    Really wanted to like this...

Bought both the silicone Smart Cover and the silicone back for my new iPad Pro 9.7". I ended up not using the back because I wanted to use my device naked, but I wanted to keep the Smart Cover for propping up the device. This is when I noticed the Smart Cover was a bit wider than the iPad itself causing it to be uncomfortable to hold both with the flap on front and folded to the back.
I recall previous iPad smart covers were perfectly flush with the device itself but I assume Apple designed the iPad Pro Smart Cover to only be flush with the silicone back.
Ended up returning both. I really hope Apple makes a set of smart covers that sit flush with the edge of the iPad if they choose not to get the back portion.

    Too Big!

Not a good fit like previous generations, way too big, returned to store.

Worst assumption of what's good for users

Smart cover makes the 9.7 Pro look like a loser wearing someone else's clothes. Not at all comfortable to hold. I'm sure I dont want to cover my iPad with a extra silicone case. Extremely disappointed with the product. Hope Apple respects customer preferences.

    Glad I kept the box

Had to be the most awkward cover I've ever owned. It doesn't fit and moves around far too much when holding. Unfortunately I'll now need to look in to 3rd party options. It's a shame as the Air2 leather cover was amazing.

    Give us a choice

Why does Apple assume that everyone wants to cover the back of their iPad with a silicone cover? Why would want to hide the beautiful rosegold or gold under a piece of plastic? Give us a cover that fits the iPad the way every top cover has fit in the past and I'll be the first to buy one.

Junk compared to previous leather cover

First, it doesn't fit. It's too big, as if the cover was made by some knock off company before they knew the actual dimensions of the iPad Pro 9.7". I'm surprised Apple cannot measure their own iPad.

Second, compared to the leather cover I had on my previous 3rd gen iPad, this is poorly constructed. My old leather cover had a metal hinge that was much nicer than this bendy section of rubber / silicon that stretches and folds around the edge.

The only nice thing about this cover is that when you open it, the edge of the cover magnetically holds to the back of the iPad so it doesn't flop around. That's actually a really nice feature my gen 3 leather cover didn't have (this is why I give it 2 stars instead of 1).

I guess this will work for now and I'll hope for a better quality leather cover in the near future... Preferably one that fits!

I normally don't write reviews but I saw all the negative comments and felt that a real review was needed. First I would say this cover is absolutely perfect. It is made to fit with the silicone case so for everyone that says it fits weird, or hangs over, they clearly didn't read anything before purchasing. I have the silicone case and the fit is precise. The ONLY thing I can say that is bad about the case is it seems very expensive but you really do get what you paid for so there's that. The magnets inside keep it closed and when it is folded they keep it together nice and snug. If you are going to get the case or this cover I would recommend getting the case first simply because the cover will be slightly larger than the screen and is fitted for the cover. All in all great product and the quality is even better in person.

    Looks fabulous but!!!

I do love the colours that are available for the cover and the case and the fit is lovely and snug, but colours aren't everything. I have just bought the new iPad. My previous version had the case and cover combined (no longer an option with an apple product I think) so the cover could be, and often was, used to hold the iPad while moving it around or taking photos. The iPad never ever came apart from the case/cover. I automatically thought I'd be able to do the same with this case and cover. NO!!! The cover comes away from the iPad and the iPad goes tumbling to the floor. EEK!!! So far no damage appears to have been done but it's a scary thought. And when one adds up the cost of both items they don't come cheap. Not good enough Apple!

At first I was a little Leary about purchasing a silicone product rather than leather. I've had leather cases on all my previous iPads and iPhones. I bought the gray one and along with the Smart Cover and am very impressed with the quality. Yes, it may be a little expensive, but the fit and finish of these products are outstanding. Compared to the leather case for iPad Air two, it's a slimmer fit and really feels good. The cover closes perfectly. I bought this with the intent of just using it until something better in leather was made. The will be the only one I need. Thank you apple!

