. if it was able to provide true pass through technology it MIGHT be worth the £80 (then again probably not)

    Can't use headphones

Just bought this at Apple Store and tried use my Bose head phones and I couldn't. So I have to take off the case to use them. That is why it got only 3 stars. If you are getting this case check to make sure you can use your headphones

Wanted it to be a great battery case!

I have used Mophie for years and love them. I thought I would give the new Apple battery case a try with my new 6s. I thought wrong. The look is nice, but the Silicon outer case is horrible. It makes the phone difficult to slide in and out of pockets and for my magnetic car holder, you cannot stick anything to this case. Also, I like having the on/off switch with the Mophie, being able to choose when to use the juice in the case. With the Apple case, you use the battery in the case first then the iPhone battery with no switch. Good idea, but lacks execution and design which goes against Apple's branding. I used it for 2 days before going back to Mophie.

    Almost there....

Apple you are so close.... Love the case but they could have made it so much better...like they could have used all of the back and made the battery even bigger, you can only really use apple headphones with the case on because of the small hole for the headphone jack, and (it could just be me but) It doesn't seem to support video adapters through the case so if you use them often like I do you have to take off the case, and I wish it came in more colors/leather, and I can stand it but I wish that the big extended chunk on the bottom of the case for the connections was smaller but... Now I know this makes the case seem bad but I actually do love the case a lot like I love how I can see on the phone the charge of the case and phone and stuff like that P.S. Apple should just be OK with making there phones a little bigger so they can put a bigger battery in the phone.....

very warm battery, takes hours to charge, and drains fast

Been using it for a few weeks. It seems to take a whole night to charge, yet it drains in less than a day even when not using it much! Much faster than the phone's battery itself. :( Disappointed purchase.

    Does not work correctly

I purchased this in December and it does not work well at all. I was hoping to use it as a cover full time but this is not possible. When you connect a wall socket to charge it the phone is the only thing that charges. The cover is totally bypassed and does not charge, no matter how long it is plugged in. . Instead you need to take the phone out of the cover and charge both separately.

    Great product

I just recently purchased this case from Apple. I must say I love it so far. You can't really judge this case from the Internet. Go to apple and hold it in your hand before you judge. Does add a little bit of weight, but what battery case doesn't? Also the added weight feels very balanced in the hand. I love the battery display built right into io9 notifications bar. What really sold it for me was the built in lighting port, and when charging it charges the case and phone at the same time.

    Bad

Got this for the wife as a present for her new iPhone 6. Worked for a month. Now it won't charge. Return limit was 14 days. So stuck with it. Waste of good money. Would have been better off buying a non Apple product. Had one of those, they work much better.

Surprised how much I like it.

I had used Mophie cases in the past that scratched my phone or the top would get loose and just be an annoyance. Even though I read that this case was ugly and called the hump I thought I'd try it as the other cases didn't work for me. Needless to say it is the easiest case I ever used and I cannot stress how nice not to have to use a micro usb cable just the lightning one. Battery life while traveling has been great and I barely use the internal phone battery most of the time. Nice to be nearing the end of the day and seeing you have 80-90% internal battery than 10% or none at all restricting what you can do with phone. The integration into the notification screen of the battery indicators is great. Not the greatest design Apple has come up with but not bad either. The one cable solution and ease of removal makes this case better than I have ever used hands down.

It is just that simple and smart.

This is what a battery case should be.

Easy to snap on, you don't need to worry about anything, and your phone will last longer. THat's it.

You can easily view the status in the notification screen.

It will know when to charge the battery or the phone. It will combine the different power saving features on the phone to let you use the phone longer.

You just plug it in and charge it.

mAh, how many charges, etc, don't really matter. What matters is a simple add on that will just let you use your phone longer, nothing else to think about.

It should be that smart and simple.

    Apple embarrassment !!

While the feel of the case is more pleasing than the third party producti i have used for years.... the case is just unreliable. Randomly and reguarly it will go from BOTH batteries fully charged... and 4 hours later the phone is dead. I strongly thing this case (may just be mine) drains the phone more than it adds to it. I gave 2 other cases to my sister and friend. They both report unimpressive experiences.

More thought = more customer service

First off I love this case. Feels good, works great and is very well made. I don't mind the bump. You have to give up something for extra battery life. But what really mugs me off is how Apple just keeps taking the mickey. You can only really use apples own headphones as no others fit. You can't even use the dr beats headphones and they own them. First they could have made it so the headphone socket is extended. But then they offer an adaptor for another £7. So they knew the issue then!? That's just taking the mickey guys. Like when you introduced the Lightning connector. If you just offer an adaptor with it, you know you can afford it in the price, you won't annoy customers. Never ever set out to annoy your customers guys. In the long term it will always impact your reputation. Always. Stop it. Think......

Works as battery case, but hurts usability.

Works as advertised and provides the extra juice I need to get through the day. However, I'm someone who previously didn't use a case at all. The added bulk and weight were enough to bother me and cause me to return it. Also, the silicone material made it very difficult to get in and out of my pants pocket, which I do throughout the day. Next phone, I'm just going to get the "Plus" version with its monster battery.
