Why hasn't someone at Apple test driven this in the real world

    • Written by Michael C from Buderim

The star is for the Folio but here are some random thoughts. Just bought my 4th (and probably last Ipad) a 12.9" and looking for a case but reading between the lines there are a lot of disgruntled purchasers here. You wonder if real people test drive these things. Over $2K for a product and I cannot get a case/cover that will protect the thing and that has some style. The Apple keyboard case I looked at purchasing doesn't protect the edges of the product, like this Folio, and allows no place to store the pencil that is secure, at $300AUD, come on!! this is just crazy. I'll pay money for a good product but there are too many negatives here, and this 'smart folio' is another example of how this company is missing Steve Jobs. Sadly, Apple has run its course I think, and I say that as I go back to an Apple IIe. Even its multiport USBc connector I looked at purchasing in tandem with the 12.9" has detractors who have found the product not working in all three ports or not working after a period of time. That is simply a quality issue which should not occur with such an expensive product. I bought the iPad on a whim, and have been disappointed with some of the issues being raised, am hoping it will be half as good as my still working ipad pro, Air and original. End of negative thoughts, hoping for sunshine in two days when delivered. Buyers Remorse, no way!

    Poor design and expensive

    • Written by PJ T from London

The silicon material scratches and bruised easily. Less than 2 days of extremely careful handling and use (without even putting it into a bag to carry around), the outside of the folio is already covered in unsightly blemishes, looking battered, that are simply impossible to remove. In addition, the keyboard appears to have already imparted a permanent scratch to my iPP screen. Considering how expensive this is, I would have expected it to be made of a better material and, not to mention, the keyboard design that scratches despite handing my new iPP with extreme care!

    Good Case!

    • Written by Eren K from London

    A good case!
Stays in place firmly thanks to the magnets throughout the ipad’s metal frame, and the ipad does not slip out.
Edges are not sharp as other reviews were saying, edges are malleable and soft, and bend without much force
The exposed edges of the ipad have a small bit of protection, a small lip from the smart folio.

    Pros:
    -Soft to the touch
-Covers both sides of the iPad
-Easy acess to volume buttons, power buttons, and charging port
    -Provides moderate protection
-Microfibre inside for screen and back of the iPad
    -Allows charging of Apple Pencil

    Cons:
    -Price
-3 edges of the iPad are exposed

Overall i really like it, it’s like an upgraded version of the smart cover - with a back, and i do think it will stand the test of time. (But let’s see)

    Better than expected

    • Written by Nicholas A from Vancouver

After reading some reviews, I was worried this case wouldn’t be as I hoped. Turns out, this case is just fine. I do not find the edges to be sharp, nor have I had any issues with the magnets or smudging. While I do miss the previous style “Smart Cover”, and would have enjoyed a leather version, this cover more than satisfies my needs.

    Poor Quality

    • Written by Akul M from Indianapolis

For $99 the quality of the folio should be phenomenal, but there are signs of discoloration on the front and the back in the form of giant patches.

    Excellent cover

    • Written by Jared L from Salt Lake City

This is an excellent cover. Very protective, I love the magnetic connection. It is very secure, I dropped this just hours after buying it and the rigid edge protected my iPad Pro from any and all potential damage. I love the feel of the cover and the ease of removal from the case as well. A little pricey but with all things apple, its price is justified by its quality.

NOT what you expect from apple - POOR design.

    • Written by Brad V from Swansea

I was eager to get a new case for my iPad Pro (3rd Gen) as it’s fairly new there’s not a lot of choice but opted for the apple version to complement the iPad.
£99 is a lot to pay for a case but if it protects it it’s worth the money, this apple case however offers NO protection for the iPad. The silicone feels great but the overall case feels poor and ill fitting almost like the case design was rushed, when the cover is open and folded back it doesn’t always sit correctly and feels a bit flimsy.
On a plus......The case does however still show off the beauty of the iPad and is quick to remove and place back on.
Overall a very poor case, no protection of iPad and not worth £99 not the usual apple “well designed/engineered” product i was hoping for.

    Sharp edges and overpriced.

    • Written by Jonathan C from Broomfield

I just bought a 12.9 inch IPP and this cover, and it’s easly the most uncomfortable iPad cover I’ve ever used. What were they thinking? That we want to hold a heavy device with razor sharp edges all day long? Seriously, you could slice veggies with this thing. Maybe that’s why they’re charging a hundred bucks for it. Total miss by Apple, Mine is going back.