It just doesn't fit the iPad Pro 9.7 without the silicone case

I've just bought an iPad Pro 9.7 and was looking to protect the glass while keeping the back free.
Past smart covers fitted the iPads very well but it is unfortunately not the case of this one. When in place, the cover sticks out at least 3mm on the right end side. This will not be a problem if you also buy the back silicone cover but if you don't have a back silicone cover, the extra 3mm look a bit weird. It makes it easier to open the cover but it will also be easier for it to open without you noticing which will probably result in screen damages.
At this price range, the Smart Cover should fit the new iPad like a glove - Apple, you must release a new Smart Cover for people who aren't planning to buy the back silicone case.

What kind of joke is this?

All cover for my ipad fit perfectly, but this for the "best" iPad in this time fit like i made it homemade from plastic at night without light. Whats wrong? Please fix it and give as "normal" one what will be really for iPad 9.7...

    Doesn't fit and slides around

Clearly designed to only fit properly with the back cover, neither the back cover or Smart Cover look ok without the other, why even sell them on their own?? The need to make a separate smart case and make these accessories actually fit on their own. Not impressed. Wonder if the iPad Air Smart Cover fits better??

    Horrible Design

The edge of the iPad Smart Covers for all three of my previous generation iPads were always flush with the edge of the iPads themselves. The Smart Cover for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a lip that hangs over the edge of the iPad. Horrible design. I expect a lot more from Apple. As such, I'm returning both the cover and the iPad Pro. Very disappointing.

    Doesn't fit

I wanted to love this cover, but it doesn't fit the iPad Pro 9.7". Apple says it does, but it laps over the edge making for an ugly appearance. I hope the redesign it in the future.

    Terrible. Apple is slipping.

Unlike previous versions which fit perfectly on the iPad Air and iPad Air 2, this smart cover hangs over the edge of the iPad instead of meeting right along the edge. Evidently this was done on purpose so that it would fit better with the silicon back cover, which I am not interested in using. It also blocks the volume button when open and folded behind the screen. Apple is definitely slipping to ship something with such obvious flaws. I am not looking for an alternative.

designed to fit with the silicone case

This cover fits and works perfectly.... BUT.... that's because it's designed to work with the silicone case. If you don't use the back cover then you will get the over hang other reviews mention. It's costly to buy both but I'm glad I did.

    Cover plus case

I bought this cover to use with the silicone Apple case. Together they fit extremely well. It offers no shock protection. The cover and case are best used for home use on your couch. Extremely overpriced for what it is.

A great addition to my new iPad Pro.

I purchased this Smart Cover to help protect my new iPad Pro and I am very pleased with it. It fits perfectly to my new device and does a great job in protecting the front of the iPad and with the soft inside of it, it all so helps keep the screen clean.

Well designed and a great product.

Poorly described product. Clearly designed to work alongside the rear case for a perfect fit. Combined price of both is appalling.
As previous comments, used on its own has an overhang on the opening side, yet the picture on the box indicates a flush edge. I'd avoid this unless you plan on buying both parts of the case.

    Pricey, But Ok Case Option

My review of both the silicone case and smart case for the iPad Pro 9.7 is a mixed bag. I've owned the previous cases offered by Apple, which were a 1-piece set, made of leather. In contrast, this option is a 2 piece set, with no 1 piece set option, and instead of made of the high quality leather, its made of silicone this time, and the combo is $40 MORE than the previous leather option. That's right, its no longer made of leather, but made of silicone, yet $40 more than it previously was. Also, I don't like that it no longer comes in black, so I got Charcoal Gray. The case is also more slippery than the previous leather version, and it is noticeably heavier, despite the iPad Pro 9.7 itself being lighter than previous iPads.

Now for the good. The case is a great form factor, keeping the profile slim, but it feels protective. I'm probably going to keep it, as it does look good, and I haven't really found any other cases that I like. As far as whether or not I recommend it, I can't do that, but I can suggest you check it out in the store BEFORE purchasing to see if the weight, slipperiness, and everything else, makes it worth the high price.
