Will this LG UltraFine 4k Display power the new 16 inch MacBook Pro?

  • Not always... once your GPU and cooling fan kick in, the 85W just won’t suffice and your battery will slowly drain. I’m facing that problem now and Apple suggests I use the supplied brick charger to power up my 16” MBP. That eats up an extra thunderbolt port on my Mac...

  • In general day to day laptop usage, yes. It charges the 16-inch just fine. But as others have said, intensive tasks might stop charging or draining the battery even when plugged into the monitor. And I'm still not clear on whether the 16-inch MacBook Pro performs at its best when running on 85W.

  • It says under the tech specs that for best performance the 96w adapter should be used. However that would mean using two cables. This monitor only supports 85w passthrough. The Pro Display XDR has 96w passthrough.
