      Expensive Piece of Junk

This is the access If you'd like to spend 80 bucks on an accessory that will cause your external monitor to blink on and off all day long... look no further!!! This is the accessory you've been dreaming of. I've tried different monitors. I've tried different HDMI cables. Nothing seems to help. This thing is incredibly frustrating to use. If you do decide to call support, expect to be on the phone for an hour only to be told "try plugging it into another port" on your single port usb-c macbook...

      WARNING - Bad Hardware

Apple even lists a few drives (including their own SuperDrive, pre 2011) than don't work with this adaptor, but there are more that don't work - both for storage OR Time Machine (!). This is really bizarre since the other USB-C to USB-A adaptor WILL work, but since this adaptor doesn't supply power to your MacBook, it's not a long term solution. In the instances where the Multiport adaptor DOES work with an external hard drive, it can experience drastically reduced speeds and randomly unmount the drive. The straight USB adaptor, with the same drive, does not show these issues. I can't believe Apple put this on the market without 1) more rigorous testing and 2) with this serious an issue. Having an external hard drive work with your laptop is a pretty important requirement. Terrible, terrible piece of equipment. I was an Apple employee and have worked with Macs for decades. This issue was diagnosed with a genius at an Apple Store after we went through several Multiport and regular USB adaptors, and then followed up with additional testing at home. Apple should be ashamed.

      Can't run 1440p

I tried to connect several different 1440p monitors simply didn't work. Turning the resolution down to 1080p works but is horrible. Got a new replacement still I tried to connect several different 1440p monitors simply didn't work. Turning the resolution down to 1080p works but is horrible. Got a new replacement still didn't work. Ended up getting an equivalent dongle from Satechi which just works no problems.

      Suddenly doesn't work anymore

But after a few months when I had a really important presentation, the HDMI port on the adapter just didn't work anymore. When it was connect to the projector, the projector started to glitch and show nothing. It was really embarrassing at that moment that I needed to borrow another adapter from other to finish my presentation. Because I don't really use it that much, I'm pretty sure until that point I only use the adapter for probably less than twenty times. After that, the USB port on the adapter starts to fail too. My Mac often shows the message "disk not ejected properly" when I connect my thumb drive with the adapter. Apple is really overcharging this adapter, because it is not even stable to use.

      Don't Buy, Doesn't Work

I bought this because I use a secondary monitor at work. Every single time I wake up my laptop in the morning to start working, this adapter does not recognize I bought this because I use a secondary monitor at work. Every single time I wake up my laptop in the morning to start working, this adapter does not recognize my secondary monitor that is plugged into it. I have to manually disconnect and reconnect the HDMI port from the adapter to get it to recognize my monitor. EPIC FAIL Apple. Let me save you some time, anguish, and money and tell you to go buy the Mokin 6 in 1 USB C to HDMI Adapter from Amazon instead. Here's the title of the product on Amazon if you're smarter than me: "USB C HDMI Adapter for MacBook Pro 2018/2017/2016, 6 in 1 USB-C to HDMI Output, Sd+Microsd Card Reader and 2-Ports USB 3.0 with USB-C Power Pass-Through Port (USB-C to 2USB+SD/TF+HDMI+PD)".
