The overhang makes the volume control unusable

This cover, as many others have said, overhangs badly when open. Prevents use of the volume controls. Very poor for the price

    What The **** Happened Here

Brought this whilst on vacay in Canada

From day 1 I was unsure about it, after a few days my ipads fallen off it several time, the magnet are so weak.

Going to be escalating a complaint to Apple shortly, mainly because my iPad Pro has now sustained a tiny but notable injury due to failure of this product.

    Piece of junk - AVOID

Got this for my tablet, and doesn't do what it says, doesn't close the ipad, doesn't even stay flat on the ipad as it's supposed to, doesn't work as a stand and falls off easily
    AVOID AVOID AVOID
waste of money, too bad I can't give it negative rating, because that's what it deserves
The old cover that they don't make anymore was so amazing, bring those back!

Smart Cover Works Fine - Just Make Sure You Buy the Right One

I bought a new 9.7 inch iPad Pro and a cover at my local Best Buy and had the same problem reported by several reviewers here. The cover would not stay on and would not turn the device off when closed. I took it back to the store and discovered that they sold me the wrong cover. Even though their info indicated that the cover would fit the 9.7 iPad Pro, it did not work. They exchanged it for the correct cover and now it works fine. There is no need to have the silicone cover for the back of the device, though it is nice. Just make sure the front of the packaging states "iPad Pro Smart Cover" and the back of the packaging for states "Made for iPad Pro (9.7 inch)"

    Cover won't stick.

Just bought a new IPad Pro and cover. The magnet side will not hold weight of cover to the iPad. Returned this one and received a replacement. Same issue. The cover falls off once you uncover the iPad. I tested this first at my Apple Store and it held. Not sure why it won't stick to my Pro. I would not even rate this as a one but it needs a star.

    Absolute rubbish

Appalled that Apple could sell this load of tat. I have the Smart Cover and silicone back at a hugely inflated price. I had an older iPad that had the cover in one piece that was much better. The new iPad accidentally fell on the floor and to my horror the cover covering the screen came off exposing the screen, the only good side was that the screen did not break. I wish I had brought a third party cover that would have been much better and loads cheaper. The joint cover cost £118.00 and I think Apple should refund the monies on this sub-standard product. Apple hang your head in shame. The iPad is Apple at its best. Let's hope Apple refund me. Here's hoping. :)

    Really great accessory

I love the way the magnets work on both the front and back of my iPad pro. Continues to have the excellent stand capabilities of the original Smart Cover with the additional perk of propping it at the perfect angle for sketching and illustration. The build quality is great. My only complaint is it should be 10-15$ less expensive, but that's the same with almost every Apple accessory.

Looks nice; hard to open with case

The cover looks and feels nice, and is the high quality one would expect of an Apple product.

When used with the matching case, it can be difficult to actually open the cover. The edge of the case is higher than the screen, and the edge of this cover fits right into the lip the case forms, so there's no real edge to lift up on and nothing to grab. I basically have to try to shove a fingernail between the edge of the cover and the case and hope I can pry up enough to release the magnetic seal.

It works perfectly...albeit the overlap and price

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: I came to a iPad Pro 9.7 inch from my original iPad Air. In the Apple Store, on the same day, I decided to buy this alongside my iPad Pro 9.7 inch. I had read the reviews and was thinking "Who cares about the overlap and I'll pay premium for a good product." Until I arrived home, restored my iPad from a backup and started using it.

    PROS:

The extended fabric between the hinge and the cover (to make it fit perfectly with the silicon case) actually make the iPad lean back further and make it more stable if you are using it naked like me. It's definitely noticible after using my iPad Air Smart Cover with my iPad Air for nearly three years.

The silicon makes the iPad more grippy when carrying - especially when using it in cold environments and I can enjoy the extra grip when I'm using my iPad if I put the cover behind iPad.

The microfibre on the inside of the cover can be used to clean the screen if you detach the cover and wipes the screen with it.

    CONS:

The first thing I notice was the overlap. In the Apple Store a few days later I tried on a silicon case and there was no overlap using that. So this was designed for people who would buy a silicon case with the Smart Cover? What about people like me who pay AUD $75 for a piece of silicon instead of AUD $184 for two pieces of silicon? There could at least be two versions.