    Lack of Protection and Overpriced

    • Written by Michael P from Portland

The iPad isn't fully covered with this case. It feels like two thick sheets of paper one each side. I would wait for a 3rd party Folio with better protection. I regret spending $100 on this case.

    Beautiful, light case

    • Written by Ravi T from Miami

I have owned almost every version of the iPad and many cases for each. This is the best case I have ever owned. It looks great, it is very light and thin and the magnetic method of attachment is ingenious. It cleans very easily and because it has no sides it adds very little bulk to the sleek 3rd generation iPad. I notice is protrudes very slightly at at sides. Hopefully this is enough for protection in falls.

    Falling Apart

    • Written by Matthew G from Orlando

The sides of the cast have begun separating after only one month of use, exposing the white plastic that forms the folding portion of the case. Extremely disappointed.

    Great, but not made well

    • Written by Trevor F from Milford

Love the case, I always got smart covers and wasn’t too sure about having the back on there too but it’s nice and keeps the back scratch free... issue is for the price it’s made terribly. I got mine on launch day and the felt is separating from the silicone or whatever edges and the edges are becoming wrinkled just from holding the iPad...

Does what it says on the tin

    • Written by Thomas S from LEEDS

I was curious about how well this would attach to the iPad, but because the camera pertrudes, this also keeps the back of the case in place. The front does have a little movement, so you can end up catching a corner of your iPad on a surface, but the case has a little lip that sticks out further than the iPad to help protect it. Feels good, works well.

    Not great...

    • Written by Aaron M from Richmond

Unlike the previous generation, this one seems to have sharp edges and is not that comfortable to hold.
It also adds bulk and weight since it's now double the size of the previous generation.
I wish Apple would offer a single side version, preferably in leather; I suppose it will be more challenging to design because of the ipad's reduced thickness.
One positive thing is that it's more secured than the previous generation when you use the stand option, since it's less likely to disengage unexpectedly.
It's not bad, still very good quality, but just not great overall.

Works, but too bulky and heavy

    • Written by GLADE S from salt lake city

The new iPad Pro is so light and thin that it’s a shame they didn’t make a screen-side-only cover. This adds 0.49 lbs to a 1.4 lb device. Unnecessary, but I suspect it was done to address the camera bump. The keyboard folio is even worse. I hope they redesign both down the road.

Expensive and not leather plus sharp edges to boot.

    • Written by Darren P from Biggar

I travelled 40 miles to purchase one of the new iPad Pro 12.9 models. To say i was disappointed with the cover is an understatement.
I have 2 iPad Air 2’s and the covers are great. They are covered by leather on all sides. I was expecting the same for the latest cover but sadly no. I cannot comprehend why you should bring a silicone cover out that has uncomfortable sharp edges. Maybe Apple think you will buy it any way and then update to the leather when there is one available. I do not trust Apple anymore, it is a shame.

I dearly miss the old iPad Smart Cases.

    • Written by Garo Y from West Grove

This case is very well put together and feels like it's made of the same high tech silicone material Apple uses for its watch bands. Not overly rubbery, as previous synthetic cases were.

That being said, I miss the days of being able to purchase a full front and back genuine leather iPad "Smart Case." They retailed at less than these non-leather replacements. Those leather cases wore beautifully and developed a great patina with use. And they protected all sides of the iPad, which these new folios don't. However, I start thinking about Apple's new (and unfortunate) pricing scheme and wonder what they would have charged for a leather version today?!!!

Aesthetically, I'm tired of the dark gray after having it on my old iPad as well. I would have gone with white but I didn't want to have to clean it all the time. Why not offer ProductRed, or simply black? I also am shocked that Apple left their iconic logo off of the back of the folio. I always thought the logo added a touch of class, and I do miss it.

    Simple Smart Folio

    • Written by Mark J from Seattle

It’s difficult to really review this product until I have the iPad Pro 12.9” to put into it, but it seems to be simple and effective. Seems it will attach to the back of the iPad with magnets, leaving the side exposed for the pencil to connect to. That should be cool and one of the best features of the new iPad Pro models. I’m just a little disappointed in the dull colors offered and also that there is no  logo on the back (I assume this is related to making the back connect securely). I’ll update this review after to get my new iPad on November 7.

$200 for a case is ridiculous

    • Written by Michael T from Christchurch

This is a simple case to protect the iPad and the price is outrageous. Not justified and completely out of kilter for Apple. It is not worth the money.
