    Worth the plunge

I waited quite a while to buy AirPods. Initially, I had a hard time justifying the price for what I figured amounted to an expensive, Bluetooth-powered wireless equivalent to the free EarPods bundled in with every iPhone. I also wasn't crazy about controlling all aspects of my music via Siri. However, once the AirPods' double tap functionality was expanded to control music, and the Lightning EarPods' built-in DAC failed to impress, and I started noticing those clumsy wires more and more, and I lost my dongle... AirPods were looking much more attractive, so I took the plunge.

I should note that I'm relatively picky about headphones; the sound quality has to be there if I'm spending over a hundred dollars on any form of headphone/earphone. AirPods generally sound pretty great with every type of music I've thrown at them (quite similar to pre-Lightning EarPods with slightly fuller lows & mids,) but not up to the standards of similarly-priced in-ear monitors. However, when you consider the wireless nature and superior versatility, they add up to a solid value.

Initially pairing was fun in how simple it was -- open the case, and they're ready to go by the time they're in your ears -- but the simple & reliable pairing doesn't rate as appreciably as their versatility. Remove one AirPod to pause playback, or remove both to stop it. Put in only one AirPod to deliver stereo audio to one ear. Enjoy the same seamless simple pairing with all iCloud-connected devices. Charge them quickly with their conveniently small charging case, and don't ever really think about battery life. Double tap either AirPod to take a phone call on them. Use Siri for anything Siri can do.

I inadvertently put AirPods through the paces on the very first day; listened to plenty of music on my iPhone, used one AirPod for GPS dictation in the car (be responsible, here,) used the other AirPod to listen to a podcast while running errands & on the drive home, and took a great-sounding phone call somewhere in there. I spent the entire day enjoying my music and podcasts with absolutely no fuss, and no wires. No phone, even -- I controlled everything via tapping gestures & my Apple Watch. After that, I was sold. I couldn't enjoy this kind of versatility on a daily basis with a wired pair of earphones, and that's how the AirPods become worth their price.

I'd really like to give AirPods 4.5 stars in the end, but I can't. In the end, they're still Bluetooth-powered earphones. Just about any similarly-priced wired earphone will likely impress more in sound quality, but the keyword there is "wired" (plus, you lose out on the versatility.) Range is great -- I can roam my entire apartment within range -- but they don't eliminate the occasional shortcomings of Bluetooth as an audio transmission format. Latency is incredibly low, but they do "blip" from time to time, perhaps due to frequency over-saturation. Slightly distracting, and the only thing keeping AirPods from being simply perfect.

    Love these AirPods

they work so seamlessly with all my devices

they are really useful because my macbook pro has a headphone jack and my iPhone 7 doesn't, it makes it so much simpler rather than carrying around the adaptor or two sets of headphones

also the battery lasts for ages on a single charge

    well worth the $230 AUD

    unexpected awesomeness

totally unexpected how often i would use these. i walk my big dog and he can pull pretty hard and these babies still wont pop out. man actually might sound weird but the ability to change my shirt and completely forgot they were in my ear and didn't have to think about taking them off, psh freakin incredible. noise cancelling works a little too well. my range is my entire house and can take the trash out with it only cutting out for a second and then reconnecting without myself having to lift a finger. 5 out of 5 stars for the real i never review shib unless i really really want to. thanks apple

    Better than expected

When I read the initial reviews, I was not impressed. However recent reviews were much more positive - therefore my trying them out.

First, I am very pleased with how well the AirPods stay in my ears - something that's always been difficult for me for any earphones without clips that wrap around my ears. I've gone for two walks (90 minutes total) with no issues with the AirPods staying in place. The sound quali8ty and loudness seemed to rival any Bluetooth devices on the market, including the more expensive Beats.

Second, the ease of pairing the AirPods with my iPhone 8 Plus was as easy and foolproof as can be. Pairing them with the iPhone also made them accessible from the Apple Watch to easily change the volume and track being played.

Finally given that I'm a little hard of hearing, the AirPods played music louder than most devices out in the market. The sound quality was superb and exceeded most other Blueto9oth earphones on the market.

I'm very pleased with my choice to buy AirPods!

    Needs more development time.

I REALLY wanted to love these headphones. My plan was to use them at work with my pc and occasionally at home with my iPhone. Setup was easy enough, but from the day I started using them with my pc they would randomly just drop the signal. Sometimes 10-20 times a day. It wasn’t like they were connected, the sound would just cut out sometimes with no apparent reason. I talked with Apple support and they seem to think that it’s due to Bluetooth interference from other devices. I work in an office with a LOT of Bluetooth devices. Many of these are wireless headphones phones that are not Apple and work fine. It’s sad to think that the Apple AirPods can’t compete with other brands on all features. Due to mostly needing them at work and the issues I had, I returned them. Maybe they would work great for someone who just uses them with their iPhone. If you plan on using them around a lot of other Bluetooth devices, I highly do not recommend. I wish Apple wouldn’t release a product until it was totally ready in all situations. I hope they come out with a better version that is more equipped to work in a high tech office. They fit just like the regular earbuds which I like, but they were kind of awkward to take out of the case. You grab the part you put in your ear and you have to regrip in the stem every time you take them out of the case to put them in. Why can’t the stem be the accessible part from the case so you don’t have turn them around in your hand. Please make them better!

