Will this work with a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) if I use a Thunderbolt 3 —> USB 2 adapter?

  • No, this needs Thunderbolt 3 and the data speed it offers to shuttle all the required information to and from the device and the computer. TB2 is half as fast as TB3, and USB 2.0 is roughly 80 times slower than TB3.

  • Hi Jacob. No, this device requires a Thunderbolt 3 controller which the 2015 models do not have. The adapter you mention is a USB-C to USB 2 adapter and, although the interlace is similar, the capability is only of a USB 2 port.

  • No. It's not on the compatibility list. Apple only supports eGPUs on Macs with a native Thunderbolt 3 port.

  • No you need a TB port at the connecting end into the MAC. I am using this on a 2011 Mac mini with the Apple TB3 - TB2 convertor. It is only running at TB1 speeds but I now have 3 screens on my MAC mini and am seeing a performance increase when processing photos. A costly solution but still cheaper than replacing my mac mini.
