Amazing ergonomics but software integration leaves a lot to be desired

    • Written by Kyle R from LOS ANGELES

Feels great in the hand but I wish you could control more with tap/swipe gestures. For example a swipe to switch between apps or control volume or the navigation bar. Also I wish there was a prompt on every app that support the pencil; I find myself not knowing what it can and can’t do.

Inconsistencies and various issues, yet an item I can’t do without.

    • Written by Kelly H from Abingdon

1st let me just say that I love my Apple Pencil 2 and can’t live without it. There are some major issues with it though. I am on my 4th Apple Pencil since dec 2018 because it is nearly impossible to keep up with since No ONE has developed an adequate case that both protects the Pencil and the iPad while letting the pencil charge and pair. Pairing itis inconsistent from pencil to pencil. 2 of the apple 2 pencils stayed charged and paired, while the one have now and the 2nd one I had must be paired and charged each and every time. This means I have to go through the hassle of taking my iPad out of th case leaving Ieaving it vulnerable. Also the 1st Apple Pencil worked more consistent in making the different types of of marks. Lastly, I’m very upset that insurance is available for those who buy an iPad Pro and pencil 2 together now, but that it wasn’t when I bought them together. Best Buy informed me that neither them nor apple will allow me to get apple care at this point( I was willing to let them inspect to assure them that both the iPad and pencil were still in flawless condition.

I purchase the 2nd gen pencil for my iPad Pro, I really liked it until it detached from my iPad and now I can’t find it. The magnet is not strong enough

Works Flawlessly with iPad Pro, With One Minor Problem

    • Written by Paxton W from Johnstown

This product works great with my iPad Pro. It is just like using a regular pencil, but it is more intuitive and more fun to use. I also love that you can charge, store, and pair it by clicking it to the top of your iPad. It really is a genius product. The only thing I can say otherwise about the product is that it seems to make brown marks on the magnet part of it where you store it, when it’s stored. I don’t know if that is the magnet coming out of its shell, or what it is, but there are some brown marks.

    5-star hardware, 3-star firmware

    • Written by Chris S from St Ives

Beautifully weighted, tactile and precise. The matte finish provides better grip than the v1.

Firmware loses one star for not offering gestures beyond the double tap, and loses another for registering phantom double-taps and switching to the eraser randomly.

Both these issues can be resolved with firmware / software updates so I hope these come in an update soon.

Overall, the combination of iPad, pencil, Paperlike screen protector and Notability is still the ultimate digital notebook in my opinion.

    Not worth it

    • Written by Rodrigo C from Buenos Aires

Bought this acceaory for my iPad 6th generation.
Totally useless unless you use it to scketch and draw on the iPad. Otherwise too expensive and you won’t know what to use it for.

Nice improvement. Body is wearing thru.

    • Written by Charles S from Laguna Beach

I had the previous gen iPad pro and pencil. And this one is so much better with the magnetic mounting and wireless for charging and pairing. Have not had any issues with pencil becoming detached - stays in place for me. Sometimes I have to reattach to pair even though I just removed it.

One issue that I will bring to Appke store is the plastic body is wearing thru where the magnets are located and exposing the magnets. The exposed metal has not scratched the iPad body but I'm worried it will probably get worse.

    Excellent Pencil - Major improvement

    • Written by Emery K from Doylestown

The new Apple Pencil is excellent. I use it daily with no issues, long lasting, effective. Some people noted it will fall off, BUT only if hit or banged into. The magnet is firm, but not the way to carry out in the open, nor was it designed for that. I carry mine with my iPad in a bag as well as it't protective case. It works in a number of apps now and is excellent for taking notes. I use Notability. Recently at a seminar I used for 7 hours with no hitches and was able to take notes, highlight presentation, make network drawings, and sketches. It is a very pratical pen with great features. As more apps link into this fine device it will become 2nd nature. Upgrade, give us more commands, like double tap and triple tape to change additional functions. Take care of the Apple Pencil and it will serve you well.

I have multiple Apple Pencil 2

    • Written by Zhuoyan X from London

I understand both side of the reviews as I have multiple apple pencils 2 and iPad.

In general its a remarkable product that light years ahead of other drawing products. It’s very smooth and intuitive.

