Q: Mail keeps asking for my MobileMe password?  What do I do?

Mail keeps asking for my MobileMe password.  The application began rejecting my existing password on June 15.  I received a reminder from iCloud on June 13 advising me about a required app-specific password from June 15 on.  The message also said that that password would be required for third-party apps or other mail, contacts, and calendar services not provided by Apple.  Does Apple regard my MacBook Pro1,2, MacOS 10.6.8, and the associated Mail application, version 4.6, to be third-party?  What do I do?
