  • Overview

The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone trips over it, the lead disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

      Quality - I think not

I am not a heavy user but the charger had now 'frayed' at the mag 2 connector showing the metal grading around the cable itself. It is a poorly designed and poorly constructed piece of equipment which lets down the whole product. I just wonder what Apple were thinking of.......

Today the cable coming out of the main unit melted exposing the internal wires. In the process it melted a hole in the carpet it was sitting on. Overheating seems to be a recurrent problem with this design. Tomorrow I will see what the Mac Store has to say about this. I assume that they will replace the product for free.

      Horrible adapter.

Computer is 3 years old and I'm buying my 3rd adapter. They get extremely hot and end up fraying where the cord meets.

      Not happy

I admi I am a newer Apple user and because of all the people over the years who have sworn by Apple products I finally took the plunge and bought a MacBook Pro. I admit I do like it but am sorely disappointed in it overall. The charger is a piece of junk. The cable frayed on me in only under 2 years of owning it. I am afraid it will short out if I don't buy another but all the reviews state that the replacements fail in a short time as well and I don't have $80 dollars to dish out every year to keep replacing these things. I'll agree with others as well on the design flaw of the magsafe connector. It is too big and comes off too easily because of the leverage applied by the cable and accidentally hitting it with your hand. Drives me nuts. Apple should actually make that part of the cable detachable from the AC/DC adapter not the nice thick well built wall cord. I mean come on. Whoever designed this either wasn't thinking at all or did it on purpose in order to make Apple more money. I cannot believe that a company that makes computers and calls it's tech support Geniuses could make something so obviously poor in design. I've had numerous problems with the MacBook itself as well. I am a computer geek and as such take much better care of my stuff than most others do so I know it's not me being careless. It's plain just poor quality and better quality is the reason I switched to Apple in the first place. If there is no quality left in Apple products then I might as well go back to the cheaper PC.