    Apple, you rock!

Bought the new wireless AirPods a month ago and I am so impressed, most earbuds don’t fit me properly these little beauties are snug, comfortable, super great sound and the compact charging holder keeps them always charged for days. Apple you have outdone yourself again, $219 is a deal for these, one of my favourite Apple products ever(after my air2 iPad). Very impressed with these, top shelf sound)

    Falling

Sound is great but they didn't stick to my (average, not ass's) ear. Always falling, maybe my 20's century born ears design was TOO old fashion?

Not as seamless as they claim

I've had the AirPods for over a year now and while they have held up ok, there are a couple of recurring issues they need to address. First and foremost, if you have multiple devices like the apple watch and iphone, the AirPods will have issues connecting with the watch if you do not deactivate bluetooth on your phone. I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me at the gym only to spend 10 minutes trying to get the AirPods to connect to the watch...very frustrating. The other issue is that the microphone has degraded to the point that I can no longer take a phone call using the AirPods. It used to be extremely sensitive and have great call quality so that the person with whom I was speaking could easily hear me; however, all of that has changed one year in. Now, they are practically useless and I have to either revert back to wired airbuds or just talk into the phone. For a price point this high, I would expect a lot more from this product and Apple. The sound is still good when it connects but not sure I would recommend this product until they fix the connection issue and degraded microphone performance.

    Best wireless headphones

I love how compact and small they are. This is the first truly wireless headphones I’ve ever used and I’m impressed.
    I highly recommend it.
I hope there will be software update to control the volume with gestures.

    Poor pairing. Good sound quality.

I’m not impressed by the AirPods. They do not work as advertised. Not easy to pair. It does pair with your device but not automatically most of the time. You have to pair it manually. When a call comes in , it takes it own sweet time to pair and answer. The sound quality is really good though.

    Apple failure

I think Apple should call the AirPods a failure. I am on my 3rd pair and after 5 months the 3rd pair will not hold a charge on the right side. This has been a continuing problem with each pair I have received. I’m sick of spending hours of my time at the Apple store with their so called Genius Bar trying to figure it out. These are totally not worth the high cost!!!

    The Best

I’ve owned just about every type of Bluetooth headphones ever made. These Apple AirPods are by far the best. They are thoughtfully and uniquely engineered and the connectivity is flawlessly integrated into the iPhone OS. They have a deep rich sound and fit into my ears perfectly. No problem running or working out like I thought might be the case.

    absolutely love em

I didn't expect them to be so fantastic. they don't quite fit snugly enough in my ears but it bought the EarBuddyz hooks that help them fit snugly in your ear and now I never about them falling out. they are so light that you just forget that you are wearing them!! and it's eerie at first how free you are to just walk around your apartment or office with these on but once you get used to it it's fantastic!

the only reason bluetooth is ok in my book.

Aside from the next day free shipping (2 day, arrived early)... and being impressed by the instant initial iPhone pairing, the auto on and off, and auto play when inserted into ears and the auto pause when you remove one to hear what someone is saying to you has just become the reason I cant talk down on Bluetooth. After owning WiFi speakers for the last few years (Sonos) the lack of Wifi instead of Bluetooth in a headphone/headset has made zero sense to me untill this moment. Apple totally impressed me with these features. I did not do much research on the AirPods, apple did an amazing Job on these. The sound is very impressive, currently playing the volume at around 55% and most sounds around me are drowned out, but can still hear if someone is trying to get my attention... as far as noise cancellation goes i prefer an over ear headphone, the air pods fit perfectly into my ears. Gym, Shopping, School work & most other daily activities should be just fine with these. Couldn't be happier!

    Flakey at best

I have gone through two pairs of these also resetting my phone software as new trying to get these things to work properly. I am still having the same problem and the more I use them the more problems I eventually have. I’ve had these things about three months and the problems I’m having are I am unable to activate Siri with the taps most of the time and when I answer with the headphones my phone automatically defaults to answer with the phones ear speaker so after answer I have to go in and tell it to push the sound to the AirPods. It seems like a big hassle. Now as I google it some have the same problems. Although I don’t like beats they are working much better.

    Unreliable

When they work they're great, but that's only about 80% of the time. For business I need to use an old earbud headset so I know they will always work.
