I bought this adapter because a similar adapter I got at the dollar store broke and I thought to get official apple. However, this adapter's sound is too quiet I bought this adapter because a similar adapter I got at the dollar store broke and I thought to get official apple. However, this adapter's sound is too quiet and not worth 20x more money (1 dollar vs 20 dollars). I bought another 1 dollar adapter and it worked much better than this apple useless.

Why does apple allow this to be sold?

I bought this adapter only b/c apple sold it. I only have lightening adapter, so I use a lightening to audio adapter, and then plug this into that. It plays I bought this adapter only b/c apple sold it. I only have lightening adapter, so I use a lightening to audio adapter, and then plug this into that. It plays for about two minutes, then stops and my phone says something about the device being unsupported. Avoid this at all costs. I've also used a Belkin with the same results. Apparently there are no splitters that work with the lightening port. Thanks Apple.
