My first negative review of an apple product. Just bought a second iPad Pro. I like mine so much I got one for my son to start high school. It is fantastic, however we can't get a lighting cord in my house to charge it!!! Everyone knows lightning cables are horrendous. Nothing is better than finding a iPad you left charging for hours completely out of battery... The argument made for this is the cord doesn't last forever ... But this cord is two weeks old my other one is 9 months old. So really apple? This is basic stuff the product has to change... The first generation worked better perhaps these miniscule male ends just are not holding up. This is a case where bigger is better. Maybe you are getting rid of it altogether... In the meantime do the right thing 29 dollars for a cord that is not going to last a few months is an outrage. Admit the thing is awful and provide them at cost... Or a a little more like 50 cents.

    High prices.

    • Written by Abdallah A from Racine

I don't know why people keep saying it's a bad charger, it is not! If you take care of it, it will serve for years! I had my original iPhone charger for 2 years now when I got the iPhone 6, and it still in a perfect condition. People just need to start plugging and unplugging their phones from the solid parts not the wire it self. The only thing I would complain about is the price.
I lost my iPhone charger and went today to get a new one, amazing people great customer service but high prices, I paid $50 for a charger. And other chargers brands would ruin your phone and give you a wrong percentage of your battery life.

Piece of junk, breaks and flays easily

    • Written by Stephanie K from Kihei

This is a terribly fragile cord , it is not made to last despite numerous bad reviews , so clearly Apple is choosing not to fix the problem but to keep selling garbage for high prices. Apple should reward customers for buying the real Apple product and not a generic knock off by providing a high quality product with longevity , but thus far it has not . Very disappointing .

    Save your money

    • Written by George C from Port Orchard

The awful truth is that the Apple supplied lightning to USB cable that come with your new Apple device probably won't last through your warranty period and Apple wont replace the defective cord. If you are like me i use my iPad Pro to stream television and movies and with the screen brightness set as low as is possible (and still be watchable) the iPad's battery drains pretty fast. My solution is to keep the device connected to my 25 watt Apple charger, keeping at 100% charge most of the time. That makes for other issues, but i won't go into them now. The constant bending of the charger cord at The lightening end makes it fail in short order. I have seen plenty of cords with a soft, tapered plastic sleeve at a point where that cable breaks most often. That design spreads out the bend over a much larger area than the current cord to hard plug design that is used by Apple today. Even the non-Apple cords have the same issue. I make the cord last longer by wrapping the first couple of inches in electrical tape but that just delays the failure. My suggestion is that users buy the cheapest cord available, do the electrical tape thing and be prepared to throw them away as they fail. This goes for all cord lengths and manufacturers.

Review for Lightning to USB Cable 2m...

    • Written by Kevin D from Lowell

This is the review for the Lightning to USB Cable 2m. I bought mine at the Apple Store. Packaging is at a five star rating. Came in a small package. The bag to put the USB cable in it was very well constructed also. The actual cable used to charge my phone is great! I had for it for around two months now and hasn't broken down at all. Even the cable that I had when I first got the phone still works, I just misplaced it. Overall, for a 2m long Apple official charger. It works really well. No complaints whatsoever.

    Lighting Cable

    • Written by Fay C from Mooresville

It’s your newer cables that are made with inferior product coating. Your 1st and 2nd generation iPad charger cords were very durable. I still have some of those. The cords got flimsy with the iPad Air and beyond. That is probably where you should start if you wanted to make an improvement on the cable.

    Defective Design

    • Written by Pc M from Syracuse

I love Apple products but can't believe that it wouldn't insist upon good quality charging cords, which are critically necessary to use its products. Within 4 months after purchasing my iPhone 6 Plus, the charging cable became unusable and I've had to replace it at least 15 times thereafter. These cords and power plugs are very expensive. In effort to save money, I then started using non-Apple charging cords/power plugs, but it seems that Apple has coded its devices to phone home so as to detect use of non-Apple accessories and render them useless, even if they were advertised as being Apple-certified. It's a wonder that a class action hasn't been commenced to seek damages for losses associated with these defective cords.

Please - if Apple cannot provide quality charging accessories, at least allow us to mitigate our losses and purchase off-market accessories that last as long as (and many times longer than) those provided by Apple? We use our phones for business and are at our wits end when charging codes fail to work. Our son no longer uses an iPhone, and it's likely others have ceased purchasing these phones for this reason among others. Please remedy this obviously defective design.

Only an Apple cable works best!

    • Written by Aaron S from Farmington

Love Apple products and if you're going to need to charge something, you should only use an Apple brand charger. I don't get all the complainers on here saying they have to keep buying month after month when I had the same cable last me three years. Keep in mind nothing lasts forever and you're going to have to replace things eventually so when you do you're going to need to spend money on a good cable. Apple cables are really good!

The life of these cables is less than 1 year

    • Written by Anne T from Colorado Springs

Cord does not hold up to light use.
    Lightening end wears down.
The cord frays and the cable protected wire breaks.
    Definitely an expendable requiring repurchase.

Apple, you seriously need to get it together. I've only had my iPhone 6 plus for a little over a year. My original charger stopped working out of the blue a few months back, and I've constantly had to spend money on new cables because not even the off brand ones last long. This is going to be my fourth in less than 4 months. I've had it with your cheap made yet overly priced chargers. Its ridiculous how much these phones cost and you all can't even give us quality chargers.

Get it together Apple, or else I will gladly switch back to android and get a Samsung Galaxy. At least they listen to their consumers and make durable, well lasting accessories .

I cannot even keep track of how many of these I have had to buy. The only pro about this specific cord is the length. Otherwise, it breaks just as often as all the other chargers Apple makes. Apple.... I beg you.... when you release the 8.... LISTEN TO US AND MAKE A BETTER CHARGER! Quit updating stuff we do not care about and LISTEN TO THE CONSUMER!

3rd charger I've had now. These are so poorly made it's unbelievable. Not the standard you used to expect from Apple but this seems to be the way these days. Plus the price has increased AGAIN. I used to think I'd always be an Apple user, but it's all these little things that make me think they're getting a bit too big for their boots.

    Poor quality

    • Written by ELIAS S from Richmond

I have now bought multiple of these cables (2m and 1m lengths). They are so expensive for such cheap quality. They keep fraying near the lightening connector, exposing the wire. Apple won't even replace these under warranty. Staff at Apple Store act surprised that this issue ever happens, and put it down to improper use (i.e. using iPhone and iPad while charging). Yet there are so many reviews that point out how flawed and faulty these cables are. Disappointed that this quality issue and the Apple staff reaction is such a let down to Apple's reputation.

    It works...

    • Written by Daniel O from Yuma

As an Apple consumer since 1983, I'm accustomed to paying a premium for Apple products whether I like it or not. I've tried aftermarket cables for Apple products and found them to be less reliable than the Apple brand. Granted, the Apple cables themselves don't seem to last as long as they should but until Apple goes completely wireless for charging, there isn't much else we can do.
