    Poor quality, frays easily

    • Written by Kelli F from Salt Lake City

I keep having to replace these cables. They're expensive but badly made. Normally I love Apple products.

No Strain Relief - Rips Apart

    • Written by Cody D from Midland

It is 2019... the Apple iPhone has been out for 12 years and Apple still has yet to include strain relief on their OEM chargers. The OEM cables are one of the only ones that don’t short out after 2 weeks of use, however it’s inevitable that you’ll have to replace it every 6-8 months anyways. The Apple OEM chargers are designed specifically to keep you purchasing more. Great sales technique Apple. The outer coating around the wires split towards the end of the lightning port side of the cable, leaving exposed wires. If you’re going to sell absolute trash, at least don’t charge us $30 for it.

    Deteriorated

    • Written by Nidia G from Fauetteville

Not sure why, but after a short time the cord started to deteriorate. The rubber keeps pealing off bit by bit. Didn’t think a $30 cord would do this.

    Wires pop out of casing

    • Written by Rebecca S from DALLAS

I’ve had my iPad Pro for a year and a half and have had to buy 5 new charging cables. Each time, the casing around the cable cracks and eventually the wires pop out. I try fixing it with electrical tape but that only lasts so long before the cable stops charging. Really bad design. I’m disappointed to say the least.

    Poor Quality

    • Written by Gail L from Powhatan

I was about to order my third or fourth cord within 5 years of owning my IPad , but decided to look at the reviews before purchasing the cord again. Should have done this awhile back and I would have saved some money. The cord is not strong enough (flexible) to last. Apple is not being fair to its customers. I am sure they know the quality is poor, but they haven’t done anything to correct the problem . Check Amazon for a better cord.

    better off buying from CVS

    • Written by Shanna W from Methuen

You might think that spending the additional money and buying direct from the apple store would get you a better cable but you would be wrong. I bought this cord 15 months ago and it no longer charges my iphone. there are no physical problems with the cord or fraying wires, just straight up doesn't work. of course, warranty is only good for 12 months. classic apple stuff.

Shocking Quality and Design of cables

    • Written by Martin L from Paisley

I am an Apple product lover. However, since day one back in 1988 when I first bought an Apple Classic Computer, Apple have supplied cables and other accessories that change from one computer to the next, they change connections like I change my underwear, and no, I don't change my underwear on an annual basis wether I need to or not, Every new product has a new design which is worse than the last. I agree with every complaint about the new materials in the cables to I phones, I pads and laptops, I have replaced 4 cables in nine months on all devices. They should be ashamed at the quality and longevity of these items and you can't even use an old cable from a previous machine. I have spent many thousands of pounds on Apple products so, APPLE, stop all this built in obsolescence and get it right, other manufactures can supply much better cable for half the price.

Why do i have to keep buying these?

    • Written by Christine M from New Rochelle

Kept my cable in perfect condition. Didn't even go out that much with it, just left it at home most days. One day, wanted charge through my macbook, wasn't working, then tried using the adapter, wasn't working either. At that moment I knew it stopped working completely. This is not worth anything if there's no longevity

I've lost track of how many of these I've bought because the same failure

    • Written by DAVID B from Campbell

It's always the same failure: the cable where it connects to the lightning connector that connects to my device becomes frayed and the internal wires are exposed and it fails to work. Looking at the other reviews, it's clear that Apple does not listen to the feedback of its customers. Enjoy it while it lasts Apple because it's this type of behavior that makes customers look at other options rather than repeatedly return to failure.

    Garbage—Surprisingly bad

    • Written by Tyler M from Lancaster

Buy one of these overpriced, short pieces of wire and they'll last about a year before breaking. I had more success with the old iPod connector and have similar success with the cheap colored Chinese knockoffs for $3.99 from CVS/Walgreens. I must be on my 5th one by now and I have an iPhone 5s. I'm not sure how they are so bad I mean they'll stop working without any obvious physical defects in the cable insulation. My current cable will charge with the wall charger but won't transfer data when connected to a computer, and this is a feature that I currently need...

    Embarrassment for Apple

    • Written by Sebastian K from New York

The inability to charge my iphone and ipad easily is clearly the number one reason I would switch all my devices to another company.

I'm not sure why they are building a university if they can't improve the number weakness of their product after so many years.

Does nobody at Apple care that you have a 1.5 rating on your products?

Hello, is there anybody out there?!? Can the NYT please write an article about this?

Shame on your for treating your customers so poorly.

    • Written by Vici B from GREENVILLE

Why are your phones so great, but your charging cables are so, so bad and outrageously priced? They last about two months...that’s it...for $30. Ridiculous.

    Poor, poor quality

    • Written by Javier S from Kingwood

Buying yet another cable! I’ve tried both the 1m and the 2m length with the same result: frayed and damaged! I’ve even tried the cheap knock off, but of course, apple has a way recognizing its not OEM and don’t always work. If you’re going to charge 5x the knock off price, at least make them last!!

    Do NOT recommend buying

    • Written by Olivia F from Westerville

I bought this charger on February 25, 2019 at the Apply store and by April 3rd the cord had split and wires started showing through. This cord stays plugged in by my bed, does not move ever and my phone gets plugged in and put on a nightstand. There is nothing that could have caused this to happen besides a poorly made product. For the price of this charger I would expect it to last well over a month and a few days. I am highly disappoint and will be sticking to my amazon chargers that are $11 and last me up to a year with multiple in a pack. Horrible mistake by thinking this would last me years because it’s from apple and “you get what you pay for”

    Shocking

    • Written by Stuart W from Aberdeen

The rubber sleeve bunches up at the end of the cable and splits leaving exposed wires. Better off just buying a normal extension cable and using the short cable you get with the device if that hasn’t already broken.

    Done with Apple charge cords

    • Written by Rachel M from Gales Ferry

I have not had an Apple charging cord last more than 3 months. They either bend and break at the base or they just plain quit working. I have better luck with much less expensive off brands. I will not be purchasing Apple charging cords anymore until the make some improvements.