But yes, out of many Apple Pencil 2 I have, one of the pencil just don’t stick on iPad that well.

Sometime it does have connectivity issues (can be resolved with a simple repair)

    Easy To Losd

    • Written by Mister N from Mesa

It's cheap, fragile, and you can lose it quickly. It's an expensive product that wasn't designed with a place for your pencil. Most cases aren't even built for the 2nd generation pencil to sync/charge-up with the Ipad. The cases for the pencil are also flimsy & also increases the chances of losing your pencil.

Good tool, why no extra tip?

    • Written by Kieran G from Droitwich

Great tool, good precision. No extra tip like the previous version which is annoying because I dropped my pencil and had to get a replacement tip (some advice, don’t drop the pencil on concrete). Would have thought, at this price point, an extra tip is pittance to Apple, oh well. Magnets in the iPad hold the pencil strongly, however, one can still knock the pencil off, like I did, if given enough of a whack. The original tip that came with the product seemed to be missaligned slightly with the body where you could feel the ridge of the tip on one side and the ridge of the body on the other. Since getting a new tip this seems to have gone, I don’t know if the previous tip was manufactured wrong or the drop realigned the inside?

    No swipe up!?

    • Written by Jill T from Houston

COME ON APPLE! I would for sure rate this pencil five stars if you could only swipe up to the home position with it. It is so annoying to be flawlessly movin around with the pen and then have to use your thumb to swipe up (definitely a first world problem here). It ruins an otherwise streamlined experience. I believe this is to prevent accidental swipes while coloring. Really? A least give us the option to turn this feature on or off. PLEASE fix this with the next update!

Apart from that, I have no issues. It connects, sticks, charges, writes... all flawlessly. If I were engineering it I might make the diameter slightly smaller but I’m very pleased with it overall. Other than the glaring problem I mentioned which truly makes me not even want to use it.

Okay disconnects frequently. Easy too loose.

    • Written by Denise W from Renton

Despite the fact it's easy to loose it disconnects frequently and the only way to charge it is to plug it into your apple device. There is no other way to charge it. Your Apple product fails to display the full battery percentage and often doesn't display it until it reaches less than 20% or almost dead. I wish there was a way to plug it into a wall plug to charger. I fear it will break off easily in the charging port to the device. When it's charging in the device you can't use the Apple product due to the fact it will probably brake off in it if not careful. It does okay. Apple developed programs do not use the full potential of the pencil. Okay for art work and lacks the feel of a real pencil or medium.

    Connectivity issues

    • Written by Dino H from Surfers paradise

This is my second one of these and it’s having the same fault. It seems to have connection issues or something, when using it for example to draw a straight line a bunch of dashed lines appear instead. The problem goes away when I unpair it and pair it again. But the problem seems to come back almost hourly! Very disappointing considering the price of the iPad Pro and this accessory. Would return the lot for a refund in a second if I hadn’t filled my iPad with such a lot of data. Definitely don’t recommend buying one, just wait until they workout all these kinks.
It is great to use, and makes a lot of apps easier to use for the one hour or so it works.

    Easily lost

    • Written by Michael J from Eatons Hill

For the price of it its very easy to lose. There's no find my pencil (like earbuds) and the magnetness isn't that great it easily gets knocked off when tucking into the back of an airline seat.

There's very few cases for the new ipad pros around that cater for the pencil.

Better in every way over first generation Pencil

    • Written by Robert M from Brunswick

I completely enjoyed using my original first generation Apple Pencil with an iPad Pro 9.7". The new second generation Apple Pencil has improved even more. From pairing, charging, storing, and using the Pencil, this new design is even better than before. I enjoy the feel and weight of the Pencil and find using it with an iPad Pro 11" to be perfect. My most used Pencil enabled app is Paper and I'm truly loving the new Pencil for sketching in it. The ability to double tap the Pencil to switch tools is wonderful. Very well done, Apple!

    First Impressions Not Great

    • Written by Tom B from Nedlands

Couldn’t get the pencil to pair with my iPad in spite of the best efforts of the remote Apple Support team. Back to the Apple Store to replace it. Hopefully second time lucky. This is my first experience of a dud Apple product in maybe 18 years, but frustrating nonetheless.
