This is to accommodate the "hump" on the keyboard when you close it. The keys are in no danger of touching the screen, as the keyboard rests on the outside rim of the case. It works perfectly if you usually cram your iPad into a cramped backpack, and the iPad Pro is protected really well. In a nutshell its designed to close by pulling the iPad down onto the keyboard, then closing the kickstand (like closing the screen on a MacBook etc.) The stand uses spring hinges, so its fully adjustable from roughly 20 degrees to 110 degrees. This is really nice when using the keyboard on varied surfaces as you can angle it perfectly (i.e. Your lap, a bar table, etc.) The pencil holder works fine too--no risk of it falling out. The real standout however, is the keyboard itself. The fact that its backlit, uses the smart connector and has iPad specific keys (Home, search, screen lock) plus the usual--brightness, play/pause, volume, keyboard brightness is awesome. The keyboard starts to dim after not touching it for 5 seconds, then totally fades out after 8-10. Touching any key again and it's back on (not instant on, it just brightens back up very quickly, like maybe a full second, looks nice). I think once iOS 11 rolls out this keyboard case will be perfect for someone who is looking to replace the functionality of a MacBook. When I traveled in the past I would need to take my MacBook Air and my iPad Air 2...Then for short trips I was able to just use my iPad Pro 9.7...It was great in a pinch but still couldn't replace my MacBook because the keys are cramped, its not backlit etc, not to mention the lack of functionality in iOS. If I needed to work for more than an hour at a time I would borrow my wife's MacBook Air. Not the case for this keyboard--it is very comfortable to work with for long periods of time. Once iOS 11 goes live this case, along with my LTE iPad Pro should allow me to finally mothball the MacBook Air.

A little background to start...I'm coming from an iPad Air 2 where I used a Belkin Qode Ultimate Pro keyboard case that I absolutely loved. It added protection as well as a great keyboard with little bulk. Plus the iPad itself was fully detachable in a very slim case. I thought I'd get the same from Logitech but calling this case "slip" is a cruel joke. For some reason it's designed to have about 3mm of open space between the keyboard and iPad when closed--it's thicker than my macbook pro. Add to that the keyboard and case itself are very bulky and cheap feeling and this thing is really unacceptable. When detached the separate case on the iPad itself has a huge lip around all sides which makes it very uncomfortable to use and the kickstand feels like it will break. I wish there was a better option like my old Belkin that offered a lighted keyboard with function keys and little bulk. The apple keyboard cover is too flimsy for my use (and there's no pencil holder or back cover!) but it may be my temporary solution until something better comes along.

It's made out of a hard plastic material that feels absolutely cheap considering how much you pay for the case. Perhaps worst of all though, the case sticks out a couple inches from the top of the iPad, it fits horribly! Plus, the keyboard has this weird black protrusion it the top of it, not sure if it's a battery or what. Weighs way too much and adds way too much bulk, the kickstand feels like it may break any second. I hope they make an effort to re-engineer it but until then, I won't be keeping it. Don't buy this case!

One small detail they forgot to pay attention to was the magnet connection between the keyboard and the case. It is extremely week to the point that they detach while just folding them. Horrible

The magnet that joins the ipad to the keyboard is very weak. One can easily knock the ipad off of the keyboard and there risking it to drop/break. You can forget about using it on your lap...falls down. The smart connect is excellent, the fitting is very good, but I cannot live with such a poor design to hold the ipad and keyboard together. I wish that Logitech would have the "Create" model available using the smart connector. Now that would be a great combo.

      Disappointing

I’m a big fan of Logitech normally. But the ‘Slim Combo’ wasn’t right for me. The Keyboard is great, up to Logitech’s normal standards. But the whole ‘combo’ I’m a big fan of Logitech normally. But the ‘Slim Combo’ wasn’t right for me. The Keyboard is great, up to Logitech’s normal standards. But the whole ‘combo’ as a case to carry the iPad around in is poor. It is heavier than expected and feels cumbersome. When you want to open it and lift up the keyboard to use it, it’s not intuitively obvious which way round everything is. Worst of all, although the keyboard is hinged to the smart connector, it does not clip onto the base. Instead, it slides around, and comes off completely and all too easily, usually when you don’t want it too. It’s a shame, but this one needs more thought. I took it back within 24 hours for a refund.
