If you want to place your iMac on a desk, choose a standard iMac.
While both the standard glass and nano-texture glass options of iMac are engineered for extremely low reflectivity, it helps to consider your work environment when deciding which one is right for you.
If you’re in a particularly variable lighting environment, there’s an innovative matt option with nano-texture glass. Typical matt displays have a coating added to their surface that scatters light. However, these coatings lower contrast while producing unwanted haze and sparkle. The nano-texture on iMac is actually etched into the glass at the nanometre level. The result is a screen with beautiful image quality that maintains contrast while scattering light to reduce glare to the barest minimum.
The processor orchestrates all the tasks performed by the hardware and software that make up your iMac. So the more powerful your processor, the faster your iMac will get things done. With the standard 8-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz, you can easily power through a demanding workflow. And it takes advantage of Hyper-Threading, a technology that kicks in when the processor is handling several big jobs at the same time. It lets each of the processor’s cores run two threads simultaneously, which means it can do two things at once.
Upgrading to the 10-core Intel Core i9 processor will take performance to an extreme level. With 10 cores running at 3.6GHz, and a Turbo Boost speed of up to 5.0GHz, it’s designed to handle your professional application workflows with substantially accelerated compute performance.
The 27-inch iMac has four memory slots and comes with at least 8GB of 2666MHz DDR4 memory installed. The more memory you choose, the more apps you can run simultaneously with a higher rate of performance. More memory (RAM) increases performance and enables your iMac to perform better and at a higher speed.
The standard memory configuration is perfect for day-to-day tasks such as email, word processing and web surfing, as well as complex tasks such as photo editing, creating illustrations or building presentations.
If you’re working on large projects in professional applications like Logic Pro X or Final Cut Pro X, upgrading your memory will help them run at peak performance. You can install additional memory in the free slots or replace the memory in the filled slots with 4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB memory modules, for up to 128GB of memory. For optimal memory performance when installing additional memory, match memory vendor, capacity and speed.
This 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display comes as standard with a discrete AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT graphics processor featuring 24 compute units paired with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. The discrete GPU delivers fast graphics performance, accelerating tasks like photo editing, 3D workflows and game development.
For faster performance and more graphics compute power, upgrade to the Radeon Pro 5700, which features 36 compute units paired with 8GB of GDDR6 memory.
For ultimate performance in graphics-intensive workflows, such as developing 3D content, editing videos with complex effects or designing high-resolution textures in games, the new Radeon Pro 5700 XT graphics option will offer a huge leap in graphics performance and productivity by offering 40 compute units and 16GB of GDDR6 memory.
This iMac comes as standard with 512GB of ultra-fast SSD storage for incredible performance. SSD storage delivers significantly improved performance compared to a traditional hard drive — speed you’ll notice when you start up your iMac, launch an app or browse your photo library. SSD storage uses no moving parts, so it operates silently.
For maximum capacity, you can configure this iMac with up to 8TB of storage, giving you abundant space for your documents, photos, music, videos and apps. Keep in mind that iMac storage is not user accessible. If you think you may need more storage capacity in the future, consider upgrading at the time of purchase.
Note: 1GB = 1 billion bytes and 1TB = 1 trillion bytes; actual formatted capacity less.
iMac has an incredibly diverse, versatile range of ports and connectivity options, allowing it to serve and adapt to a wide variety of situations and workflows.
iMac comes as standard with 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit (1Gb) Ethernet using an RJ-45 connector. For network connections that are up to 10 times faster, iMac has a 10Gb Ethernet option. The 10Gb Ethernet option supports Nbase-T industry-standard 1Gb, 2.5Gb, 5Gb and 10Gb network speeds using an RJ-45 connector. With 10Gb Ethernet, iMac will provide higher connectivity bandwidth for sharing files between desktops, working with high-performance network storage or handling large-capacity data loads.
Both Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 are wireless and rechargeable — so you won’t have to replace any batteries — and come paired with your iMac. Magic Mouse 2 comes standard with your iMac, or you can choose Magic Trackpad 2.
The design of Magic Mouse 2 lets it glide smoothly across your desk. And since it supports Multi‑Touch, you can use simple gestures on its surface to do things such as swipe between web pages and scroll through documents. So if you prefer using a wireless mouse but want some of the benefits of Multi-Touch, Magic Mouse 2 is a great choice.
If you prefer using a trackpad, Magic Trackpad 2 adds the full range of Multi-Touch gestures and Force Touch technology to the desktop. Sensors underneath the trackpad surface detect subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply, bringing more functionality to your fingertips and enabling a deeper connection to your content. The design also features a low profile, making it extremely comfortable to use.
Magic Keyboard comes as standard with your iMac. It’s wireless and rechargeable (so you won’t be replacing batteries), and its ultra-compact, edge-to-edge design wastes no surface space. Magic Keyboard has full-size function keys and a low profile that increases control and comfort. And it pairs automatically with your iMac straight out of the box.
Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad has an extended layout with document navigation controls for quick scrolling, full-size arrow keys and a numeric keypad. Like Magic Keyboard, it’s designed with a low profile for control and comfort. And the built-in, rechargeable battery lasts long enough to power your keyboard for about a month or more between charges.1
You can configure your iMac with one of the keyboard languages listed.³
macOS lets you choose your preferred language for use throughout the OS, including apps, menu bar, dialogue boxes, and for reading and writing text. Select any of the languages supported by macOS during the setup process at any time using System Preferences.
1. Testing conducted by Apple in April 2017 using preproduction Magic Keyboard devices, firmware, and software with shipping iMac systems. Testing consisted of full battery discharge while engaging the device on a paired iMac using automated equipment. Battery life depends on device settings, usage, and other factors.