Next. Price and materials. I didn't mind the price at the time of purchase as there really were not many other cases to highlight how overpriced this is. There were only a few third party alternatives I considered at the time of purchase. However there were not many choices. It was basically this, the silicon case, Smart Keyboard, Logitech's keyboard folio or a cheap case off eBay that comes from China. I chose the Smart Cover and a cheap silicon back cover from China. But now, there are many alternatives including one that makes my wallet mad at me. The Sena Vettera folio case is just AUD $50 more yet it offers front and back protection as well as being made from handcrafted leather. I'm glad I didn't buy a silicon case or I would've just spent AUD $184 on a front and back SILICON case. I'm buying a Sena Vettera folio now. Oh and did I mention that this case uses a smaller magnet then the iPad Air one and should be cheaper? Instead it got bumped from AUD $45 to $75.

Durability. My old iPad Air Smart Cover lasted about a year and 4 months before completely coming apart. Luckily an apple authorised reseller was doing a clearance and I got another one for AUD $24 - I luckily didn't go to an Apple Store and pay AUD $45. So this year I payed AUD $75 and after only two drops and a few months of careful usage the joints between the three folds of the cover are getting torn and the silicon that joins the hinge to the cover are starting to tear. This might not even make a year at this rate and I only dropped my iPad Twice on the CORNER and not the FACE of the cover.

If I had written this review a few months ago it would've been five stars as my cover wouldn't be ripping apart and the third party cases wouldn't be highlighting how overpriced this is.

Excellent product for the iPad Pro

Do not pay attention to the one star reviews. They are from people whom only bought the 'cover' and expect it to function as a complete 'case' for the iPad, without buying the Apple Silicone Cover for the iPad Pro. The smart cover and silicone cover are designed to work together, to provide a complete front and back protection for the iPad Pro. The smart cover fits perfectly with the silicone cover. It is actually a better design than the previous one piece smart cover for the iPad Air. I was skeptical at first, but after I bought both for my iPad Pro, I really like it much better. The iPad stands perfectly in either position, upright or lower angled. The one star reviews are from people that do not understand how to use the product. The silicone gives the iPad a nice grip in your hand too. I wish they were combined together for a lower price, but it is still the best case solution for the iPad without adding significant weight or bulkiness.

    Great product

The Smart Cover and case fit perfectly together. I wasn't sure if I would like this 2 piece design but works great together. Case keeps back of iPad from being so slippery and both cover and case have a wonderful soft almost luxurious feel.

I bought midnight blue color and like it a lot. Magnets keep cover firmly attached to case when I am using iPad. Wonderful design. Very happy with this product.

Was this tested before GA? I find it hard to believe it passed the 'functions as stand' QA tests.

    Low quality

I have now had the smart cover for a few months. It is of very poor quality. Even if it fit at first, it stretched out from normal use (didn't even take the thing outside of my apartment) and fits very badly now. It's useless as a stand since the viewing angle has changed considerably. I contacted Apple about this and they did not stand by their product. Please save your money and spend it elsewhere.

    This case is horrendous

Apple finally got it right when the smart cases were released for the iPad Airs, after the clunkiness and weirdly sharp rubber edges of the first iPad's case. The cover Apple released for the second iPad was cool since it could stand, but didn't protect the back or edges from scratches/falls/etc. and now we've returned to that cover that no one really used since it was pointless, except this time it's more expensive, only available in silicone, almost a centimeter too wide for the screen. Wow.

    Horrible

I've owned almost every version of the iPad and I like to use it with a cover only (and not a case). But this ridiculously fitting, loose, wobbly cover extends over the edge and will drive you insane unless you pair it with the full case. After a week of use, it actually made me so frustrated that I not only took the cover back... but I took my new iPad Pro back as well! The cover is just as important to me as the device, and I realized that I'd rather just keep my iPad Air 2 with its perfectly fitting smart cover. So thanks Apple for purposely making a cover for the new device which can't be used by itself... you just saved me over $1,000 and made me realize I'm perfectly happy with my iPad Air 2. :-)

9.7' iPad Pro Smart Cover - too big...

I've just upgraded to the iPad Pro from an iPad Air and am really disappointed with the cover. The old one was fantastic, keeping the screen protected while keeping it slim and providing a stand. When I put the new one on the pro I thought that they'd sent me a poor one, but reading the reviews it's obvious they've changed the size to fit the back cover rather than a 'virgin' iPad. It seems to be no use as a cover as it flops around while its on and It feels like a second rate ill thought out design, either that or they're trying to push people to buy a back cover - which I neither want or need. If you're thinking about buying one of these make sure you test one and check you're happy with it before buying - mine is going to go back I'm afraid...

    Oversized, awkward to use

The cover is oversized and unusable with the additional back case.
Feels awkward and annoying unlike smart covers for ipad air 2.
